Name: Deepwrack (Cryoskotafyki dyskolepizon)

Height: 4 feet
Width: 3 feet

Weight: 10 kilograms

Base DNA: Giant kelp, bull kelp, buckwheat, common vetch, edible mushroom, breadcrumb sponge, Hypsibius dujardini

Abilities: Can grow in the dark and in low temperatires, can survive under great pressure

Weaknesses: Severe damage to its holdfast can be lethal, fronds are soft, rooted in place

Defenses: Inaccessible habitat, tough holdfast

Special Attributes: Kelp

Description: A thick, tough, spongy holdfast, grey in colour, with kelp fronds similar to those of giant kelp, lighter grey than the holdfast. Powerful roots protrude from its underside, clasping onto any solid surface beneath the Deepwrack to anchor it and spreading outwards and downwards to locate and absorb nutrients.

LOGI Info: Deepwrack, as its name suggests, grows in deep, saline water, in seas and oceans at depths of between 3000 and 6000 meters. They are found on the abyssal plain, with their holdfasts clinging to any hard substance, such as rocks or bones and spreading out into the surrounding phytodetritus to gather nutrients. They need no light to grow and can survive low temperatures and great pressure. They are grazed upon by a few deep sea creatures, proving food for herbivores which would usually find little to eat in a place such as that.
They are pollinated by small fish and crustaceans, producing a waterproof, soft, slightly sticky and crumbly substance, almost like cheese in consistency and black in colour, to attract them. This substance, known as dark ambrosia, is produced by small, fleshy cups which grow amongst the fronds during the summer. At the narrow entrance to the cups are the pollen glands, which produce waterproof, sticky pollen that coats anything which enters. The glands have comb like hairs which catch any pollen already on whatever is entering. After fertilization has occurred, the cups become large, bulging seed pods. Inside these, along with the seeds, is a soft, spongy, buoyant substance which allows the pods to float. Once they break free of the parent plant they float away, decomposing as they drift and scattering their seeds to every current the encounter, eventually bringing them back to the ocean depths.

Ok, so with my iBrain's battery recharged, I am ready for some sciencing.

I'm sure that there is going to be some hybridisation between the two forms: a new beast, slouching towards us. I'm eagerly looking forward to meeting the beautiful mutant.
