WARNING: This profile is long. I may have gone a bit overboard when designing this tag team.

Name of tag team: Pirates
Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image / Posted Image

Species name: Thallasarpagus ferox (Fierce sea pillager) (AKA: Sea Scourge)

Height: Males average around 2.6 meters (8’6). Females tend to be a bit shorter at 2.4 meters (7’11).
Length: Tails tend to be around 1 meter (3’4) long.

Weight: Males average around 230 kg (507 lbs), while females average around 160 kg (352 lbs).

Number in Pack: 3

Habitat: Nomadic in nature, though they prefer to stay near warmer, coastal waters.
Primary Diet: Small fish. Though they will eat larger prey if they can get their hands on it.

Thermoregulation: Endothermic
Temperament: Varied. Typically depends on their circumstances.

Base DNA:
Pacific Octopus, Bonobo, Great White Shark, American Green Tree Frog

Abilities:

  • Fully amphibious, capable of breathing air and water.
  • Formidable jumpers, capable of leaping 16 feet straight up and 30 feet across, running start or not.
  • Good climbers.
  • Top speed of 20 mph on land and 13 mph in water.
  • Excellent stamina.
  • Tough immune system lets them shrug off minor toxins and diseases while more significant ones take about twice as long to have their effects take place in any notable form.
  • Facial tentacles can be used for grasping objects.
  • Sharp slicing teeth.
  • Nightvision.
Weaknesses:

  • Poor sense of smell.
  • Skin has to remain wet or they will dry out.
  • The material of their weapons is quite vulnerable to extreme temperatures, such as fire, and will return to its semi-liquid form even after relatively brief exposure to such heat.
  • Lacking in forms of chemical weaponry.
Defenses:

  • Numbers.
  • Weaponry.
  • Brains.
Special Attributes:

  • Incredibly intelligent, enough so to make weapons and tools.
Description:
Sea Scourges are humanoid in shape, with smooth skin. They posses shark-like tails and their heads resemble an octopus with 5 tentacles. These tentacles conceal their lipless primate-like jaws, which contain great white shark teeth. Their legs are somewhat frog-like, as are their hands and feet. The rough lives Sea Scourges live tends to leave them full of scars. Soon after a Sea Scourge becomes a captain, they begin to develop dark, mask-like patches around their eyes. There is slight sexual dimorphism in the species, with males being slightly larger and more muscular, with broader shoulders on average, while the females are shorter and posses wider hips and a small pair of breasts.

Species name: Dentroschedia gigas (Giant tree raft) (AKA: Arbor Transporter)

Height: 15 meters (49 feet) on average.
Length: 18 meters (59 feet) on average.
Width: 7 meters (23 feet) on average,

Weight: 140 tonnes (154 short tons) on average.

Habitat: No preferred habitat. They live wherever their riders take them.
Primary Diet: Plankton

Thermoregulation: Ectothermic (Gigantotherm)
Temperament: Passive as can be.

Base DNA:
Edible-nest swiftlet, Oak tree, Pistol shrimp, Gold-lipped oyster

Abilities:

  • Intelligent enough to be taught simple commands, such as extending/retracting its sails or firing its weaponry.
  • It has a single horn on its head. This horn is connected by a joint and can thus twist around freely.
  • It has a top swimming speed of 6 mph. If its sail catches a good wind, it can move at a speed of up to 9 mph.
  • Jaws can close with an enormously powerful force of 110 tonnes. (This rarely comes into play, however, as they will not actively try to gulp down or bite anything of somewhat significant size. Anything large enough to be classified as megafauna tends to be safe, unless it gets very unlucky)
Weaknesses:

  • Very slow.
  • Though it is not stupid, for some strange reason, it tends not to act much by itself. If there is nothing commanding it, it will mostly just drift around, gulping down any food it comes across. As a result, they are almost entirely dependent on being commanded by other creatures to survive. (Battle is lost if the Sea Scourges are defeated, as the Transporter doesn't fight on its own)
  • As it is almost entirely covered in wood, it has next to no flexibility, only capable of moving in the few joints it has.
  • It can only snap its pincers once each every 4 seconds, and it takes 8 seconds for the cannons to be reloaded.
  • Cannons have limited ammo (8 projectiles per side).
Defenses:

  • Thick wooden exoskeleton.
  • Incredibly durable.
  • Its riders and the weapons they operate.
Special Attributes:

  • It is easily commanded. By merely moving its horn forward, to the left, to the right or backwards it will swim forward, turn left, turn right or halt respectively, with the speed of its actions depending on how far the horn is moved from its usual position. Similarly, it will comply with any living creature trying to rotate its claws or cannons a certain way and will fire them if it is struck hard enough (It will only fire with the claw/cannon struck. It will not fire with all of them if unless all are struck. Also note that the force required is far, far below the force it takes to damage it. That said, the reflex will also trigger from a damaging amount of force.).
  • It possesses four chambers within its body where it produces hefty, cannonball-like projectiles. To produce the projectiles, the majority of the chamber is first lined with a layer of nacre before being filled with a semiliquid similar to the saliva of the edible nest swiftlet. Once filled, the remaining gap is sealed with more nacre. Once the semiliquid has hardened, the resulting “cannonball” is transported to a larger holding chamber. These holding chambers can contain up to 8 cannonballs and it has 2 of them in total (One on each side of its body). This process takes around 5 days to complete per cannonball and, curiously, does not entirely stop when its holding chambers are full, as the hardening semiliquid is still produced. However, instead of being used to fill the cannonballs, it is simply spit out instead in a large, blob-like ball.
  • It has a total of 4 cannon like nozzles on its body. These can rotate 45 degrees up, down and to the sides. These can fire the cannonballs stored within the Transporter at high velocities, with an effective range of up to 90 feet.
  • It has two huge pistol shrimp claws on its body. These claws can create cavitation bubbles when they snap shut, allowing it to attack underwater opponents from range.
  • They have a large gas bladder that keeps them permanently afloat.
Description:
A huge creature, somewhat reminiscent of a ship. It is almost entirely covered in wood. It has a large head, with thick vines handing off its lower jaw and a single horn on top. It has two large pistol shrimp claws near its front and a total of four cannon-like extensions near its back. Four solid, wood covered flippers are present on the opposite side of its head. Out of its back protrudes a tree-like trunk. On the sides of this trunk are two large, foldable fins that, when extended, form a sort of sail. At the top of the trunk is a bony platform lined with spikes that serve as a bit of a railing. From this “crows nest” hangs a vine commonly used by creatures to climb on.

LOGI Info:
“Genome Incorporated has made plenty of odd creatures for their own twisted reasons. Some, iron covered juggernauts with cannons strapped to their bodies, others sinister dragons, spewing toxic gasses that drive others to madness. And then there’s the creatures that are basically classic pirates.”

“Sea Scourges live their lives in the sea and around the coasts of Genome Island. They typically form groups known as “fleets”, which also include any Arbor Transporters they manage to claim. Theses fleets are highly organised, with one leading individual known as the “captain”. The captain’s word is law, though captains that are too harsh and strict tend to find their fleet turning on them sooner or later. That said, captains that aren’t harsh or strict enough get very little respect and often receive a similar fate. A good captain makes sure that their fleet consists of disciplined individuals, though not cruelly so.”

“A key part of the fleet are the living ships called Arbor Transporters. These massive creatures are not only easy to control, but also extremely unappealing prey, allowing Sea Scourges that use them for transport to travel across the seas and rivers, having little to fear from the predators of the water. As an added bonus, the Arbor Transporters posses powerful weaponry that the Sea Scourges can use to shoot down their enemies. Sea Scourges are not the only species that utilises Arbor Transporters, but their marine habitat and raiding nature means they are more commonly seen with them than other creatures.”

“Another useful trait of the Arbor Transporters is the special semiliquid substance they spew out every once in a while. As the ocean is rather devoid of good materials to make weaponry, clever Sea Scourges have learned to mold this blob-like mass into the rough shape of a weapon or a tool before further refining the shape once it hardens after a few hours, often using stone tools for that purpose. The hardened semiliquid, although not quite as hard as stone, is lighter and much more flexible, having similar flexibility to metals like steel, making it more effective for the use of weapons than ordinary stone. As a result, these weapons, time consuming as it is to make them, are highly sought after by Sea Scourges, and especially by other intelligent creatures of the mainland.”

"Given the rather limited resources of the ocean, and the Sea Scourges' inability to travel far from water, they get many of their more landlocked resources by raiding coast-side tribes, as well as those living near rivers. They come and go with lightning speed, taking any valuables they find for themselves, slaughtering those who get in their way, sometimes even taking the bodies to feed on. Yet, in spite of this marauding lifestyle, they are not beyond using peaceful measures and have been known to team up with other species, making for natural allies to other intelligent amphibious creatures. Their language consists mostly of guttural sounds, with some clicks thrown in here and there. But when attempting communication with other creatures, they typically use very basic gestures instead.”

“Sea Scourges do not have a mating season, instead mating whenever they feel like it. The Arbor Transporters release a batch of pollen once a year during spring. If these pollen reach another Transporter, they release a small batch of seeds soon afterwards. A decently sized fleet will typically take care to protect at least one such seed in case their numbers grow too large for the amount of Transporters they have.”

“When fighting, Sea Scourges are vicious, using their deadly weaponry to their advantage. Though often quite brutish towards opponents they think they can overwhelm, they can think of complex tactics to overcome opponents that aren’t so easily defeated, typically involving deception. They can locate chinks in their opponent’s armor, as well as switch weaponry according to their current situation. Different individuals tend to prefer different weapons, though nearly all carry a basic melee weapon like a dagger or a shortsword at all times. Though their jaws are adequate weapons, most Sea Scourges only really bite when grappling thier foes, or when put into desperate situations. When fighting against larger creatures, tightly grouped opponents, or settlements, they tend to resort to their siege weapons, the Arbor Transporters, using their cannons to deal devastating damage, though they tend to conserve the cannonballs as much as possible, especially against smaller creatures. The Arbor Transporters can still be used as a mobile platform, however, and can be a strong defensive obstacle to overcome, even if it doesn’t really fight much by itself."

“This, more or less, is the pirate’s life on the sea. Tune in next time for more interesting facts of the island’s, errr… “wildlife”.” ~David Gordon

Fleet member:

Captain Morek (Morek for short):
Posted Image
Sex: Male
Height: 2.7 meters (8'10)
Length: Tail is 1.2 meters (4 feet) long.
Weight: 254 kg (559 lbs)
Role: Captain
Arsenal: Falchion, buckler, daggers (x2)
Unique characteristics:

  • He has an utter hatred for Sirens and anything that reminds him of them.
Unique weaknesses:

  • The safety of his crew comes first, and he can be made to act irrationally if they are threatened.
Appearance: A purple, scar covered Sea Scourge, Captain Morek possesses the dark markings signature of a Sea Scourge captain. He has six small horns, three on each side.

Strict, tough, not one to make empty threats. These are just some of the words used to describe Genome Island's most feared captain. Once a bit of a lone wolf, Morek eventually found himself recruited into the fleet of another Sea Scourge, named Captain Bertha, where he met Sasha. But Bertha turned out to be an abusive captain, dishing out disproportional punishments for small blunders. So Morek left, taking Bertha’s life as well as half of her fleet on the way out.

Captain Morek became the most feared Sea Scourge on all of Genome Island, ever expanding his fleet, until his luck started taking a turn for the worse. He lost much of his fleet when it was attacked by a coalition of Sirens, and the following two years didn’t go much better for him, leaving him only with Sasha, Gal Gore and Kar’Thulun as his fleet. Yet this has not slowed him down, as he and his fleet continues going on raids regularly, sneaking up close to their targets before overwhelming them with the element of surprise, taking what they need before swiftly making their leave.

When worst comes to worst and battle begins, Captain Morek will freely throw himself into the line of fire, using his buckler to keep himself safe and his falchion to cut down his opponents, all the while formulating a plan to overcome the enemy’s offenses or get past their defenses.

Sasha:
Posted Image
Sex: Male
Height: 3 meters (9'10)
Length: Tail is 1.4 meters (4’7) long.
Weight: 423 kg (932 lbs)
Role: First mate
Arsenal: Harpoon (x4), daggers (x2)
Unique characteristics:

  • Quite strong for his size.
  • Great throwing arm.
Unique weaknesses:

  • Sasha has developed a trauma of whip-like weapons and objects. The sight of such a thing is enough to make him feel uneasy, while being struck full force by one is enough to send him over the edge, turning him from a fierce fighter into a cowardly puppy. Typically the only thing that can snap him out of this state is a few minute of steeling his resolve, or seeing his fellow fleet members in serious danger.
Appearance: A large, bulky red Sea Scourge. His back is covered in the scars he got from Captain Bertha’s punishments.

Though intimidating in build and stature, Sasha is kind and compassionate in nature. He prefers using diplomacy to deal with other intelligent creatures instead of violence, using simple hand gestures to at least attempt to communicate with them. However he still recognises the importance of raiding to their lifestyle.

Sasha spent several miserable years as a member of Captain Bertha's crew, with each mistake he made resulting in another permanent mark on his body and each attempt to escape thwarted by Bertha's lackeys. Thus when Morek's rebellion saw the end to Captain Bertha, the new captain gained Sasha's eternal loyalty. From there on out, nothing, save from death, could part the duo from each other.

When, in spite of Sasha's best efforts, a fight breaks out, he prefers to keep his distance, manning Kar'Thulun's cannons and throwing harpoons to deal devastating damage from afar. But he is far from a coward, and if he notices his allies are in need of assistance, he will not hesitate to use his harpoons in melee. In case Captain Morek is ever taken out of a fight, Sasha will quickly take over the position of command in his captain's absence to keep the fleet going strong.

Gal Gore (Gal for short):
Posted Image
Sex: Female
Height: 2.3 meters (7'7)
Length: Tail is 1.1 meters (3’7) in length.
Weight: 145 kg (319 lbs)
Role: Bloodthirsty sociopath
Arsenal: Greataxe, dagger
Unique characteristics:

  • Highly desensitised to pain. Minor wounds seem to please her more than hurt her.
Unique weaknesses:

  • Lacks facial tentacles.
  • Strategises very little by herself unless fighting an opponent she obviously can’t beat with just brute force.
Appearance: A somewhat short, greyish-blue Sea Scourge with a rather long tail. She has a few scars on her, most notably her complete lack of facial tentacles, as courtesy of Captain Morek wanting to teach her some discipline.

The youngest and least mentally stable member of Captain Morek's fleet. Gal Gore has a love for hacking and slashing all of her problems away. She is always the most eager for the next raid and always disappointed when it ends so soon. Yet above her love for violence comes her respect for her comrades, though it wasn't always that way.

Upon joining Captain Morek's crew, Gal Gore knew little in the ways of discipline and mostly just did what she felt like doing, often something violent. When it was clear that his usual punishments weren't having much of an effect, Captain Morek decided to try something a bit harsher, cutting off Gal's facial tentacles, leaving a scar unlike any she had received before. Though her newly taught obedience initially came from fear, the harsh times the fleet went through has since made them grow much closer together.

Always the first to have her weapons drawn, Gal Gore thrives in the front line. Though not as large or strong as her companions, her choice of heavy weaponry generates all the force she needs for her, cleaving through skulls and smashing through armor. When it comes to sheer ferocity, few are a match for her.

Kar'Thulun
Posted Image
Sex: Hermaphrodite
Height: 18 meters (59 feet)
Length: 21 meters (69 feet)
Width: 8 meters (26 feet)
Weight: 210 tonnes (231 short tons)
Role: Battleship

Though not as large as Captain Morek's former pride and glory, Krae'Kahn, Kar'Thulun is the only Arbor Transporter left in his fleet. Yet Kar'Thulun serves their job, having proven itself to be more sturdy than most of its kind. Kar'Thulun has learned the command for halting (A single, short click), raising or lowering its sail fins (A slight chuckling sound) and firing its weapons (A loud moaning sounds that sounds like it would come from a dying emu)

Other: This tag team has been literally over 3 years in the making, and I was never super keen on it until just a few days ago when I decided to actually put in the work to finish it.

Also, I strongly encourage everyone to make use of the Arbor Transporters as more than just "part of the Pirate tag team".

"Come rase the flag of the fallen,
We reign the storm and the seas.
And live our life at the brink of death,
We're pirates, when we are free."

Leaf cutter ants cultivate fungi, feeding it and keeping it free of pests. What the Sea Scourges do isn't much different. They collect Arbor Transporters and beat back anything that tries to harm their Transporters. And the control they exert over it comes not really from taming as much as it does from exploiting natural reflexes.

As for their weaponry, I have already consulted DF on this repeatedly, but other that one specific thing (RIP rope harpoon) he has not told me that any of their weapons are too much. That said, I will still put my best argument forward.

The thing about the difference between iron-age and stone-age weaponry isn't the understanding the people had on how to kill each other. The flint sword is pretty good evidence for that. The difference is the availability of the material. A Cro-Magnon human isn't going to make a sword for combat purposes because they lack the materials to make a sword that can both cut well, as well not break so easily, but they probably get the idea behind how such a thing would function.

Given the intelligence that has previously been allowed for sapients, I find it hard to believe that the Sea Scourges would have no understanding of swords and ESPECIALLY morningstars (Given how similar the concept is to an axe). What separates them is their access to a suitable resource.

Starting with the weaponry since that's probably the quickest thing to get out of the way, my reasoning for allowing it is much the same as what DG has said. The shape and concept of a sword really aren't that advanced, rather the limitation is in the ability to obtain/refine a suitable material such as metal. I'd like to clarify both for DG and others that the swords are still most certainly CRUDE swords, but they are usable swords none-the-less. Given the same materials, an early human -we'll say bronze age- would easily be able to make something far superior in quality.

The animal husbandry is something I would say is a bit more open to debate. How much of it is a symbiotic relationship and traits the creatures were designed with, and how much is intelligence on the part of the Sea Scourges? The Transporter is intentionally designed such that it can be controlled easily, but I would question how effectively the Scourges might actually control it without having a potentially questionable level of intelligence.

Although on the subject of intelligence, I do have other concerns with part of the LOGI.

I think you might be giving the creatures of Genome, Scourges included, just a liiiiiitle too much credit on how advanced they are. Particularly I say this in regard to trading; that is a concept a bit beyond what they're capable of, especially since communication would be problematic.

The Transporter is an integral part of the Sea Scourge's lifestyle. Without it, they are pretty easy prey for predators. Knowledge on how to operate it would be drilled into them, or at least into the first Sea Scourges, after which point, given that they are highly intelligent animals, it's a simple game of "monkey see, monkey do".

An octopus can learn how to open a jar and an orangutan can learn how to pick a lock. It seems reasonable to me that the notably more intelligent Sea Scourge would be able to learn the tricks of getting the Arbor Transporter to do certain things, given how the Transporter is deliberately designed to make learning to control it very easy. Especially seeing that Sea Scourges live their lives on the Transporters, accumulating knowledge that is very likely to be passed on to any other Sea Scourges on the Transporter. With the span of years, it'd be hard for a creature intelligent enough to make an axe not to know the ins and outs of what is basically its house.

In regards to the trading. I figured that might have been pushing it. I've removed the mention of it.

I figured these guys would be getting pretty close. My imagination went a bit overboard. I just tried to keep it within reasonable limits for a bunch of genetically engineered Cthulhu pirates.

Now, if that's out of the way, just so I know how much I need to pay, are the unique features of each of the pack members enough that I need to pay for them as pack caste, or are they close enough that paying for the pack is all that's required?

I was thinking something more along the lines of this.

Also, maybe I just read something wrong, but I'm currently taking issue with the grade of their weapons. While I accept that they are crude swords, I can't help but notice flaws in their creation.
While I haven't actually forged a sword myself, I've done countless hours of research on blacksmithing general weaponmaking and I can guarantee you that there is no physical way for the bare hand to create something nearly sharp enough to be used as a sword. At the most, they would have shields and thin, sword-looking clubs. But they'd be dull. Or maybe they'd have a bumpy ball instead of a morningstar.
On top of that, if the hardened spit is malleable enough to maneuvered with hands, then they most certainly will not function was weapons. On impact, yeah they'd probably do damage, but they'd also bend all out of whack, and probably become blunt if you could even sharpen them in the first place. Then you'd have to take time out of battle to remodel your weapon.
Maybe it hardens over time, but then there's the difficult part. How do you model liquid spit into a weapon? Even if you managed to do it, you'd still run into the problem of it not being sharp.
This is different for simple stone tools such as small daggers and arrowheads, as they were carved from stone and really aren't sharp, they just do damage when applied with enough force. On top of that, we have no historical record of a stone sword of any kind (who would've guess that Minecraft was unrealistic), nor do we have one of a carved iron sword, which would most likely be incredibly ineffective.
Now, assuming that the spit is very similar to steel in its properties, or even bronze, there would be a way to make proper swords, but they would require actual forging. And if a species is capable of forging metal, then I would think it's far beyond our limits for intelligent species, as forging historically coincided with a major boom in civilization, and only happened once permanent settlements were in place (which, these creatures are not). Plus, metalworking would require far more materials than are available to a bunch of monsters on a living ship. ALSO, the heat from the forge alone would probably kill or severely injure the living ship. And where would said sword even be heated, or quenched? The ocean? Because salt water and steel don't really mix well.
While they could also just sort of cast them or something, that would be even worse, as the weapons would just shatter into pieces on impact. Die-casting can withstand pressure, but not sudden impact. I believe Lindybeige covered this in a video on Youtube.
So really, I don't see any feasible way that they could make actually functioning weaponry out of metallic spit.

Maybe it's just the lack of shading, but how exactly are they even holding onto the arbor transporter? are they clinging on? In the picture it looks as if the arbor transporter is two dimensional, and without depth to understand it's actual shape for all we know it's actually super wide and we just can't see that.

@AR: I think you indeed missed something. They do mold the spit by hand while it is in a more semi-liquid state, but, as you said, that'd only get them so far as making a sword-looking club. They do however use stone tools to remove excess material and achieve the sharpness they want after the weapons have hardened. They most certainly cannot mold the spit by hand AFTER it has hardened.

The spit isn't liquid like water or our own spit before it hardens. It's much more jelly-like. It stick together, but is malleable until it hardens.

To create a top-notch, metal sword, yes, forging would be needed. These are not top-notch swords, nor are they metal. Metal is usually found mined from rocks, in its solid state. To get it to be malleable, one needs a lot of heat. After you heat it up with a forge, then you can start molding it into a blade and begin the process of making a sword. The reason why the forge is so important is to make the metal workable. It does not, however, inherantly transfer propoerties needed to make a functional sword, or even a top quality one. The spit is barfed up in a malleable state, getting around the strict need to heat it up. And it stays in this state long enough for the Sea Scourges to mold globs of it into the shape of a sword and then refine it with tools one it is hardened. These swords are most certainly crude, and not sharp enough to make effective use of draw-cutting techniques the way that a metal, man-made sword could.

A stone sword isn't bad because it doesn't require a forge. It's bad because, while it is hard, it has next to no flexibility and is thus likely to break upon impact. The spit does not have the same problem, even after hardening.

@Flish: Yes, my style of drawing has proven itself to be quite incompatible with wide creatures. The Arbor Transporter is quite boat-like in form, with the top of it essentially being a massive wooden platform. That said, I did include width in the profile. :P

Edit: Also added a new weakness to the Sea Scourges, given that it probably should have been there anyway.

See my problem isn't even with the swords, swords are a very simple design, just a thinner club for all intents and purposes. But it is with the specifics of the weapons; a falchion is a far cry from a crudely made protosword, and while a mace would be totally believable, an actual morningstar is beyond what they should be capable of in terms of both logical design and engineering capability.

A falchion really doesn't seem so far-fetched to me. It's basically "Let's make an axe that's less unwieldy". It's hardly as if "axe sword" is a concept that popped up late in human history. The khopesh, for example was in use since near the start of the bronze age. And I think it's safe to say that designing something like the khopesh would require more inventiveness than designing "fat sword".

As for the morningstar, well, I'd be lying if I said I haven't questioned the plausibility of it myself. I'll change it to a more primitive mace.

okay then you have mostly satisfied my bloodlust
though, i still have one major issue
while we have some fat shortswords, they were still used as swords. Falchions, simple as they are, only really 'happened' around the 13th century. While I understand that time isn't really too reliable a factor (evidence being that people still think the earth is flat and the Mesoamericans figured out astronomy way before Rome), I would still think that crusade-era weaponry would be a little bit too advanced for Genome creatures.
And that's ignoring semantics that would reason that naval-based civilizations would probably not develop morningstars and falchions, and probably just adapt old fishing tools, as a lot of weapons are adaptions of tools, or create new weaponry.

Falchion is just the name I decided to use. I could have just as easily called it a machete or a dao. The former is a modern tool while the latter was used well over a thousand years before the medieval falchion. The weapon design is ancient. And even then, Morek's falchion is a rather unrefined version (Note the complete lack of a guard).

As for your second point, I can't claim to ne an expert on how societies decide what pointy sticks to make, but from the way I see it, there does seem to be good reasons for the variety in weaponry they have. Remember that they are raiders. All the more, they are raiders on Genome Island. They are exposed to a variety of weaponised wildlife that provides a vast source of inspiration for weaponry, whether to mimic theirs, of to get past the creature's defenses. Add to that the creatures from which they plunder, who use their own bunch of weaponry. And if there is one thing history has taught us it's that if one society makes a useful weapon, another is likely to steal it.

And let's be real. A mace is a pretty easily concieved weapon for countering armor, which is like literally everywhere on GI. And a falchion is much like a cutlass, in that it's a good slashy weapon for fighting in confined space, which can certainly include an Arbor Transporter full of Sea Scourges.
