Suit yourself, but you'd really be better off getting one good low-rank set and saving your zenny for high-rank sets later. Low-rank armors only give you a couple skills anyway, and other than that the only differences (aside from visual appearance) are elemental resistances (which you can cover as needed with canteen meals) and their actual defense values (which for the most part aren't too different between armors of similar rarity). Once you get to high-rank you will want to have multiple armor sets likely as not, but low-rank caravan is easy enough to get by with just one good set. Tetsucabra's a good and particularly recommended set, and I can confirm that it got at least me through low-rank smoothly.

You know, I have a delightful name for Khezu, but it might not be appropriate to post where AR can see. :P
The most annoying thing about Khezu is what I refer to as their "Shock Trap" move. If you've fought one, you know what that is. I used a Glaive through low-rank caravan, and you don't want to know the number of times I'd be vaulting at them mid-air and see that blue hue start... I have a GS set that kills 'em pretty nicely these days, though, even if I still need to be careful of that move.

I'm guessing you probably haven't got to Garuga yet, so I feel I must advise you use a bit more caution than I may have previously suggested. I need a couple parts off them for an upgrade it turned out, and it turns out that they can kick my rear pretty hard at G-rank. Picture if you will a Rathian that uses screeches and Kut-ku pecks in addition to its regular moves, and is also running on engergizer batteries. They are fast, relentless, and hit like a truck. I remember them being a challenge, but no more so than any other monster. I suspect its largely its G-rank buffs that are giving me trouble and that it's low/high-rank states shouldn't be as bad (relatively speaking), but do use caution and stay light on your feet.

If their electric moves were slowed down by half a second I would probably have no problem at all with them. As is I had to forge a full set of Gypceros armor and I still got my arse handed to me for the most part. I used to think they were cool and interesting but I never want to see one again, now.

Yeah I did some digging on the internet, including finding a video of a very good hunter (solo'd a pair of lvl140 Golden Rajang) fight lvl140 Garuga for the first time with his probably equally good from what I've seen friends. Totally demolished.

It was at high-rank, mind you, but I think I did exactly the same thing and made a Gypceros set for it too.
Most of it's attacks aren't too hard to dodge once you get used to them, it's just that one shock attack that as I said you really need to be careful of. You want to use hit-and-run attacks and not get too over-zealous in your attacks. The only time you should go all-out on it is if you have it knocked down. Alternatively you could just gun it and avoid having to get close to it altogether.

I can believe that. Mine's only just over lv100 right now and I did finally manage to take it down last night. I used a Demondrug and Armorskin that lasted until the once I got carted around 30 minutes in, I used Flash Bombs (which seem to have a fairly long-lasting effect on Garuga) and I sleep-bombed it. Took me about 45 minutes to kill it, and I still didn't even get a one of the part I needed. What I've learned, in a nutshell, is that you should NOT try to attack it in its rage mode (which it enters quite often). That's when it gets so fast and it's attacks are relentless and without break. When it's spinning/swinging it's tail you won't want to attack (unless you're gunning), but it gives you a chance to either sheath your weapon or use an item if you need it while it's locked into the move. The only chance to attack it is after it uses the "double peck" move where it hammers its beak into the ground once of its left and then on its right. There's a very brief opening after it does that for you to get a couple hits in, but you need to be ready to move again right away. Out of rage mode it's slow enough that you don't have to constantly dodge and can get some attacks in, so it's business as usual. If it gets exhausted that is your best opportunity to really go to town on it short of topples, but make it count because it won't take too many hits to send it back into rage.

I learned yesterday that if you flash bomb most flying wyverns (which I am assuming includes Garuga) while they take off but before they leave the area, they'll get stunned and crash to the ground, so when I do fight them that should come in handy. Also, the Sonic Waves song w/ the HH (3 yellow notes) is great for stopping Kut-Ku in its tracks so I would imagine much the same applies to Garuga.

I'm on the Gore fight now, the actual Urgent mission where I'm supposed to kill it. By which I mean I've already left for it, I just haven't gotten a chance to play it and my DS has been shut since then :I
I will hopefully return from school today with SOMETHING made out of larval Elder Dragon. I don't use Dual Blades but damned if those ones don't look rad

Yep, if it has eyes and flies, flash bombs are a good thing. They're especially nice against Rathalos since it spends so much time in the air, though they don't actually daze it for too long, and that time only gets shorter each time you do it. I don't know how reliably you'd be able to knock a Garuga out of the air, though. Any time it's in the air except when fleeing an area it's going to be attacking and you'll likely want to be dodging. I think for hitting it in the air the best opportunity is indeed when it's fleeing, but you'd really need to be in the right place at the right time. As it is you'll need to focus on not getting carted, you can't really risk distracting yourself watching for that perfect shot on top of that. Besides, you can only carry five flash bombs with you, unless you pick any EZ ones up somewhere. Personally, I think you're better off making five "safe" throws that get it on the ground than gambling that you'll get it in the air. Not unless you've got a team of hunters to back you up/carry more flash bombs. The odds of one person out of four being in the raight spot to knock it down is also much greater than the odds of one person by themself.

As for Sonic Waves I'd say try it, but don't count on it. I've gotten a few EZ sonic bombs a couple times and have yet to see them have any effect.

My tips for Gore if you haven't beat it by the time you see this;
-Watch out for the explosions.
-It's weak to Fire and Water.
-The (relatively) safest spot to attack is from the back half of it, and in particular, its crotch.
-Don't mount it unless it's raging, because...
-When it's in rage mode you want to hit the head/horns/antennae; you can knock it out of rage that way. That said, don't be suicidal about it; mount it and topple it to get free and safe shots at it.
-If the Frenzy is proving a trouble, there are a couple skills that can help. Frenzy Res, but you won't have good if any access to it yet. The other is the 15 point Biology skill; in addition to dung bomb buffs and immunity to Stench and Blastblight, the 15 point skill also boosts frenzy resistance (though unlike Frenzy Res it isn't full immunity to my knowledge). You can get it on Gore's armor, but since that's what you're fighting, the other option is Congalala. I'm not sure off-hand if it reaches 15 points without decorations, though.
-A FAR more easily available counter however is Nullberries. They aren't a cure, but they'll reduce the progress of your frenzy bar and thus give you more time to fight it off.

And yes, Gores' DBs are pretty awesome-looking. You might want to make something you know how to use though since The Wheel is weak to dragon. I didn't, mind you, but I also carted twice in that fight. Which was kind-of funny, because it only took a few more hits to take down after that second cart.

EDIT: Took it down in 37 minutes this time with a Kut-ku running about. I was able to find a few more (situational) openings to attack even during the rage mode now that I'm a bit more familiar with its timing and judging what I can get away with safely. I did cart once, due to not quite making a dodge in time. :fistshake: I also got a few EZ flash bombs so I tried taking It out of the air. I sadly must report that I had no luck. Not to say it isn't possible but the window of time to pull it off is very small.

EDIT2: Around 30 minutes, 1 cart, no sleep-bombing (it never gave me a chance to), and the Kut-ku was frenzied this time. And I got all the parts I needed! AND I flash bombed it out of the air but it was by pure chance; it had ran to a corner, and my Palicoes and I were all behind it so I knew it would turn around and look roughly my way. I threw the flash bomb, it turned, and then it started to fly at one of my palicoes as the bomb went off. I'm not sure if I've ever gotten quite that lucky using a flash bomb before. I don't think there's any way I could have got it like that if I hadn't already thrown the bomb before it took off. Very very lucky.

Well if it makes you feel any better, I'm getting my rear kicked by a Seltas Queen capture quest. It's one of those times when I really wish I had actual hunters who knew how to dodge backing me up to distract it instead of just palicoes that get steamrolled and leave me on my own.

If it helps any, I find that the Sunken Hollow (at lr) is usually the best spot for farming iron. I was looking for Aquaglow jewels, but I also picked up about 8 or 9 ores and a few stones (among other things) during a single trip yesterday. Sap Plants you can farm through the Wycoon.

I caught it!... but then I triple carted when I tried getting that last ripclaw i needed, and was so done that I decided to just make the Glaive instead and be done with it. It's pretty rad, but now the only new quests I have left involve Gravios.... :fistshake:

Welcome, then, to Club I-Hate-Gravios!

A word of advice, use Water damage. Gravios as I've heard -and as my experience suggests is very true- takes very little "raw" damage, and most of what you're going to be dealing to it is elemental damage. As for weapon type, Glaive or Bow. The Glaive gives you a pseudo-ranged attack in the kinsect, can cut the tail, and most important of all in the king of mounting. Repeatedly mounting a Gravios you can break it's back, which causes the exhaust from it lasers to come out of its back rather than down around its feet. Once the back is broken, then, like with Basarios, mounts will flip it on its back and have you stab at its chest, which when broken, is a weak point. The Bows' good because it's a ranged weapon and has elemental damage unlike Bowguns that would have to use Water shots that would eventually run out.

Today, I'm going to be takin' these four fine folks into the biggest, meanest dungeon in the Forgotten Realms, and I don't know if they're gonna survive.
...But I'm cool with that.
