Name: Toxic Dustspike (Venenocanthus ammonator) Height: 3 inches Length: 1.5 feet Weight: 4 kilograms Base DNA: Leopard gecko, Hypsognathus fenneri, Elginia mirabilis, Seymouria baylorensis, tiger salamander, Gastonia burgei, fattail scorpion, sandfish Abilities: Burrowing Weaknesses: Small, soft skin, cannot survive in cold temperatures Defenses: Spines, burrowing Special Attributes: Venom, burrowing Description: A green and yellow leopard gecko with black spots, a pale, cream coloured stomach, webbed feet, three cheek spikes on each cheek, two horns, spines down its back and small spikes on the top and underside of its tail. It has a wedge shaped, pointed nose. LOGI Info: Toxic Dustspikes are small omnivores that live in deserts and arid savannahs. They feed mostly on plants and insects, but will occasionally eat eggs or carrion. They aren’t particularly social, but they will tolerate each other’s company, and large groups of them are often found in areas that are rich in food or water. They spend most of the day sleeping and basking, camouflaged by a thin layer of sand, and become active at night. Due to being small, not particularly fast and quite soft skinned, they are hunted by many predators. Their main forms of defense are their horns, cheek spikes and tail spikes. These secrete a toxin that causes a mild burning sensation in the affected area. If a predator is not put off by their venom, they will burrow into the sand headfirst, using their shovel like snouts and webbed feet to dig so quickly it appears as though they are swimming. They have no specific mating season, so males and females will simply mate whenever they encounter each other, so long as the female isn’t pregnant. If two males reach a female at the same time, they will hold a contest involving pushing and shoving each other with their horns and thick skulls until the weaker male backs down. They give birth to live young, which are fed by their mother for a few days, but quickly become independent. Dustspikes are nomadic in nature, only staying in one place for a few days to a few weeks, before moving on. They have surprising amounts of stamina for such small creatures, and are able to make long treks across the desert, living off the fat reserves in their tails if they can’t find food or water. Looks great to me! I can't immediately see anything wrong with it, and it looks like it'll make a great addition to our desert habitats. 10/10 would carry one around at all times if it wasn't toxic haha. Great work! |
