Yeah, I figured you'd have to be pulling all the tricks out of the bag to manage that. Even when I play a peaceful game (I.E. My recent Celt game) I rarely get higher then say 20 or so for very long. When I'm NOT playing peacefully, well, just look at my recent Mongolian game. If I'm above 0 I'm doing good in those ones. I don't have any mods yet, but that does look like a cool one. I'll check it out when I can for sure. |

So last night I figured out why I hadn't been meeting any other civs. Turns out that the Mayans, Morocco and I had a small continent all to ourselves. I did meet the Ottomans though, which has been very informative. First of all, there's another continent to the south. Second, there must be a connection between the two continents by coast. Lastly, the Ottomans lost their capital to Russia, though I haven't met Russia yet. So at this point I've captured the city I wanted from Morocco and I've left them with one city so I have someone to trade with, seeing as all of the nearby city-states are off-shore. I've got scouts set to start exploring for the southern continent, and meanwhile my now decently sized army is putting in training by wiping out the Mayans |

Incan Domination Victory, Turn 438, Score: 4283 And I finished it off in the best way possible. WITH NUCLEAR WEAPONS!!! ![]() Poor Constantinople. ![]() (And yes, I've got screenshots that I'll hopefully upload later.) I've got to say that I really like the new Airports. It would have been hades to move my troops by sea that far. Not sure what I want to do next yet. I could keep playing that game and completely wipe out all the other civs, but even if they all teamed up against me it would be easy to wipe them all out. I'm tempted to just do random leader, but I might just do a game as Rome. |

Yessssssssssssssssssssss. Fantastic job DF! And Nuclear Weapons are the best thing ever. And gotta love Airports and to an extent, carriers and submarines. As for what to do next, get out of your comfort zone and see how that goes. Try being Venice or something jaja. Random Leader would work too though. |

Yeah, I might try Venice or Ploy next. Maybe Denmark. But first... I've just started a new game. Third civ I've met, my neighbor to the west. It's Attila. "I f***ed up Rome. Try not to be Rome." I'm playing as Rome. DDD: |

Ugh I hate his intro thing because A.) He screams at you, B.) The whole thing about Rome. For instance, in one game, I spawned with Rome as my closest neighbor. Then in the Renaissance I finally get the tech to cross the oceans and I find the Huns somewhere else doing their own thing and they're like "LOL I PWNT R0M3 L3Lz" and I'm just like... you don't even have Galleases and have never met another civ that isn't me or Sweden, in what way does this phrase even remotely make sense??? A tip with Poly: Try to play like a normal Civ, but while hugging the coast. I always try to send all my settlers across the oceans to settle on different lands and I always get killed off. |

If you play as Polynesia try to find a peninsula or something where you can get lots of coast, the more coast the more moais, which are really Polynesia's only useful advantage over other civs, besides founding the world congress. if you can get four or five in a row they become incredibly good. With Polynesia it's less about settling the coast and more about owning as many coast tiles as possible. On the game I won as them I was actually inland for some odd reason, but I had the ocean about three tiles from me on each coast and was able to get lots of moais because of it. |

Poly tips duly noted. So an islands map is where they'd shine the most, ultimately? I haven't said anything about my Rome game so far or taken any shots because so far nothing really exciting had happened. Until now, as things start getting a bit more interesting. First of all the lay of the land and the players. I'm playing a huge (12 player) Continents Plus map. There are two continents. The first one where I am is shaped somewhat like the letter "U". The west side in smaller, and starts out thickest in the south, bottlenecks, then gets a bit wider again in the north. The east side is thicker all the way through. The two side connect through a small land-bridge only two tiles wide at its smallest. Rome lies just north east of it a few tiles and those two tiles were formerly the last ones on my western border. The civs on U are as follows. On the west side, The Huns in the south, and Spain to the north halfway up that side. On the east side, from south to north is France, Rome (Me!), China, Morocco(They've been in every game I've played since having BNW, I notice...), and then Japan. The second continent is wide and sort of rectangular and goes from roughly the equator south. From west to east the civs there are; The Iroquois, Mongolia, Songhai, and then on the east cost The Inca in the north and Ethiopia to the south of them. Off the top of my head, current relations are as follows. -Everyone dislikes/hates The Huns and Mongolia. -I'm friends/friendly with everyone right now except The Huns, and Mongolia. Though Mongolia is less I don't like them and more-so that they apparently don't like me. - Japan doesn't like China and Morocco. -China and France have a mutual dislike of each other. -Songhai is but a few cities thank to Mongolia ergo special note of that. -Ethiopia and The Inca don't get along. Probably has something to do with the Inca having Ethiopia's capital. Basically I've just played it peacefully and relatively small so far, leading in science, culture, and diplomacy. The only thing that happened previously really was that Attila attacked me once but that was just a complete F-up on Attilas part. Only one of his units that crossed my borders survived. How did I beat him? By have a Castle built and a single Composite Bowman. Yeah, that's all it took, and all he did was pillage a few easily repaired improvements and crack his skull against my walls. Then I put an embargo on him (meanwhile Mongolia also got embargo'd without any influence from me) and then my last proposal embargoed city-states. Anyway, to the point of what happened as I was finishing up last night (as a note, it's somewhere in the 300 and something turn range now and I'm in the modern era). I noticed Attila was amassing an army so I called up some other civs to attack in 10 turns and built up my own forces. My forces consisted of one cannon, two lancers, three gattling guns, two frigates, and one ironclad. I launch and attack on one city from land, and the other by sea. I captured the land city and got the other one (which I had on the ropes) through the peace treaty. I lost no units. Also, for kicks, I'd just got the Iron Curtain tenet so yay for free courthouses! And since the peace treaty went in effect I've now got three bombers in range of Attila's Court. This gunna be fun. |

How much strain does Civ tend to put on a computer, on a scale of 1 to Spore? My computer just about handles Spore, with a few crashes every now and then, and doesn't have too much of an issue with anything less complicated. |

In comparison to Spore I'm not sure. I know I was able to run both on my old laptop though, but whether that means Civ is more or less I'm not sure. I'll take a look here in a few minutes what the requirements on the cases say. EDIT: Alright, so I'm far from an expert at reading system requirements, but as far as I can tell they seem to be similar between Spore and Civ V Complete. At least as far as memory goes, Spore says it needs 4GB of RAM plus an extra GB for content. Civ's recommended memory is 4GB. Now, there's obviously more to it than just that, but I think that means you should in theory be good in that regard. Do you happen to know what sort of processor your computer has? |
