Name (of creature): Scorpiornis Height: 5 feet Length: 10 feet Weight: 50 kilograms Number in pack: 3 Base DNA: Southern ground hornbill, sinraptor, rahonavis, deathstalker scorpion, imperial scorpion, spinner dolphin, achillobator, Andean condor Abilities: Flight, venom, speed, sonar, pinching, stinging, stabbing Weaknesses: Hollow and fragile bones, terrible swimmers, clumsy fliers, they have trouble taking off from the ground Defences: Venom, flight, speed, pinching, stinging Special Attributes: Venom, flight, sonar Description: A southern ground hornbill with a deathstalker scorpion tail, imperial scorpion pincers, dromeosaur feet, a ground hornbill beak filled with dromeosaur teeth and sinraptor crests above its eyes. They are black with white wingtips, red throat pouches and yellow-brown shins, feet, tails and pincers. Males are larger than females. Picture LOGI Info: Scorpiornis live in grassland and savannah areas. They are very social, living in large groups of up to twenty members. These groups consist of a small number of alpha males leading larger numbers of females. In a Scorpiornis pack there is one male for every five females. If a male Scorpiornis has too many females to look after properly, he will invite a younger male into his pack to help with leadership. Scorpiornis mate for life. Once the alpha male has chosen a mate, she will become the alpha female, and automatically become the highest ranking female in the pecking order. A female Scorpiornis can also become quite high in the pecking order by becoming the mate of one of the assistant leader males. Scorpiornis are omnivorous. They eat a variety of seeds, grasses, shrubs and leaves, as well as small animals such as insects, lizards, rodents and fish, but in groups they can take on larger prey. When fighting an animal bigger than themselves, the Scorpiornis will attack by jumping on it and slashing it to death with their talons and pincers, as well as stabbing it with their beaks and tails. Their stingers contain a neurotoxin that paralyses stung animals. Small animals can be paralysed completely by just one sting, but to paralyse large animals the Scorpiornis will have to sting several times. They can also create a pulse of sonar by inflating their throat pouches, which can stun small animals and disorientate larger ones. Due to being fairly large, Scorpiornis have trouble taking off from the ground, and are rather clumsy flyers. However, they are excellent gliders, able to glide for hours at a time. Scorpiornis can live for up to sixty years. The females lay a clutch of two to seven eggs every second year. They make large nests on the ground. When the young hatch they are blind and naked, with yellow throat pouches. They soon grow a fluffy coat of down and open their eyes. They reach maturity at five years of age, at which point their throat pouches will turn red like the adults. Upon reaching maturity, the juveniles can decide to either stay with their own pack, leave to join another pack, or start a pack of their own. To prevent inbreeding, most Scorpiornis juveniles will leave their own pack. Other: Even though they live in quite large groups in the wild, Scorpiornis are restricted to packs of three (one male and two females) in the Battledome because of their size. -------------------- |
