Name (of creature): Belspider

Height: 15 feet
Diameter: 6 feet (central disc diameter is 2 feet)

Weight: 125 lbs

Base DNA: Malaysian Shield Mantis, Chimpanzee, Golden Orb Weaver, Superb Lyrebird, Fly Amanita, Death Cap Mushroom, Common Raven, Box Jellyfish, Sea Apple, Cave Swiftlet, Spitting Spider, Golden Dart Frog, Giant Sea Spider, Purple Sea Star

Abilities: Lay down silk, release spores, mimic, sting, expel organs, claw, kick, jump, sense vibrations

Weaknesses: Rather fragile and very light weight for its size. Not very strong, and its central disc is completely vulnerable to attack, though it is not very large.

Defenses: Toxic spores, venom, expel organs, sense vibrations, speed, "palace", attacking, mimicking

Special Attributes: The Belspider's main line of defense is its nest- known as a Golden Palace, this nest is made from thick and tightly packed saliva and silk the belspider produces from its mouth and cloaca. This silk is gold and very strong, being practically unbreakable when just a few strands are stuck together. Mixed within the mucus on the silk are highly toxic spores the Belspider is itself immune to. If breathed in or ingested, these spores quickly begin to cause hallucinations and loss of muscle control. Prolonged exposure of over an hour results in organ failure and death. The Belspider uses these hallucinigenic spores, along with its excellent call mimicking abilities and crude silk "statues" it makes of other creatures to trick the animal into either sticking around until the spores kill it, or killing itself. Each claw on its five legs is also tipped in the same toxin, though more concentrated, and its feeding tentacles also have stinging barbs with the same poison.

Furthermore, the Belspider is very quick and agile- and is known to make new strings to travel across just to avoid or trick prey items. As a last ditch resort, it can vomit non-vital organs such as its gills and part of its intestines onto opponents to make them release their grasp. Its intelligence is also quite great- they can like particular objects and plan strategies very well.

Description: A purple sea star with sea apple feeding tentacles instead of feet on the underside of its disc. instead of arms, it has five, massive mantis legs. It has a cloacal opening on its back which it can spray silk from and organs from, and two large, bulging mantis eyes and a pair of mantis antenna that are often not perfectly symmetrical. Each foot has a pair of hooked claws that allow it to easily hang from silk strands or walk along the top. Hidden beneath its tendrils is a bird's beak, though its jaw muscles are not very strong and it uses its feeding tentacles and claws to masticate its prey.

LOGI Info: Belspiders are not particular on their food. They build a nest, called a Golden Palace, anywhere with enough room. It's usually about 500 feet across with high, bowl-like walls to prevent escape, and only one entrance or exit that the Belspider typically baits with left over food scraps. Above the main bowl, there are often spires and strings the Belspider crawls along and rests on, though it does descend every so often to make crude "sculptures" of animals it its attempting to catch- they are very blobby and only represent a basic shape of the prey animal, but are supposed to lure the prey in its toxin-induced hallucination. These hallucinations are quite pleasant, actually, putting the creature in a relaxed and happy state. Oftentimes, the remains of the Belspider's prey are strewn across the sculptures simply because the Belspider eats its prey where it died. That said, they will often take the skulls- or whatever is closest to a skull in their prey- and "mount" it along the edges of the bowl as decoration.

The inside of the bowl, besides the spires, is designed to seem as comfortable and safe as possible for the prey. while most foliage is picked out by the Belspider to prevent overgrowth, she will usually keep some patches that prey can find sheltering, and she will also make small dens out of silk for them to curl up in as well. She of course uses scraps from previous victims to entice animals to stick around as well, and it is when the animal is dying in a blissful sleep curled up inside the Golden Palace that the Belspider will build "statues" of her prey.

Belspiders are all female. They reproduce parthenogenetically, having a single young that they nurture and care for for many years, teaching it how to hunt. As such, they are slow-breeding and cautious animals, but also make few mistakes once they have their own nest.

The Belspider's whole life, except for the short time they take going to create a new Golden Palace, is spent inside this nest. They get all the moisture they need from rain and their prey, and when they are not hunting, they are fortifying their nest.

Occasionally, belspiders have been known to mimic random noises they hear to try and lure prey in. They can be quite loud if they want to, but normally are not louder than they need to be.

Other: Welcome to my parlor.
