Name: Saturn (Aurumanguis saturnus, Saturns' Gold Dragon) Height: 24 feet (On all fours), 46 feet(Reared up) Length: 70 feet Weight: 16 tons Base DNA: European Dragon, Therizinosaurus, Tyrannosaurus, Stegosaurus, Alligator Garfish, Firefly, Abilities: Powerful bite-force can crush bones. Sharp horns on head, and thagomizers on its tail. Sharp claws on its feet, as well as it's 12-foot long Therizinosaur claws. Can crush smaller creatures with its weight. Has an excellent sense of smell. Weaknesses: Though it can make short leaps and lunges to ambush and/or attack creatures, it can only manage a slow run. It's glow can only be sustained for around a half hour at a time, after which it will take a few minutes (roughly ten) until it's recharged. Similarly to its glow, it can also only breath fire for an elapsed time of around six minutes before it needs a break to recharge. Although it's glow can be blinding, it also gives away Saturns' location. Defenses: Size. Scales. Blinding glow. Offenses. Special Attributes: Fire breath. It can also set it's entire body aglow -akin to a firefly but continuous rather than flashing- for a time. This not only turns it a golden color, but it is bright enough that it can blind other creatures. Description: It has a draconic body, tail, neck and limbs. It's head is a Tyrannosaurus's with three curved, backwards-pointing horns on the back of it like a crown, as well as a small horn on its nose, and two on its jowls. On its tail it has A stegosaurus's thagomizers. Where a dragon would have wings it instead has a pair of Therizinosaurus arms, hands, and claws. It's entire body is covered in grey, semi-transparent Alligator Gar scales. When it turns its light on, it shines through the scales and turns it a golden color. LOGI Info: Saturn, fully-grown, are feared predators of the mountains; a threat to many of the other inhabitants, but themselves threatened by a far smaller pool of creatures. They are solitary predators that hunt primarily by ambush. Usually they will lay still, their grey color blending with that of the mountain, or making them appear as a rock. When prey comes along they will lunge at their chosen victim -similarly to how an Alligator or Crocodile would- and crush them with powerful jaws. Sometimes, they've been witnessed roasting flying creatures that stray to close right out of the air with a blast of fire, then swatting them to the ground with their large claws if necessary. When faced with a creature that cannot simply be killed in one shot, that requires actual combat, Saturn will set themselves aglow in golden light. Usually this gives the Saturn an advantage, as though it abandons any attempt at stealth, the light will daze or blind foes, such that it makes it hard for them to look at the Saturn they're fighting. Not to mention the intimidation factor of such a display, often accompanied by the Saturn rearing up and bearing its therizinosaur claws, right before striking with them and/or some other form of attack. By preference, Saturn will make their dens in caves, though lacking such they will make their home in other rocky, protected, dark areas they find, such as near the bottom of a cliff. These dens are often filled with a pile of bones from past meals, mixed with various shiny objects. Though these hoards might not seem to have an initial purpose, they are actually serve as a defense of the Saturns den. If an intruder were to come about -one that the Saturn cannot easily dispatch- the Saturns' natural response is to activate its glow. In the dark of the den, the glow will shine off of the reflective objects in the hoard, made into a massive monument by the "filler" of bones, amplifying the effects of the glow. Though normally solitary creatures that would fight off others of their kind, in December Saturn will seek out mates. The mating ritual involves displays from both creatures, rearing up and showing off both their claws and glow. If impressed, both Saturn will stay in the area but will not actually mate until the warmer months of Spring are near. Once the eggs are laid, the relationship ends with the typically larger female turning violent against the smaller male and fending off any other suitors until they are without young. This is with good reason, as male Saturn have been known to cannibalize younger Saturn, sometimes even their own offspring. Usually, two-to-four eggs will be laid in a batch. Once the eggs hatch, the young Saturn will stay with their mother for a few years until they reach around thirty feet in length. It will still be another year until they reach sexual maturity, around forty feet in length by now. It will still take years more until the Saturn reaches full size as its growth begins slowing down. During what are effectively their teenage years, the time after they leave their parent to when their growth starts slowing down, young Saturn are to be treated with just as much caution, possibly more, than the full-growns. A smaller size grants them speed and agility not present in the older specimens. Coupled with hormones and a hunger borne of growth fueling them, they are far more active predators that are more likely to run down prey then wait for a close-range ambush. This is only a small part of the Saturns' overall life, however, as even once at full size Saturn have lengthy lifespans less they are killed first. Sometimes their fire breath will set light to foliage and start wildfires. Though destructive, in the after math of these fires the burned remains make fertilizer for future growth. Other: Saturn. As a planet, it's that real pretty one known for its ice-and-rock ring. As the Roman deity, Saturn is the Roman counterpart to Cronos and shares much the same stories. Among his domains he is a god of wealth, agriculture, and time. These have been referenced by various aspect of this creature. It's golden glow; both a reference to the beauty of the planet, as well as how Saturns' reign was considered a "Golden Age". It's large claws; the sickle/scythe symbolic of Cronos. The sightings of it taking flying creature out in mid-air; naturally, as Saturn/Cronos overthrew his father who was the primordial being and personification of the sky. The hoard of shiny-things; though a reference to a common portrayal of dragons, too, it also a refers to Saturn being a god of wealth. The fires they sometimes cause; agriculture. The males cannibalism; how Saturn/Cronos ate his children. Their long lifespans; Saturns' position as a god of time. Their December mating ritual; the same time the Saturnalia festival was held. It's habitat; though it wasn't intentional, it lives in the rocky, icy mountains. (The planet) Saturns' rings are made of rock and ice. As well, as the first outer planet I've posted, it's worth mentioning the theme I'm giving them. Just as the inner planets (save Terra) were birds, the outer planets (save Pluto) will be draconic. Picture! (Not 100% happy with how it turned out, but meh.) |
