So Ty and I had a very enjoyable seven hours straight of Civ that was filled with Ikea jokes. ![]() Long story short, I took Arabias' capital and then knocked 'im down to one city. Then I headed south and started working on Venice. After taking one Venetian city, Ty found himself in a bit of a pickle as one of his big-bad neighbors -Indonesia- declared war on him. What happened next was me making my first utterance of "yolo" as I declared war of Gajah and Shaka while still at war with Venice. This picture shows what imminently happened next. I do now terribly regret not taking more pics of what happened after that, but I ended up taking the Indonesia city in the picture and eliminating Venice from the game. I then started work on the OTHER Indonesian city next to Venice I had not previously seen, but because of the fairly flat terrain I could only get two Keshiks in range, and that ended when the border grew thanks to Gajah having the Great Wall. A Great General just arrived on the scene before we stopped, with my intent being to steal back my spot to get in-and-out of range and wear the city down again. Meanwhile to the south, I razed one newly-founded Zulu city and then split up my Keshiks (not counting the two up at the Indonesian city) to attack two captured city states at the same time. On the turn we stopped, three Impi had just shown up at Ragusa that were in line to get shot to bits, meanwhile the few Impi up at the other CS were getting fairly well curb-stomped. Dunno if we'll continue the game, since Ty self-admittedly is beyond a chance of winning, and I'm at the top of all but a few demographics. We'll have to see. Anyway, if anyone else wants to try setting up a game sometime, well, you know how to contact me.

Yeah, DF was definitely doing absolutely great. I on the other hand was in a bit more of a pickle. During the time Indo-Sweden Conflict, I was just about to lose Ikea, my capital... and then I asked for peace and got it at 0 cost. Single dumbest move I've seen the AI pull, seeing that he had a musketman poised to take my city, which was its self at 0 health, and he didn't even ask to have one of my newly founded cities as part of the peace arrangement. He didn't even ask for GPT. Is it wrong that while Ikea was burning I sat back and started building the Taj Mahal instead of building more military units? #WhileIkeaBurns Other than that, I spent a lot of time doing nothing, my only great achievement being founding the World Congress and becoming DF's political puppet to keep Indonesia out of power. None the less, it was a good 7 hours of straight gameplay and I wouldn't mind continuing it. Unfortunately though, I will at best really only have an hour a day at the most to do so. Life resumes again.. :/ Anyway, great game DF! It was definitely enjoyable. EDIT: AH yes, my only other great achievement was getting Russia to attack Indonesia and then blocking off all of Indonesia's troops (located in the capital) from protecting their exclave (located next to Russia), which was a very big defeat for them as it was full of luxury and strategic resources not located in Indonesia's traditional territory. I'm sure if we keep the game going Indonesia will soon fall from power. |

Yep, I expect Indonesia will fall or at least be crippled beyond repair by the time Catherine is done with them. On my continent, I expect I might take a few small losses to Shaka but ultimately he'll fall. At which point, though, I'll also need to be upgrading my elephants and keshiks which means some changing of tactics and unit production. I'd started building Citadels between me and Brazil, so I expect after I clear out Shaka I'd send in a nice strong infantry force (maybe some Bombers too) to clear them out and then finish off Arabia to have full control of the continent. After that, it would really just be me and Russia left in contention for the final stretch. Oh, and don't forget Cultural Askia.

Tyltalis' World Atlas A brief description of the world as known by the scholars of the University of AstraZeneca. Leader: Pho Khun Đăi nô Phlâêm Ideology: Autocratic Capital: Siam is the most powerful nation in the surface of Dee-Eph, situated in the northern sub-tropical and semi-arid region of the Western continent. The early history of Siam is largely unknown, though first contact was established in the early Renaissance during the Swedish age of exploration. At that time, the Empire of Siam was truly gaining traction as an empire, conquering the neighboring Caliphate of Arabia. Soon after, diplomatic ties were solidified with Siam, and by the mid-renaissance the first fully operational Ikea was opened in Sukhothai. In the following century and we'll into the Industrial era Siam would go on to conquer the Venetian Republic and the overseas territories held by the Holy Indonesian Empire. Both would quickly be eliminated by the time of the Siamese Autocracy. In the current age, Siam is at war with the Empire of the Zulu Nation. Siam is undoubtedly the world power of our age, rivaled only by the Soviet Union. Union of Soviet Socialist Republics Leader: Premier Yekaterina Alexeyevna Ideology: Communism Capital: Moscow Originating from the north eastern tundra along the Ob river basin, the Russian people were very isolationist for a large portion of their history until a heavy period of expansion began in the mid classical era, which saw Russian expansion both South West along the river Ob as well as North into the vast taiga. The Russians soon became master horsemen, and to this day Russian horses are the most widely distributed and highly praised for their durability and strength. Quickly, the Russian Empire expanded from sea to sea, encompassing the vast majority of the northern portion of the eastern continent. Soon after, the Russian Empire was revolutionized by Communism and re-emerged as the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. It was during this time that the Soviet Union began flexing it's muscles, it's iron curtain absorbing the Socialist Republic of Slovakia and the Socialist Republic of Ormus. The most recent expansion of the iron curtain was the Swedish-funded occupation of the Socialist Republic of the East Indies, giving the USSR full control of the northern half of their landmass with the exception of the Swedonesian Peninsula. Holy Indonesian Empire Leader: Mahapatih Gajah Mada Capital: Jakarta Historically, the Indonesians were tentative allies of the Swedish people, though the relationship was always full of tension and distrust. The Indonesian peoples were a devout race, worshipping their hundred gods of Hinduism. Before long, followers of the Hindu gods could be found as far south as Rome. The first expansion taken on by Indonesia was the colonization of the East Indies, a chain of colonies along the cold northern coast of the mainland. This area proved to be incredibly important to Indonesia as it was full of many resources not found on the Swedonesian Peninsula. The second wave of colonisation began around the late Renaissance when Indonesia established overseas colonies along the Venetian Coast. During the early Industrial age, Indonesia betrayed it's long held alliance with Sweden, going so far as to very nearly conquer the capital city, Ikea. In the end though, a combined strike from Siam and Russia soon led to an end on the war against Sweden as the Indonesian Empire was torn apart, leaving them with only their original territory on the southern side of Swedonesian. While Indonesia was one of the wealthiest and most influential civilizations of the East, it is unlikely that Indonesia will ever return to being the great empire it once was. The Empire of the Zulu Nation Leader: High King Shaka kaSenzangakhona Capital: Ulundi The Zulu Nation is a proud country to the far south of Siam. Primarily tribal in nature, the Zulu became one united nation under the rule of Shaka Zulu, forming an extensive civilization across the southern portion of the Western continent, as well as conquering several smaller nations by force. The Zulu are said to be fierce warriors, but their martial tradition has become outdated and even the elite Zulu Impis cannot hold their own against the conquering Siamese armies. Kingdom of Brazil Leader: Rei Magnânimo Pedro de Alcântara João Carlos Leopoldo Salvador Bibiano Francisco Xavier de Paula Leocádio Miguel Gabriel Rafael Gonzaga Capital: Rio de Janeiro The Brazilian Kingdom is a heavily isolationist state located in the deep jungles in the center of the Western continent. Known for its very exotic culture and not much else, the Brazilian people worship a faith known as Catholicism, which has begun replacing Islam as the most popular religion in the Zulu Nation. Venetian Republic Leader: Doge Enrico Dandolo Capital: Venice The Republic of Venice was an ancient regime established along the eastern coast of the western continent, known for peacefully expanding its rule over other states along the coastline, amongst them the city-state of Byblos. The Venetian Republic is now a memory of the past, heard of primarily in Siamese record books and in Zulu oral history. Duchy of Arabia Leader: Duke Harun al-Rashid Capital:??? The once mighty Islamic Empire of Arabia (also known as the Caliphate) once encompassesed much of the Siamese desert, but was destroyed not long before it was discovered by Swedish explorers. Nothing else is known of the Arabian people. Principality of America Leader: Prince George Washington Capital: Philadelphia America was traditionally a nation from the tropical central coast of the eastern continent until it was invaded by Songhai and conquered. The government in exile and refugees established the twin cities of Philadelphia and Boston just south of Russia, but it wasn't long before Boston was razed by Songhai. The remnants of America are a tiny and backward enclave that will likely be absorbed by the USSR in due time. -to be continued- |

Yup, yup. Pretty accurate of how things were going/went. Brazil was definitely isolationist, at least towards me. IIRC they were the last or second last Civ from my continent that I met, and you can easily see in the picture I posted how geographically close they are to me. |

So I decided to start a new game today with random leader and I, uh... I got Gajah. XD It's actually going a lot better than I figured. I'm not too behind on science, I've only gotten two bad Kris, I've got four cities of my own, two of which are on islands (with two more islands nearby, though at least one of those will need to be cleared of barabarians), and two more cities from my recent curb-stomping of the Netherlands. It's rather surprising, considering I got delayed on my first city due to barbarians and iron is pretty rare. And by rare, I mean there are very few spots of it, and I've only seen one spot with six (right down in the southern snow, other side of the continent from me, of course) and the rest were all just yields of two. Luckily my capital was near one source, not to mention three sources of gold. Unfortunately, the next nearest was in the middle of barren, flat desert, and the other two were in the Netherlands' area (a main reason why I went to war with them, aside from them being the only other civ I've found on my continent to found a religion, and simply for being the closest civ to me). Right now nearly half of my iron is coming from a luxury trade with none other than Genghis. |

Pffft nice haha. And also thank you for beating up Will, I ain't never liked him. It's also ironic when you take into consideration the history of Majapahit and the Low Countries. And hey, no Kris is a bad Kris if you know how to use them. Usually. But hey, best of luck in your current game!!! I have one going on right now as the Saami on a Terra map, but nothing has really come of it yet, and I have a TSL game as Brazil going on where I currently own all of Latin America and have established colonies in West/Central Africa. |

Well, pretty much how it's going is really, really good. With the exception of approval (oc) and literacy (though I am near the top, in around 2nd to 4th or so) I'm on top of all the demographics. It's just nicely into the early renaissance now. After my conquest of the Netherlands I was planning to go east and take on France, except Napoleon had the Great Wall. Only I discover that Genghis is immediately south of the Netherlands, has a captured CS there, and apparently doesn't like that I picked up the Netherlands myself. India also asked me to go to war, just as I was readying for it. What followed, of course, was something that brought tears to my eyes as I proceeded to take Genghis best cities for myself, raze the rest, and ultimately eliminate him. Then I headed back north to France, and declared war on them just after Babylon further north did. The Great Wall forced me to basically just zerg rush in with my swordsmen, but rather than attacking I just barricaded it in and eventually got it in a peace treaty, which was largely my plan all along. Why? Because then I had a border to place a citadel on to work around the Wall and take Paris. So now the remainder of France is in shambles/defenseless, and I just need to clean it up before taking on Babylon. If I'm not mistaken that then leaves only India and Egypt down in the south-east area on my continent, both of which should be easy enough to crush either sooner or later depending how things go. I am kind of disappointed, though, because seemingly none of the last wave of mods I had downloaded the other week are working/downloaded properly.

I think I might want to up the difficulty setting for my next game... Basically on turn 250 I was already on top of all the demographics and had eliminated my first Civ. That screenshot shows how things have gone from there.

So I decided to do TSL as Holland. I knew it would be tough because of my UI being for marshes, and TSL has like no marsh. I start it up. Only neighbors I find is Venice. Im thinking this will be fun, a nice game where I can expand and take over Europe without much worry. Haha nope. 16 turns in game crashes. Start it up again. This time Venice and Bavaria spawned next to me, and apparently Hitler did too but his settler got taken by a barbarian which then became my settler. I also find the Hittites, Kievan Rus, and Armania which was really interesting because none of those civs had spawned at all in the past for me- except the Hittites but that game never got far. But nope, 18 turns into the game it crashes. So I'm talking to Blix and he says that Enactments and Decisions are causing crashes for him, so I removed it, and started up my game. Starts out terribly, I have Switzerland, Nazi Germany, and Denmark surrounding me, with Rome and Greece to the south. I see some Prussian cities early on but they quickly become part of Germany. Portugal and Prussia are my only allies in Europe, Switzerland claims to be "neutral" despite having random warriors stationed on my borders (note it's the renaissance) and after a war with Denmark that only ended with them retaining Copenhagen because of a stupid glitch that is causing me to be unable to trade with other civs so I have unhappiness. So after my Sea Beggar takes a few longboats and all their pikeman they send over to attack Rotterdam fail, they ask for peace. It doesn't last long because within three turns of the peace treaty expiring Hitler and Bluetooth are attacking me. Well, they should be. Bluetooth sent over a single composite bowman and that's it. Hitler sent over Musketmen, Pikemen, and Knights, but for some reason he only attacks cities with my knights which obviously does not end well for him. And of course because of all this I have unhappiness because my worker is too dumb to go improve the luxuries I have in our English colony, and I still can't trade. Fun. |

So I started a new game of Civ today and so far I'm getting really into it, more so than most of my other recent games. It's a TSL with mods and set to Emperor difficulty, playing as Byzantium. Here's the basic series of events so far. -The standard early game stuff of meeting people and getting set up. Of course, I ended up with the Ottomans on one side of me and Greece on the other side across the straight. I quickly claimed the space left between me and the Ottomans by founding two coastal cities. -Greece and Rome declare war on me. My army consists of a Warrior, a Scout, and an Archer. -Greece and Rome do nothing for about 30+ turns, during which time I build half a dozen Dromons and a second Warrior. -I give the name "Greek Fire" a whole new meaning. (That's from the first turn of my attack; next turn I finish it.) -Within a few turns of claiming Athens and making peace with my two enemies, Poland and Russia team up to attack me from the north. -I send my Dromons north and proceed to slaughter Polands zerg-rush on one of my cities. -The Polish coastal city just north of my own that was under attack learns what happened to Athens. -Eventual peace treaty with Poland and Russia, netting me some money and a good-sized inland Polish city that I set alight. -Expanding my navy and starting to buff my land forces, I prepare to attack the Ottomans. My main focus is the small city they founded right where Egypt would be, with additional forces set to rough-up any units dumb enough to go near the water. -------------------- Just in case I didn't get it across, I DO NOT by any means have the strongest military right now. Even with all my additions, I'm still only 13 out of 22 on the demographics for military. The only two demographics I'm notable in is land (1st) and technology (2nd). Furthermore I'm literally surrounded by enemies, stuck between Europe and the Middle East. Oh, and did I mention that Dido ended up in this game, too? Pretty much, as good as I am admittedly doing, I am by no means safe. I think that "all the odds against me" situation combined with my use the the Dromons being such a change from my usual tactics is what has gotten me so into this run. |

So first of all, thank you to Ty and Flish for letting me in on that game on Saturday. It was a blast while it lasted! I'd definitely be game for arranging another match with you guys (or anyone else interested for that matter) in the near future as/if it suits. Speaking of which I just confirmed with my boss my winter schedule at least for the time being. Basically I'll be working Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, though I might need to switch days if I need a specific day off, and I might get asked to fill in an extra day too. I.E. this week I've been asked to work on Thursday in addition to my other three days, and next week I'll need to take Wednesday off and be working Thursday instead. But yeah, either way, I've got three-to-four days a week off for the next while. Lots of time to arrange for a few matches... and get some Genome related work done, such as a certain tournament that I'm sure DG is going to be bugging me about again soon. |
