Way to go and jinx things by mentioning the possibility of Giganoto being able to wreck stone in our chat last night, DM. Way. to. go. #BlameDM

Seeing the spotlight video, I'm pretty sure its speed and rage are not going to balance it out that much. I mean, they show it one-shoting an entire section of stone wall AND the Carno standing behind said wall in the same chomp. I'm not entirely against there being something that can break stone, but packing that much power it needs to have a MUCH steeper drawback than what I'm seeing so far.

So, update of what happened over the Fear Evolved event:

Tamed a level 120 spider named Poppy.

Tamed a level 120 Scorpion.

Tamed a level 100 Spino, that happened to be the same color as the rocks it went unconscious as, making it hard to find and earning it the nickname of ninja spino. This in resulted in his actual name becoming Oroku Saki. Unfortunately, DF and Sigma both complained about it not being a TMNT reference. At least Sigma realized his mistake in saying that before I pointed it out to him.

Tamed a level 112 (Or something like that. I'm not sure) Rex named Wendigo. She has since been skeletonified.

Tamed a level 112 Bronto named Terra. Also skeletonified.

And now I can give some mount reviews.

Spider:

Simply put, Araneos are terrible mounts. They are worse then Scorpions in every way (Even having a higher level requirement for the saddle then the Scorpion does) except they have a web attack, which isn't really that good. They eat through food and stamina at an insane rate and are also quite slow. Due to lower damage, they are not only worse in combat than the Scorpions, but also take longer to tranq their victims. Taming them is more of a pain then taming a Scorpion is as well, mostly because of the pelt needed to make bug repellant. One plus side though is that they can be tamed and brought out of caves, where they will just stand still if you have the repellant on.

Giganotosaurus:

Favorite animal? Check. Favorite addition? Check. Favorite mount? Check. Giganotosaurus is just stupidly good. While its stat gains per level are rather small, its base HP and damage are ENORMOUS! 115K base HP and 1.2K base damage to be precise. This thing can take on several Alpha T.rexes and Broodmothers at once. Now, how does it fare once you examine it's drawbacks? Let's see... Oh yeah. It's drawbacks pretty much don't exist. Like the Mosasaur, it isn't actually slow like the dossier says, and the only way you're gonna get its rage to spike to berserker levels is if you would be if you either have it jump down a cliff or mountain or having it tank the hits of another Giganotosaurus. It's stamina isn't great either. But seriously. This thing is the most powerful thing that has ever been released in the game, probably more overpowered then the DodoRex.

That is all, I think.

I do not think the Giga should be tameable in it's current state. 115 base hp is obscene, along with being faster than the rex and roughly 200 times as powerful, it should be a boss battle or natural hazard.

Everyone knew the giga would be beefier and stronger than the rex, but this is obscene and throws any sort of "balance" that this game had out the window. Rexes and spinos are now insanely obsolete. You really only need 3 animals now. Quetz, Giga, and Mosa. Before, the Rex and Bronto were the two heaviest hitting land creatures with Base 60 damage, followed closely by the spino and Anky. The mosasaur and plesio both hit harder than the rex (100 and 75 respectivly), but thats to be expected. There are hazards to the deep and you shouldnt try to dominate it without these beasts.

The giga throws everything on its neck. Not only does it throw primitive servers into chaos, it makes every dino besides itself obsolete, without any sort of competition.

Yep, from what I've seen the Giga is a freaking joke balance-wise. It doesn't just qualify as a boss against players, its equivalent to a boss over the other bosses.

The fact that we yet again have another case of a dossier lying about a creatures relative speed really irks me as well. I honestly had been hoping the Raptor>Carno>Rex speed-power triangle might finally get fixed with the promised upcoming TLC pass, but this sort of thing does not bode well for that happening.

Raptor>Carno>Rex

THe thing is, relative to the body size, that chart is accurate. However, the massive size difference between the 3 makes the rex the speedster of the trio unfortunately.

I get that, but it still hurts the balancing between them and really isn't how the dossiers describe their niches. The only reason to use a Raptor or Carno is because you don't have a Rex.

Well, yesterday was an adventure worth remembering.

You see, I thought it was finally time to take on a certain challenge. Namely the Devourer cave on Death Island. I armored up with my almost full set of ramshackle Flak armor (Just had to use Chitin boots instead of Flak ones). I made a sword, a Ramshackle shotgun and a metal shield as well. Just to make sure I didn't lose anything I really needed, I stored all the important stuff on my character away.

Of course, the best protection in any situation is a mount. So, I decided to take my Raptor with me, as it can jump (Which is needed for portions of the cave), but doesn't have the ridiculously high jump of the Beelzebufo that's pretty much guaranteed to push you against something and make you fall 200 feet, nor does it have the barely-even-a-jump that the Sabertooth and the Dire Wolf have. Unforunately, that meant I was brining my weakest cave mount. Oh well. Surely he would be enough.

So, when I got to the cave, everything was going well. Eventually I fell however, but, although the horde of bats and scorpions waiting below was too fierce to face directly, I managed to get to a spot safe from the scorpions, allowing me to take out the bats.

But then something stupid happened. As I looked over the ledge separating me from the scorpeetah pit, preparing my shotgun to kill them from a distance, somehow something hit me from behind, pushing me into the pit. Trapped between the scorpions, I whistled Xenoraptor to neutral to come help me, but it seemed he was a little busy. So instead I just had to go ham with my shotgun. Despite being attacked by over a dozen scorpions at once and being stuck in a corner, a combination of high fortitude and the manly, manly armor stats of my Flak armor protected me for long enough to shoot my way to freedom and get back on the ledge, away from the couple remaining scorpions. The problem is, now Xenoraptor was int he pit, fighting a couple of scorpions not far away. The ones that had attempted to gang up on me where still trying to get to me instead of Xenoraptor, so I followed up on the original plan and went ham with my broomstick. Although my torpor was still rising, I managed to kill every single one of them and get back to Xenoraptor before I finally fell unconscious. But at least now there was nothing to try and kill me.

when I woke up again, I realised the real problem. As I looked up the stairway that happened to be the only exit, I saw it.

Bats. Many, many bats. Like over 30 of them.

At first, I thought this was gonna be tricky. Luckily, after healing up from everything, I managed to aggro just about half of the bats instead of all of them. But regardless, they still managed to nearly kill Xenoraptor, even forcing me to get off and go all knight-mode on them to make sure Xenoraptor didn't end up dead. Unfortunately, this is where I made a costly mistake. I used all the meat to heal up Xenoraptor.

OF course, pretty much as soon as I did that, I noticed that my own hunger was getting rather low. I had only so much time I could wait for Xenoraptor to get his HP back naturally. So after waiting for a bit, I decided to aggro the remaining bats. A scenario similar to the previous bat horde played out, except that time they killed me.

Determined, I respond and hopped onto Appolyon, taking Nobody with me on my shoulder. On the trip back to the island, the message popped up that Xenoraptor too had been killed by the bat horde. But I was determined to get my hand on that dang artefact! So I went back into the cave, leaving Appolyon at the cave entrance because, you know, he can't swim. Unfortunately, not bringing any form of clothing was a bad idea. So the first pair of bats I encountered got me to near-dead levels of HP before Nobody killed them. The problem was, the top part of the cave is freezing cold. So I froze to death.

Once more, I went back, hopping onto Gigasos to take me there, and getting Skullmunkey to provide shoulder-mounted backup. This time I was intelligent enough to bring my Fur armor to prevent the freezing, as well as making the bats not instagib me. I managed to reunite with Nobody, but it wasn't much longer before I got killed by bats, because monkeys suck as backup fire. Unfortunately, Nobody, while fighting valiantly against a horde of bats, was taken down as well, though he took plenty of them with him.

Being determined as hell, I hopped onto Oroku Saki to get back. This time, I had a better idea then to run in without the protection of a mount. I decided to risk it and go on Gigasos. Suddenly everything worked out perfectly. Gigasos slaughtered all the bats and scorpions that had respawned while I was away. I managed to get back to Skullmunkey as well. Soon, I was carrying 2 artefacts out of the cave (Because I didn't realise I hadn't given one to Skullmunkey). But wait. I had 2 more mounts that could carry more. So I dropped off the artefacts onto Oroku and Appolyon and went back down. With no enemies being alive anymore, it was an easy journey and I soon returned to my base with 5 artefacts extracted straight out of hell itself. I stored 3 artefacts, put one up for display as a trophy, and keep one on me, because as you may remember, the Devourer was all I needed to complete the set...

There was just one more preparation I needed to make. So I hopped on Oroku Saki and collected the Megalodon Teeth, Argentavis Talons, Sauropod Vertebrea and Tyrannosaurus Arms I needed. And now it was time for the ultimate showdown...

*Music starts playing*

Riding out on Cyprectus, I quickly reached my destination. It was time to summon the ultimate adversary. And so, I placed the tribute into the terminal, and summoned the Broodmother.

In a flash, the colossal arachnid appeared! She hesitated not to attacked her new rival, summoning her own children to aid her. However, the smaller spiders where terrified of Cyprectus' colossal stature and dared not attack, instead deciding to watch the battle unfold from a safer distance. This did not seem to bother the Broodmother though, as she continued her charge either way.

The two titans clashed! Biting, scratching and kicking in the hopes of taking their opponent down. A few of the smaller spiders got a little too curious and where crushed as collateral damage. The Broodmothers webs and acidic spray where starting to wear down Cyprectus, but not once did my trusted companion think of retreating, and soon the victor emerged!

Cyprectus unleashed a triumphant roar before tearing off the Broodmother's enormous head to keep as a trophy. Devouring the rest of the corpse, Cyprectus and I returned back to our home to revel in our victory.

So I was just wondering, does anyone knows roughly how difficult and/or user-friendly the ARK Dev Kit is? Come on, we've all been thinking about this for nearly half a year now despite none of us voicing it. You all know that "IT" has crossed your mind, don't try and deny it.

Really, the only reason I haven't just gone and tried it yet is because the estimated download time of it for me is over two days long. O.O

Also now that the power's back on I'm going to take another shot at SoTF. Wish me a quick and painless death luck! ^_^

I've used it a bit. I've got a pretty good system, and believe me when I say, it's VERY taxing. Relatively user friendly. The map creation system is actually as simple as drag and drop, but it requires a relatively beefy set-up to accomplish anything.

Hmm, I might try it sometime then if I've got time to kill, but that does sound like it might be much for my computer. :fistshake:

*Clears throat*

I did a little bit of taming today.

On the right, we have Shiva. He was the first of the two that I tamed. Though he was only level 12 in the wild, he already rivals, if not exceeds Cyprectus in raw power. He's also gone berserk already and killed me. Oh well. Totally worth it.

Then on the left we have Kali. She was also level 12 when I got to her. While she hasn't gone berserk yet, she DID kill me while I was trying to tame me. So, yeah. Both of my pets have killed me on the day I got them. That can't be a good sign. And yes. I have a male and a female. Which means I got a BREEDING PAIR OF GIGANOTOSAURS IN JUST ONE DAY!

Also, both of them where tamed with the assistance of server member Alon. So now I owe him a baby Giga as well as assistance in taming a Quetz.

So the Troodon looks pretty damn nice for PvP as far as small critters go, what with being an anti-human weapon. The tame method is rather intriguing as well. Poor Dodos.

So the next patch is going to add the Oviraptor and Aquatic Mines, among a few other things. Kind-of interested to see how practical Oviraptor will actually be

Today, I'm going to be takin' these four fine folks into the biggest, meanest dungeon in the Forgotten Realms, and I don't know if they're gonna survive.
...But I'm cool with that.

I'd like to see them make it so that ovi kibble can be made from any egg. Not that a small dinl like an pviraptor will really necesitate a kibble tame, but still. It would make sense thematically.

And unless the mines do absolutely amazing damage, multiple rocket launcher damage, I dont see them being useful. Mpsasaurs and plesios are some of the tankiest normal creatures on the game, and a far better form of transport than the rafts provide.
