Name: Mars (Belligeratornis martisi, Mars's Warrior Bird) Height: 9.8 feet Length: 12 feet Wingspan: 12.4 feet Weight: 216 pounds Base DNA: Imperial Woodpecker, Killdeer, Alligator Garfish, Velociraptor, Kelenken, Great Blue Heron, Animiavis, Abilities: Agile and quick on its feet. Above average running speed. It's sharp beak can be used to stab and impale other creatures. Weaknesses: Their scales provide minimal protection from impact attacks, meaning a powerful hit from a larger creature or something like a tail club can easily be bone-breaking. Heavy armor, such as bone armor can completely wall them. Even some lighter armors can be troublesome as they prevent Mars's scale-feathers from cutting. Though their nasal membranes aren't as thick as those of Animiavis, allowing them to still breath normally, it also means that small amounts of airborne poisons and such can still get through. As such, though it will take more to affect them than most creatures, such airborne poisons can still be a threat is used in great mass. Defenses: Scale-feathers. Wings. Agility. They have an extra eyelid and membranes in their nostrils -similar to Animiavis but not to quite the same extent so that it would restrict breathing- that gives them a level of protection against airborne poisons, chemicals, and pheramones. Special Attributes: The most obvious unusual feature of Mars are its "feathers", which are in fact sharp, hard scales. These provide Mars with both defense, and one of its forms of offense. By swinging, swiping, and slapping at foes with its wings and tail, it can use its scales to inflict many cuts with each hit. A non-physical feature is one of the tactics it will employ in battle. Much like a Killdeer will fake an injury to lure a predator away from its nest -something nesting Mars also sometimes do- Mars will fake an injury during battle to feint their opponent; tempting them into taking the apparent opening, but then launching a counter-attack when their foes attempted attack leaves them open and unsuspecting. Also, as its wings are used for fighting rather than flight, they are structured much more solidly than typical bird wings so they can withstand the abuse of combat. Description: Mars has the body and legs of a Kelenken. It's neck is like a Herons' but slightly thicker. It has the head and crest of an Imperial Woodpecker, though the beak is somewhat Heron-like. It has a pair of good-sized wings. The tail is Velociraptor-esque and covered in long tail feathers. All of its "feathers", excluding its crest, are in fact long, hard, sharp scales. The scales are grey while their crest is red. Females have smaller crests than males. LOGI: Mars make their homes in temperate forests. They mate for life and take turns between hunting and nesting. When not nesting and looking after young, Mars pairs will hunt together, often employing basic team tactics. The young usually stay with the parents for a few years until they're mostly full-grown. When hunting, Mars rely on their speed and beak; ambushing prey quickly and impaling them with it beak for a quick kill. As such, their usual prey in no bigger than they are. When faced with an actual battle, however, Mars use different tactics. They fight in a manner best comparable to a fencer, using dodge-and-strike tactics and feints. In such battles they also bring their wings and tails into play, spinning and slamming a foe with their tail or swinging and slapping with wings. They will also use their wings as a shield if needed. If an opponent is simply out of Mars's league they will flee rather than fight. If the territories of two groups of Mars overlap and result in a meeting, the battle that will follow is one of the most complex dances you might ever see. These battles are typically non-lethal, with the loser simply being driven out of the contested area. A lone Mars faced by a pair or family will usually just back off before any fighting begins. Other: God of War, fourth of the inner planets. Woodpecker is a symbolic animal of Mars(the god). I really like how it turned out. Not really a blunt powerhouse, but strategic. Fitting for how Mars(the god) was portrayed (at least in comparison to his Greek counterpart). I don't have tons to say about it. It speaks for itself. Picture! EDIT: Almost forgot I'd planned to give it nasal membranes similar to Animiavis. That would have been especially stupid if I had forgotten, seeing as I'd asked Ty for permission to use his creatures' DNA for it. |
