Name: Sawesome (Saw + Awesome)

Height: 16 feet

Length: 30 feet

Weight: 8 metric tons

Base DNA: E. coli, Inostrancevia, Mantis, Scutosaurus, Asian Elephant, Saltwater Crocodile, Diamondback Rattlesnake, Gray Owl, Pangolin

Abilities: Great hearing and infrared sensitivity, dual, rotating, serrated saws on its head, armor plates on arms are sharpened at ends and can be used as a weapon, tail is powerful enough to break bones, tusks, trunk can also be used as a weapon.

Weaknesses: They move slowly over rough terrain, no sense of eyesight, no sense of smell.

Defenses: The skin covering all of its body is covered in crocodilian armor, and underneath this skin is the chainmail-like armor from the Scutosaurus. Its forearms (ulna and humerus) are connected to a very strong bony plate that can be used to shield it from incoming attacks. The inward-facing side of its trunk is covered in pangolin armor to protect it from the saws.

Special Attributes: The dual rotating saws in its mouth took a bit of time and effort to work out. The saws themselves sit on an axle of sorts, and when the Sawesome reaches maturity the saw detaches from any connection to the rest of the body. As well, the axle is covered in articular cartilage and also secretes synovial fluid, which acts as a lubricant and reduces friction.
A pair of large sacs sit behind the earholes of the Sawesome, these sacs contain compressed CO2, which is produced in the process of cellular respiration, as is typical.
When the Sawesome wants to spin the saw, it releases an amount of CO2 from the sacks. This gas shoots out of tubes attached to the sacks and is blown against thin plates that act like the paddles or buckets on a water wheel. This turns the saw, and it can turn very quickly due to how fast the CO2 shoots out of the sacks.

The plates on its front arms are also used in locomotion. They are very smooth on the outside and can be put horizontal to the ground to act as a sled for the large front part of the Sawesome, which is pushed by its short but strong back legs.

Description: The Sawesome is very strangely built, its front half is large and muscled, held up by its massive plate-bearing arms. These arms have no hands, and are used primarily for movement, defense, and fighting, rather than for grasping things. Their bodies taper off towards the back, and their hind legs are short, though powerful. Its tail is basically that of a crocodile. Its neck is somewhat long and is also pretty flexible, allowing for greater reach of the saws.
The head of the Sawesome is curved to fit around the top half of the saws, with the trunk able to cover the bottom half if needed. This trunk is also what the Sawesome uses to grab things and shove cut up bits of other animals into its mouth. The saw takes up much of the head, and has replaced where the eyes would be.

LOGI Info: Sawesomes travel in packs across sandy deserts and flat grasslands where their plate-arms can be used easily. The social hierarchy in one of these packs is actually very complex, though the strongest male almost always leads the others. Competition for placement in this hierarchy can be fierce and battles with Sawesomes boxing with the plates on their arms aren’t uncommon. The whole pack cares for the young, which learn to hunt and travel soon after being born. Hunting is coordinated by the whole pack using some rudimentary strategy. They have the intelligence of any average predator.

Other: Wooo first creature since April 2009, and it's free!

The *censored* shell, dude? What the *censored* *censored* shell?

I always did wonder how/if it would be possible to make a saw wielding creature. Apparently, this is how and yes it is.

Or what goes through Clocky's, for that matter, given Carnalug.
Until, that is, you realize he got the general idea for the premise from me...

hate to burst your bubble, but biological rotation is impossible.

Care to explain? Maybe you mean, "Has not been exhibited in eukaryotic organisms?"

I'm pretty sure I mentioned where it gets the mechanics from in Special Attributes. Please elaborate though.

And this critter is awesome. God, I've always wanted a living buzzsaw to be created.

I don't know much about microscopic life, but macroscopic life, being made of multiple cells (usually) cannot grow part of something that isn't attached... You can't tell your severed arm to move, its the same thing. If it IS attached, its impossible for it to move continuously in one direction forever without tearing the tissue.

If however, it grows the saw and it breaks off when its fully grown so that it CAN rotate freely, it will never be able to repair damage done to the saw, or for that matter, move the saw without an outside force doing so, seeing as its not attached to the animal.

Honestly, I didn't really figure it'd be repairable anyway, but I'm no expert on cell biology either, so yeah let's figure it would have to break off after being fully grown. After that though, I think it would still be possible to take the mechanisms used to make the flagella rotate on a larger scale.

However if not, maybe a system using blood or something in the way water is used in a water wheel. Like, a hatch could be opened using a muscle, blood flows into a pathway and causes the thing to move

Well, this thing is pretty sawesome. Though I do have to agree with Flish here. It couldn't be able to rotate it's saw forever, unless it's not attached to it's body. I say you should go with the backup plan.
