Autocracy is good but I, for one, prefer Order. Building a powerful army is one thing, but it's kind of useless if you are entirely unable to support it. This is why I kind of prefer civs like the Zulu and Songhai who have boosts towards maintaining armies/building a powerful, wide empire, as opposed to ones that just hit "fast and hard", like Japan and Mongoria. But I think that's more of just a personal preference than anything. Both are good. If you're playing using diplomacy and Dom (e.g., you're going Siam and trying to kill everyone with elephants), it is probably preferable to get Auto so you can get Gunboat Diplomacy or whatever it's called. As for the Celts, I definitely think going Liberty is worthwhile. They're easily one of the best wide cultural civs; the only other good one from my experience being the Moroccans, if you spawn in area that has lots of desert to expand to. Indeed, from my personal experience, it's actually more useful to get Liberty before Piety, even though they're both Ancient-era policy trees. Your UA means you are going to get the first Pantheon, anyway. |

Much as you said, it is a matter of circumstance. Ultimately, I feel that Autocracy gives you an ultimatum. Conquer all or die trying. It gives you speed, strength, experience, resources, even happiness by the boat load. But none of that is worth anything if your economy can't handle the push to win. Order is more versatile. It gives you the power to destroy, but it also helps you maintain a wide empire more efficiently. Personally I'd take Order any day, unless if you feel like you can win with one mighty push. |

I remember playing as Songhai once. It was like Mongolia but all melee instead of ranged and not quite as fast-paced. ![]() And yes, I'm definitely going for Liberty first. It makes sense to get the culture boost first (for more policies) and the settler (for more Faith from forests) before I start working on Piety. |

I only got far enough to be nicely started using their UU before my comp died, but they certainly seemed promising. BTW, good news; probably getting my laptop on Sunday. Bad news; I'll still need to get my internet going again to get it installed let alone play online, and I have no clue how long that will take to happen. :\ |

In rush, can't explain. Have favor to ask. Got Civ V Complete installed on new comp, but only what I had on my old comp -Vanilla + G&K- is installed. No BNW or DLC beside Khan. From that I assume it is a problem relating to Steam. If any of u know how to solve this or can look up solutions online, I would be very appreciative. If I know what the problem is/how to fix it I might still be able to do it tonight. If not I'll have to wait until at least tomorrow night to get internet access to try. Thnx guys.

Ok, yeah, so better explanation... I got my new computer yesterday, and through the wonder of free wi-fi at Tim Hortons I was able to install Civ V Complete. However, instead of installing everything, it only installed the content I previously had on my old comp; vanilla and G&K, but none of the DLC (aside from Mongolia) or BNW. So I'm assuming the issue is something with Steam, since that's the only connecting factor between what I had on my old comp and now. And of course, my phone doesn't get along well with the support/troubleshooting sites, it turns out. So since BNW isn't installed yet I'm holding off on the Celts and going for a Mongolia run in the meantime. ![]() |

Leader: Genghis Khan, Mongolia Map: Continent Players: 10 Content: G&K Leaders Log (Genghis), Turn 62 Karkorum has flourished into a still small but thriving city of six. It lays nestled beside a river, surrounded by sparsely forested plains in the near area. Sources of horses are plentiful in this area. We appear to be just of the southern coast of the continent. So far we have met the following fellow civilizations; The Netherlands, Iroquois, Japan, and Persia. The Netherlands lie to the west, their capital located at the start of a jungle. We also believe the Iroquois lie to the west, but north and inland of the Netherlands. Persia lies to the north, and Japan to the distant north-east near the eastern coast. We have also met the city-states of Budapest and Hong Kong. The former lies close to the north-east of Karakorum, while the later lies off on the east-coast. This marks a monumental day in what will be our peoples' history. With a force of four Warriors, soon accompanied by two Archers and a Khan, we launched war against the Netherlands and their capital. Today the siege of Amsterdam has ended in a success for our people, albeit at the loss of one Warrior. Amsterdam is a glorious prize, nestled in the crook of two meeting rivers, among hill and jungle. It will be highly defensible and useful once brought up to the glory of the Mongolian Empire. Now our forces wait and recover to move against the other cities of The Netherlands. Meanwhile back at Karakorum, we near the technology needed to start building a mounted army... Leaders Log (Genghis), Turn 64 We have made peace with the Netherlands in exchange for the city of Utrecht. Leaders Log (Genghis), Turn 102 A great loss has befell our empire as much of our army has fallen. An army from Japan made way to Karakorum, and our Warriors stood bravely in their way at their own loss. Through ranged combat and the creation of a Citadel at a bottleneck approaching the city, we were nonetheless able to keep the Japanese away from the capital. But not all is lost by this, as Karakorum now builds it infrastructure to produce a new, stronger army... Amsterdam is picking up speed in its growth, and a worker unit has been sent there to aid in the efforts. Utrecht is not too far behind. However, it lies on the east border of the Netherlands and south of the Iroquois capital. The former is no concern, as the Netherlands are a broken people after our conquest. The Iroquois however, might prove a threat in the future. Utrecht will need to be strong if such a future comes to be... Leaders Log (Genghis), Turn 113 Peace has been made with Japan. For now... Leaders Log (Genghis), Turn 116 And there go the Iroquois, declaring war. Construction of The Great Wall has begun. Leaders Log (Genghis), Turn 119 Utrecht has been capture by the Iroquois. Leaders Log (Genghis), Turn 163 The Great Wall was built and a new city founded north of Karakorum. As of this turn, we have made peace with the Iroquois. However, our cavalry is nearly ready for attack, and then the wood-dwellers will tremble before us. Meanwhile, relations with Persia stand very good. Japan has been expanding in the east, and must be watched carefully until an attack can be made on them... Leaders Log (Genghis), Turn 186 Our Keshik force has reclaimed Utrecht with ease. We have made peace with the Iroquois for now, as Japan appears to be moving in for another attack. They will be met with full force and no mercy. In other news, relations with Persia have degraded somewhat, and an un-met player has lost their capital. Leaders Log (Genghis), Turn 187 Turns out Japan is going to war against Persia, not us. Nonetheless, this is the perfect chance to take out their armies and silence Japan once and for all... Leaders Log (Genghis), Turn 196 Persia and Japan have made peace, and Gordium has been captured from Japan by us. Persia is unfortunately showing signs of aggression, however. With the lands of Japan distant, it might be better to make an attack against the very close Persepolis... A spy has also been placed in a Japanese city. Leaders Log (Genghis), Turn 207 The Persain capital of Persepolis has fallen to our might. We shall now march on Ecbatana to the east, then head north to the Tundra-based city of Pasargadae. There we will claim a valuable source of Iron, and as well, it will let us attack the Iroquois capital from behind, on it's side of the river it neighbors. |

Well, not necessarily, but more-or-less, yeah. Thinking of which, I need to install ZT2 sometime... Leaders Log (Genghis), Turn 222 The continued attack on Persia has been a success. The cities of Ecbatana, Tarsus, and Pasargade have been added to our empire, and Susa smolders and burns in the northern snows. Only Bactra remains of the Persia civilization, and soon it too will fall. While a couple units continue the assault to finish this war, the rest of the main force is moving into position to attack the Iroquois. In the south, a small force is nearly formed at Karakorum. The Netherlands have settled a city near our capital, and it will not be tolerated. Cut off from the rest of the Nethlands, it will fall easily and quickly as soon as the time is right. The Mongolian Empire has now grown into a true Empire. It stretches across the middle of the continent now, from Karakorum on the south coast, to the Persain lands on the north. A road system between Karakorum, Amsterdam, and Beshbalik has been formed. Workers labor even now to extend it. Soon Utrecht will be connected, and more importantly, Gordium will be conected as well. With the road to Gordium, Karakorum will then be connected to the rest of the Persain lands by their existing roads. First we will strike south from Pasargade and Persepolis to take control of the west. Then we head east; to the colonies of Japan and the Iroquois, until finally reaching the Japanese homelands themselves. The same peoples who once marched an army far south to Karakorum and crippled our army will finally be repaid for their actions. |

Well, CS, if you want, you can try downloading steam and then playing the free demo of civ to see how your computer responds to it. If it can take it then it can probably take the basic version of the game on a low graphics setting!' And DF this looks awesome! I've been writing two of these lately as well, one about my game as Vietnam and the other as Carthage, both games I beat last night at like, 3 in the morning when I got back from this wedding I went to lol. |

Leaders Log (Genghis), Turn 238 The Iroquois homelands have been won. At the Battle of Buffalo Creek, the armies of Mongolia and the Iroquois met. Though we suffered a couple losses, their army was broken and Buffalo Creek taken. At Onondaga we finished off the splintered remains of their military as they made a vain attempt to protect their capital. Once Onondaga feel to you might, Osininka and Grand River both feel within a few turns each. Now our armies regroup, and Keshiks line the northern border of the Netherlands... |
