Name (of creature): Dragon’s Den (Dracofolia aplistio = Greedy Dragon’s Den) Height: Each segment is around 0.2 cm tall, but the entire thing can become 70 meters (230 feet) tall at most. Width: Each segment is around 2.4 cm wide, but the entire thing can become 85 meters (280 feet) wide at most. Weight: Each segment weighs around 8-10 grams, but the entire thing can weigh 2000 tons. Base DNA: Firefly, Redwood Sequoia, Sundew Plant, Ironclad Beetle, Termite, Armillaria solidipes Abilities: Ummm… Eating and growing? Weaknesses: Cannot defend itself from attack. Cannot survive without a guardian. Can be pulled apart from the rest of the colony rather easily. Defenses: Resistant to fire. Almost impossible to crush, slice or impale due to its incredibly tough armor. Special Attributes: Despite being a plant… Thing. It is purely carnivorous due to the lack of light in its natural habitat. It is very adaptable, able to survive in almost any climate. It also emits a faint golden glow. Most interestingly, however, are its pheromones, which cause afflicted creatures to receive a constant rush of dopamine as long as they are near it, making it addictive just to be around. The effects of these pheromones linger for around 2 hours. Description: Each segment essentially looks like a bulky, blank coin. The saplings start out as a single segment. But the more nutrients it receives, the more it divides, forming more and more segments. First it expands over the ground, but once it has acquired a few segments, it will also begin to stack on top of itself. If it is well nurtured, they can easily become colossal towers of glowing, coin-like things. LOGI Info: “It might look pretty to you, but Dragon’s Den is one of the most sinister plants on this island. And that says a lot, seeing as we have plants that try to eat you or lead a parasitic childhood.” “Dragon’s Den can be found in caves in pretty much any climate. As their name suggests, they often live together with draconic creatures, for very good reasons, but we’ll get to that later. If they are not found with a draconic creature, then its found with another type of creature. Again, more on that later. It is very common for multiple individuals to be in close proximity to (If not touching) each other if they are in a powerful creature’s territory. Again, more on that, alright, screw it. Let’s make later right now.” “So, as I mentioned, they are sinister. Why? They release pheromones that stimulate the release of dopamine. Why is that sinister? Well, things that give you a release of dopamine are often addictive. And this thing is addictive to be around, which gets us to the dragon part. If you have any experience in this place, you’d know that most big, bad predators in these caves of genetically created organisms are draconic. Well, seeing as everything wants some Dragon’s Den, usually its only the strongest of creatures that gets it, which means that in most cases, it lands in the hands of a draconic creature, such as Drakhaos or Dracarchigos. Kinda funny, isn’t is? Anyway, another thing about addictive things is, the longer you’re exposed, the higher the dose you need for the same amount of pleasure. This basically means that the creature who “owns” the Dragon’s Den will usually kill any nearby intruders and donate whatever part of the corpse it doesn’t eat to the plant, who digests it by exuding several enzymes, similar to the Sundew Plant. The bigger the Dragon’s Den becomes, the more pheromones are released. But still, the addicted creature often wants more. So, the “owner” will usually collect any Dragon’s Dens it comes across and bring it back to its lair. So then there are multiple individuals growing in the same place, releasing more pheromones and making the addicted creature even more addicted. Its a cycle that continues.” “Dragon’s Den is not immune to parasitism, however. There is a sub-species, Dragon’s Treasure (Aka: Dracothisayros aplistio = Greedy Dragon’s Treasure), which is a bit different from its cousin. Dragon’s Treasure consist out of a single segment, unlike Dragon’s Den. They are also more diverse, ranging from the same size as a Dragon’s Den segment to fifty times the size of a Dragon’s Den segment. They also have diverse colouring, which is very similar to the colouring of gemstones, such as emeralds, rubies, diamonds and many more. The biggest difference between the two species, however, is their parasitism. Whilst the Dragon’s Den parasitises on various creatures living in the same caves it does and makes them take care of its own needs, the Dragon’s Treasure parasitises on Dragon’s Den, growing on top of the golden plant and sprouting its roots into its segments. With its roots inside the Dragon’s Den, the Dragon’s Treasure is free to steal the nutrients the larger plant stole. I suppose that’s what they call ‘karma’.” “That’s all we have for Dragon’s Den. If you ever see one, get away from it as soon as possible. The longer you stay, the more difficult it will be to leave, until you turn into a greedy monster who will fight to the death just to claim your right on a parasite.” Other: I swear, I did not intend for this to become GI’s second embodiment of greed, it just kinda happened the longer I worked on it. Also, you might wonder what Dracarchigos is. Well, besides what you get to see in my signature, you’re gonna have to wait. >:P ![]() ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ |
