Name: Dasospis

Height: 25 feet (40 feet including back growths)
Length: 70 feet

Weight: 65 tons

Base DNA: Ankylosaurus magniventris, Triceratops horridus, mole cricket, white rhinoceros, burrowing insect (Primeval), pedunculate oak, coca, brightleaf tobacco, Robusta coffee, Saccharum barberi, Camellia sinensis, wych elm, aspen, Elysia viridis, Codium fragile, milkweed, giant barrel sponge, banded archerfish, dromedary

Abilities: Digging

Weaknesses: Slow, can’t survive without Microkentreos, usually has dull senses and slow reactions, skin on neck and throat is soft, vulnerable to fire, survival chemical won’t have any effect if injected while rage chemical is active

Defenses: Size, armour, spikes, tail club, horns, frill, toxin in back growths, Microkentreos

Special Attributes: Produces a chemical in its back growths that the Microkentreos can’t survive without, photosynthesis

Description: A gigantic, heavily armoured mole cricket with an elongated thorax, covered by an enormous carapace. The carapace is bowl shaped, with a rim around its edge. In its center, there is a hump that reaches up to about the same height as the rim. This hump is soft and spongy, with small holes all over it. Short, thick, tree-like structures, about 15 feet tall, grow out of the carapace, along with shrub and reed-like structures. Although they may look like separate organisms, they are actually part of the Dasospis’s body. They carapace is filled with a soft, spongy substance that surrounds the trunks of the “plants”, helping to anchor them.
The Dasospis has a mole cricket-like head, with rhinoceros horns, huge eyes, short, thick antennae, small ears and a Triceratops frill. Its neck is soft and slightly hairy. It has six massive, spiny, armoured legs, with huge, serrated claws. Its front legs have the claws and spines as part of the shape of the legs, while the other four legs have the spines and claws growing out of them. The front legs are mainly used for digging, and the other four legs are mostly used for walking. It has a short Ankylosaurus tail. Most of its body is dark brown in colour, and it has black speckles on its legs and thorax and a dark green frill and tail.

LOGI Info: Dasospis are large, peaceful herbivores that live in northern deciduous forests. They spend most of their live wandering from tree to tree, browsing from the low branches. If they need to reach higher up branches, they simply use their horns or front legs to snap the tree’s trunk or knock it over. Because they are so large, they have to eat a lot every day to sustain themselves. If they cannot find food, they use the structures on their backs to photosynthesize, gaining energy from the sun until they find more food. It sends water up to its hump and sprays it out to keep its growths moist, as they photosynthesize best when they are slightly moist.
In the winter, Dasospis dig a long, narrow hole in the ground, lie down in it, and fall into a dormant, hibernating state. When a Dasospis hibernates, its symbiotic partner, the Microkentreos, burrows into the soft, spongy substance on its back and hibernates at well. During this time, the Dasospis tend to cover their heads and tails with soil, so only their carapace and its growths remain above ground. These continue photosynthesizing as the Dasospis sleeps, providing it with enough energy to survive without eating for the whole winter. The hibernation usually lasts about three or four months, starting in late November and ending in early March.
During hibernation, seeds will often find their way onto a Dasospis’s back, and once their, they can take root in the soft, nutritious material that covers its carapace, and grow into plants. The Microkentreos usually remove these plants, as they are seen as invaders, but if a plant is deemed to be harmless or beneficial, the Microkentreos allow it to grow there, fed and watered by the Dasospis. Because of this, Dasospis often have real plants as well as their back growths sprouting from their carapaces. The Microkentreos prune these so that they don’t get too large and heavy for the Dasospis to carry.
If a Dasospis is attacked, it can usually fend off it aggressor due to its large size, armour, horns, claws and tail club. However, if it is a particularly large or dangerous creature, the Microkentreos will assist its host by injecting it with a chemical that sends it into a rage, turning the normally peaceful herbivore into an overwhelmingly powerful destructive force.

Name: Microkentreos

Height: 2 feet
Length: 5 feet

Weight: 40 kilograms

Base DNA: Dormouse, Arizona bark scorpion, field cricket, common pipistrelle, monarch butterfly, emperor dragonfly, osprey, greater wax moth, bloodhound

Abilities: Climbing, stinging

Weaknesses: Soft exoskeleton, slow on the ground, eyes and ears are easily damaged, can’t survive for long without Dasospis

Defenses: Stinging, slashing, exoskeleton

Special Attributes: Microkentreos feeds exclusively on the plants growing from Dasospis’s back. These plants are toxic, and after eating them, the Microkentreos absorbs the toxins into its body. Inside its body, they are mixed with other chemicals and modified to have different effects, and are then stored in its tail. The tail has two separate glands, one that produces a chemical that Dasospis cannot survive without, and another that sends the Dasospis into a rage. They have brilliant sight, hearing and smell.

Description: A dormouse with an exoskeleton, cricket-like legs, antennae, mandibles and eyes, a head that looks like a mixture of dormouse and cricket, and a scorpion tail. Its front legs are thick and spiny, and are used for climbing. It head is yellow, fading to brown on its thorax, and grey on its abdomen and tail.

LOGI Info: Microkentreos spend their lives on the backs of their Dasospis hosts, climbing among the growths on their backs and scuttling over the carapaces. A Microkentreos will usually choose the largest tree on its host’s back and build a nest in it. The only food Microkentreos eat is the “plants” that grow on their host’s backs. These growths have no nerves in them, so the Dasospis isn’t hurt by this. As well as this, nearly all the water Microkentreos drink is the water that the Dasospis spray from their humps. In exchange for the transport, shelter, protection and food the Dasospis provide, the Microkentreos clean them, remove pests and parasites and act as lookouts. Dasospis’s senses are poor, so they would often be unaware of predators or threats until it would be too late if it wasn’t for their symbiotic partners. Microkentreos have brilliant eyesight, hearing and smell, allowing them to locate threats, food and water, obstacles, and other things for the Dasospis. As well as this, they create a chemical in their bodies that the Dasospis need to survive. The chemicals needed to make this chemical are found in the Dasospis’s structures, but before they are modified by the Microkentreos, they can’t make use of them. Every day, usually just after waking up, the Microkentreos will travel to their host’s necks, find the spot just beneath their frills where their skin is softest and has many blood vessels running through it, and inject the chemical. The Dasospis can survive for about three days without the chemical, but will become extremely weak and sick, and eventually die. Before the Dasospis go into hibernation, the Microkentreos inject them with an extremely strong dose of the chemical. Because the Dasospis’s metabolism is far slower than normal during hibernation, the chemical lasts until it wakes up again.
A side effect of this chemical is that it makes the Dasospis extremely placid, dulls its senses slightly, and makes it feel unusually happy. It has been likened to some form of drug.
The Microkentreos also produce another chemical, with a vastly different function. This chemical sends the Dasospis into a rage, during which their bodies will flood with adrenaline, making them faster and stronger than normal, their senses will become sharper, and they will attack any animal they see. During this time, the Microkentreos usually climb into one of their Dasospis’s carapace growths and hang on tight, so that the Dasospis doesn’t see them and mistake them for a threat. The survival chemical won’t have any effect if it is injected while a Dasospis is under the effect of the rage chemical, and the effects of the rage chemical usually last from half and hour to two hours. Because of this, the Dasospis will be tired, sickly and hungry when the rage chemical wears off, and will need to eat even more than normal and receive an extra-large dose of survival chemical from its Microkentreos. They will also usually fall asleep for a few hours afterwards.
If an aggressor manages to climb onto the Dasospis’s back, it will be dealt with by the Microkentreos. Their long claws are mostly used for climbing, but they also make good weapons. Usually, a Microkentreos will try to throw any invader off its host’s back, so that the Dasospis can deal with them. If that doesn’t work, they will attack with stabs and slashes from their claws and stingers, and retreat into their host’s back growths if they feel threatened, before returning and attacking again. In this way, they tire out the opponent to make it easier for them to kill.

I'm sure that there is going to be some hybridisation between the two forms: a new beast, slouching towards us. I'm eagerly looking forward to meeting the beautiful mutant.

Only thing I've seen so far is that you don't have it listed as there being more than one Microkentreos. I'd assume you'd intend for there to be more than one but do correct me if my assumption is incorrect.

No, it's just one. All those duties do seem to be a bit much for one creature, though.

Is there anything else that needs to be changed, or can these be approved?
