Well, I had a nice detailed reply in the works, but my phone killed it on me, so here's the abridged version; -I agree with OM that I like a respect their philosophy. However,I am not much sold on the game itself. -To sum the game up, it's like Monster Hunter but in a survival game format and with a player vs player/ war feature. Comparing it against Monster Hunter as an alternative/rival, MH curb-stomps it. -The biggest problem I have with ARK is that the setting does not feel well done. No issue that they're trying to mix together these different genre/ideas/things they like, but they have not in my eyes yet succeeded in marrying them into a single coherent setting. It feels like all the different aspects are still separate, like all the ingredients are together in the bowl but they haven't been mixed together enough to make a cake. -Looking at it as a dinosaur survival game, the creature need to be more accurate for me. I'm on the fence about the guns to, but more because of myself than because I don't think they fit. Generally I don't care for guns anyway, but as I'd understand it the bulk of video game guns are one-hit kills that take no skill beyond aiming and provide little-to-no fun as a result. Compare MHs' bowguns, which actually do take some skill to use, are definitely not one-hit-kills, and actually have some interesting features and niches in the game, all of which makes them fun to use. -The above regarding accurate creature/guns could be solved with modding, I'm aware. But I'm definitely not going to be the one to make said mod, never mind any skill involved in it! Something like Zoo Tycoon or Civ that I can enjoy just as I bought it, and thinking "hey, wouldn't it be cool if I had/could do X?" Is one thing. Having to make a mod to make the game enjoyable in the first place is another. That's what I'm paying the people who made the game for when I buy it. I'm not paying them so I can basically do their job for them. -Quite honestly, between MH out-classing it on the hunting aspect, and it not quite making it as a dinosaur survival, the only thing left that interests me about this game is the so-to-speak "war feature". That I will admit is something that might make me look at buying the game. Of course, that's multi-player though, which actually brings up another good point; does the game have an offline mode, or is it purely online? Games that only work online are frankly downright stupid, especially in cases (like DarkSpore) where the game does have single player in addition to multi-player. Seeing as TSL was online only as I recall, and ARK here I expect is much the same and heavily multi-player oriented, I suspect I already know the answer. Regardless of whether I had wi-fi at home right now or not, I'd have to REALLY like an online-only game to consider buying it. And ARK, sadly, is not appearing to be something I like quite that much. |

Yes, they will have an offline/singleplayer mode. And I agree with DF's second statement about the cake. I'll definitely want some gameplay/lore to see how seamless the genres come together before I make a final decision on the game. And I'll just go ahead and list these here: Heres an FAQ where I found the singleplayer info at: http://steamcommunity.com/app/346110/discu...57600545122958/ And here's a site called ARKaholic, for those that wish to stay updated on progress/updates/announcements: http://arkaholic.com/ |

Well, I'm pleasantly surprised then. Sadly, Steam and my phone don't get along, but if I get a chance I'll try to check that out. |

Animation's a little choppy. Very bouncy, especially on the human run. Here's hoping they get some cool non-dinosaurs in as well. Rauisuchids, Estemmenosuchids, Moschops, etcetera. |

They brought up the animations at one point. Basically that's something they want to fix later, but for now they wanted to get gameplay down first. Which I dig. Gameplay first, cosmetics later. Given that they've given themselves such an extreme deadline -they haven't even been working on it for a year- I feel like it's justifiable. They also plan on trying to represent every major group of prehistoric animal in some shape or another. They've hinted at there being giant turtles, and megalodons and titanoboa are in as well as more standard saber tooth cats and mammoths. Personally I'm hoping to at least see gorgonopsids at some point, and I would expect that if they do that the popularity of dimetrodon would earn it a place in there somewhere too. 30 beasties at launch, and they want 70 by full release in like a year, and there's talk of possibly doing expansions if it ever comes to it. |

Now, generally, I am willing to give it a chance but I don't think I'll see it deserving one, rather like DF. But depending on what creatures they add, that could completely change. Essentially what I'm saying is an Aivukus would make this game for me. |

Species diversity, and even as Clocky mentioned the ancestor of our god-admin, would definitely go a long way towards raising my interest in this game. I'm now actually getting a bit optimistic about how it's going to turn out. |

Here's the current list of confirmed animals:
Looking at the Invertebrate section, should I get this game I will of course go by the new moniker Lord of the Swarm, especially if a certain giant millipede is added I should also mention that each animal possesses a unique ability that makes them useful in survival. Not a lot have been revealed, just that the Smilodon allows more meat from kills and the Anky makes mining easier or something and so on. |

I'm disappointed by the lack of Therizinosaurs, but that actually isn't a bad list at all. I also definitely have to second CS. I do have one concern, though; "Pachycephlasaurus"? |

1. Therizinosaurus is one of the more popular suggestions, but based off their list and some posts the devs have made here and there, I suspect it'll be added at one point 1a. Also apparently the Pteranodon can pick stuff/players up, and it's been hinted that you can strap C4 to Dodos. Air Strikes anyone? 2. Yeah, I copy-pasted the list from the Steam forums that some random member compiled. It was a lot worse grammar-wise, and I edited what I could, but I missed that as I'm sure I did others. |

TBH my biggest issue is not realism (except maybe the Dilo because it is just so overdone at this point), but rather that the animals just do not look real compared to the environment at all. The environment looks fantastic, but then some of the animals look like they are made of plastic. |
