Name (of creature): Thanankalia lathrus (Death’s stealthy embrace) Primary diet: Small-medium sized creatures. Habitat: Temperate/Tropical coasts. Height: 40 centimeters Length: 3 meters (10 feet) from head to stinger Weight: 260 kilograms Base DNA: Megalograptus, Cicindela pulchra, Pterygotus, Trap jaw ant Abilities: Can swim at a speed of up to 18 mph. Mandibles can tear through soft tissue with ease, as well as crack weaker armor. Tail ends in a nasty stinger. Second and third pair of walking legs can deliver scratches, but nothing more then that. Fourth pair of walking legs can be used for swatting if necessary. First pair of walking legs can clamp together at such speeds that the force produced reaches about 6.5 tons, enough to punch through almost any armor or bone of even some creatures far larger then itself. Great eyesight can detect even the smallest of movements. Can sense vibrations in the water, sand or ground. Due to it’s relatively flat figure, it can turn very quickly in the water. Weaknesses: Slow and unmanoeuvrable on land, only reaching a top speed of 1 mph on land. It also cannot breathe effectively out of the water, restricting it to staying on land for around 1 and a half hours at a time. Due to the placement of its eyes, it cannot see anything below it, though it can still sense any vibrations caused by creatures below it. Its first pair of walking legs, which are its primary weapons, are designed for killing larger prey items and not very effective against very small (Generally 2 feet or less, depending on the body plan) creatures. Their intelligence is rather limited, leaning more towards the stupid side of the spectrum. While the striking speed of its first pair of walking legs is nothing short of incredible, the speed at which it can prepare for another strike is much slower. It takes roughly 2 full seconds for it to pull them back from a striking position back to the point where they can strike with full power again. Defenses: Tough exoskeleton. Camouflage. Weaponry Special Attributes: Its front pair of walking legs can clamp down with an incredible force for a creature its size, easily capable of killing a creature its own size in one shot, armored or not. The curvature of the spikes on its front pair of walking legs is such that they can easily be extracted while simultaneously preparing for another strike. It is a professional ambush predator, and it is rare to see them swimming around rather then hiding half-buried in the sand. Description: It has the basic body plan of a Megalograptus, except it has only 7 spikes on its enlarged walking legs. The spikes as well as the legs are far more robust then those of Megalograptus to assist in absorbing the massive impacts they are commonly subjected to. What would otherwise be the front pair of walking legs has been replaced with a pair of Tiger Beetle mandibles, and its second and third pair of walking legs are those of a Pterygotus. It also lacks the crescent shapes at the end of its tail, instead having fin-like plates running down he flanks of the tail. Its coloration is perfect for blending in with the sandy ocean floor. LOGI Info: “Have you ever heard the story of the swimmer and the Thanankalia? Once upon a time… That’s it. That’s how long it took for the Thanankalia to kill the swimmer.” “Hiding around temperate and tropical coasts, Thanankalia are deadly predators, despite their rather puny size compared to some of the island’s other fauna. They are amphibious to some extent, able to climb onto land for short periods of time to scavenge any corpses that might have washed up on the beach. Due to their small size, they would make for an easy snack to some of the other coastal predators. However, they have acquired a method to avoid predation almost completely. Rather then actively seeking prey, they spend most of their time sitting still, half buried within the sand. At this point, they are nearly invisible. Any creature that comes too close, assuming it is of appropriate size, will be in for a world of pain.” “As you might have noticed, these things have huge spikes on what most would call their arms, which are actually just a pair of highly specialised legs. As the longest of these spikes are over 2 feet long, one can imagine that they would deal tremendous damage to anything that got impaled by them. But you would be mistaken. Why? Because “tremendous damage” is an understatement. In addition to the length of the spikes, these legs carry incredible power. Although the Thanankalia weighs only a little over a quarter of a ton, the force at which these legs can strike is over 6 full tons!” “With such an incredible amount of power, Thanankalia have a very wide range of prey items. Common prey items for them include creatures such as Thaeralgsk and male Loxofoni. However, they are capable of taking down far larger prey. There was an account where a young Cyprectus of a length of at least 40 feet was killed by a Thanankalia thanks to one well placed blow to the youngster’s skull. There has also been a report of a rogue Sharkguana being killed by one of these creatures, but it is suspected that if the report is even valid, it might have been a teenage Sharkguana rather then an adult.” “Thanankalia almost never get into fights, as the average confrontation between one and another creature results in the non-Thanankalian creature being ambushed and killed by a single blow. As a result, their fighting style is a difficult one to study. However, from my few observations, it seems they prefer to remain evasive. They circle around their opponents, relying on their armor and swift movements to keep them safe. Once they see an opportunity to strike, they clamp their raptorial legs around their opponents head, neck or torso. If their opponent somehow survives, then their next action is one of two. If their spikes have a solid grip on their opponent, they will begin to feed, using their powerful mandibles to shred their opponents flesh into bite-sized pieces. If their grip is weak, they will instead let go and go back to circling, looking for a chance to finish the fight. In case they themselves are caught hold of, they will sting with their tails, swat with their paddles and scratch with their second and third pair of legs, all it an attempt to break free.” “Essentially, while they might not be quite as large as some of the coasts other killers, Thanankalia are just as deadly. So remember, don’t be that swimmer from the story I told you at the beginning.” ~David Gordon Other: Be thankful that this thing is so small. If it where bigger, well… You might have to start worrying about your titans getting one shot… Also, I'm pretty sure this is the first and only eurypterid creature we have so far. Shame on us, that it took over 6 years for something like this to be made. ![]() ![]() Just to be clear, not using my coupon on this. |

Only thing I see is that it really should have some sort of height listed, even if it is rather thin. |

I doubt it. Eagles can punch through the skulls of far larger animals with their talons. And the spikes of this thing are far more robustly build then the claws of an eagle. They are reinforced for the sole purpose of withstanding such impacts. |

An eagle's talons are also much shorter. This thing's spines are probably twice as long as an eagle's claw would be at the same width, and I'm pretty sure their relative straightness would make them more prone to snapping under pressure. Eagle's claws are built for withstanding impacts, too, so I don't see how that matters. |

Yes, I can see where Flish is coming from. For the sort of stresses they'd be put under, the way they are now (longer and straight) would be very prone to them breaking. Something fleshy wouldn't be too bad, but add some armor/resistance and it's another story. EDIT: Well, the way they were I guess, since you've updated it now. I had opened up the page eariler and missed your recent post.
