I'm not sure if any of you follow the new truck lines that come out, but all of the new 2010 work trucks (dodge, ford, chevy etc.) have these fucking retarded emissions standards. Here's a prime example of how stupid this is. the new dodge 2500+ trucks have this new thing called a diesel particulate filter (dpf) basically the exhaust dumps into the DPF, which has a very small filter to collect all the particulates (diesel soot) that all diesels emit. then when it gets around 80% clogged with diesel soot, it basically runs the motor at higher temperatures to burn off all the soot just like a self cleaning oven. the problem is if you drive around the city or you dont tow really heavy loads, your dpf will clog the fuck up, and then when it gets to 100% full, the truck ECU makes the truck un-drivable, and you have to get it towed to the dealership so they can "perform a DPF cleaning process" so the only option when your dpf gets 80% clogged is to take it on the highway, open it up and burn off all the soot in the dpf. the previous generation 5.9L cummins had no dpf, and those engines lasted easily over 400,000 miles without any major overhauls to the motor and they had no emissions standards. the new 6.7L cummins with this retarded EPA "Green technology" bullshit DPF shortens engine life, just creates ass loads of problems, and when your DPF is clogged up, your fuel economy is horrible. It's not cummins fault for this DPF technology, its what they were forced to do by the government because of obama's new 2012 emissions standards that he is going to impose. ford and chevy are also having the same issues. america is anti-diesel because when they see diesel soot like this they think diesels are "dirty" ![]() (thats someone running some mods btw, thus the ridiculous amount of smoke) the fact is diesel soot is just like dust and it will fall back down to the ground, and most petrol (gas) engines produce more emissions than diesels not to mention that most pickup trucks equipped with diesel motors have better fuel economy than their gas counterpart, and the only reason diesel is more expensive at the pump is because they don't produce as much as petrol. I just think all this green emissions bullshit is retarded, we already dump shit loads of pollution in the atmosphere, why is the government making diesel pickup trucks which maybe 5-10% of americans drive have to be emissions compliant. I think everyone can agree that most people in america drive a car/sedan/suv of some sort. There's even talk about making off-road diesels such as heavy equipment, cranes, construction equipment, everything has to be green. what is this country coming to Edited by vulkan, Sep 21 2010, 11:05 PM.

Would you sacrifice a little efficiency for a little progress in terms of cleanliness/less pollution? -I'm not saying that method is actually helping or doing anything, just in general. Edited by gatman, Sep 21 2010, 10:51 PM.

They should be focusing their efforts to control pollution elsewhere, now there will be more man-hours spent performing these stupid dpf cleaning procedures, and all these engines they produce will last half as long as the previous generation. it just doesn't make any sense. if nobody knew this already, diesel fuel is a byproduct of the process of making gasoline, so the fact that it's more expensive is ridiculous, as it costs nothing to make. it's like charging more for curd than for milk, makes no sense. emissions should be more strict on gas-burning cars. diesel doesnt even combust in a diesel engine, so how are there any bad emissions? |

Enviromentalists are fucking retarded, i'll leave it at that. There's an easy way to solve it Vulkan, stick to your old truck? Now the government has control over all the Auto industry in America since it bailed out everyone but Ford. The illuminati is going to destroy it, just like everything else, You act like Dodge is a victim to the government when the government owns half the company, LOL. The only victim is Ford they just have to suffer and conform and i bet you they can build a vehicle that can easily pass the emissions and be fine. Who cares anyways, i would never buy a vehicle newer then a 96, fuck their emissions.

if you see pickups dumping smoke like that theres a 90% chance he has aftermarket injectors / new fuel pump / etc. for shit loads of more torque if you see buses, trash trucks, etc they dump smoke because more than likely one of the injectors is bad, and needs to be replaced. |

I was just talking about this one issue with dodge & the new 6.7L cummins, I'm pretty confident that duramax & powerstroke have the same issues to some degree. I'm saying in general, why are they even bothering trying to slap a green tag on this shit when they don't even know remotely anything about diesels. Up until a few years ago, nobody gave a flying fuck about diesel emissions, now that's all everyone cares about, having low emission vehicles. They should focus all this green energy bullshit towards the scrubbers at coal power plants and other major forms of pollution. working towards zero emission diesels which again, about 5% of americans drive won't make any difference, its retarded. As for keeping my old truck, I was looking at getting a new ram 2500/3500 with a cummins & the 6 speed manual tranny that comes with it so I could just keep it for the next 20 years because those motors USED to be the best high-mileage motor in my opinion. I have a friend who has 650,000 miles on a 1990 ram 250 with the 12v 5.9l cummins and he hasnt done anything but replace the injectors every 100k miles and change the oil. Now with all this DPF green emission bullshit, those motors won't last even half as long and I'm stuck looking at some shitty V8 Edited by vulkan, Sep 22 2010, 03:14 PM.

It's a case of legislators regulating something they have no knowledge of. The government has no business getting involved with green car regulations and telling companies what to and what not to produce. |

well as gatman said.. of course sacrifice for progress is exactly what the whole fucking world needs.. and also.. them making more people have to GET PAID to do these things is also what this country needs.. so its hardly even a sacrifice in a sense that it will give more jobs AND cut down on pollution.. not to mention youre neglecting the fact that there is more than just air pollution lol and then again.. why would you even want a truck if youre not going to use it like a truck? small dick? ** i shouldnt have said that since now it makes me look like im kidding which im not.. you really shouldnt buy a truck unless youre going to tow things.. in all honesty Edited by HPT-15, Sep 22 2010, 03:37 PM.
