Well, you guys have probably all heard of the Triassic Kraken before. You know, Shonisaurus vertebra arranged in a Squid sucker like pattern obviously means there was a 100 foot, Ictyosaur killing Kraken. *Sarcasm*

Well, prepare to be shocked.

An intelligent ancient squid that rearranged the backbones of its prey into art? Fossil experts call it a fable, but one expert says to believe it.

The "kraken" has resurfaced at a scientific meeting, and is certain to stir controversy once more.

"The Kraken's Back" is the title of the talk presented Wednesday at the annual Geological Society of America (GSA) meeting in Denver by paleontologist Mark McMenamin of Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts.

"I can say we have found the tip of the beak of the Triassic kraken," says McMenamin. His proof? A fossilized squid's "pen"—a chitinous paddle found inside squid mantles—that dates to about 218 million years ago.

Although the newfound fossilized pen, which McMenamin presented at his talk, is only a few inches long and incomplete, the paleontologist estimates that the ancient squid it belonged to was 50 to 100 feet (16 to 30 meters) long. At the meeting he called it "schoolbus-sized." Modern giant squids may grow to about 40 feet (12 meters) long.

Yeah. That happened. And about the whole "self portrait" thingy.

We as a human race have become so obsessed with taking pictures of ourselves that the word 'selfies' was actually added to the dictionary last year - nicely done, American people.  But we're not alone.  We're not the only living things that like to look at ourselves.  As it turns out, a newly discovered species of spider is pretty into the whole selfies thing too.

Remember those bizarre web towers that we told you about last month?  Well the same guy who discovered them, Phil Torres, has just discovered a brand new species of spider in Peru - one that uses twigs, leaves, and dead insect bodies to actually form crude sculptures of itself.  What's even more interesting is that another entirely different species of spider was also discovered in the Philippines, and it too collects together jungle trash to outfit its web with strange statues of itself.

As we spotted over on io9, scientists are wondering if the sculptures are perhaps decoys built to either lure in prey or defend territory, and they believe that many other species of spiders may have evolved to carry out the same processes.  “I don’t think it’s surprising that this happening,” says entomologist Larry Reeves. “I think that no one’s noticed in the past is surprising.”

Not a Squid, but it's the same basic concept.

So yeah. My mind = blown.

Now I expect somebody to make this darn thing on CB, dagnabbit!

Today, I'm going to be takin' these four fine folks into the biggest, meanest dungeon in the Forgotten Realms, and I don't know if they're gonna survive.
...But I'm cool with that.

A scientific one, not yet. But everyone calls it Triassic Kraken.

While this sounds awesome, I'm going to stay skeptical considering from what you showed us, all the evidence was pen and spiders getting fancy. Plus, anything that is a threat to my precious balloon Ichthyosaurs must be the evilest beast ever. :fistshake:
