i decided to try and fix my quadcore that hasnt been working for like a year. i turned it on and it powers up but shows nothing on the screen and just makes a long, continuous beeping noise. what do i need to replace? i can tell you that the hard drive has been wiped clean and nothing is on it. i have the recovery disks to install an OS, but im not sure if this is a problem with the memory i have it...a bad hard drive in it...or something is just hooked up wrong inside. make sure everything is seated in your motherboard properly. i remember the same thing happened to me before and it was because my videocard wasn't pushed all the way in.

also look up your motherboard beep codes and maybe that'll tell you what the problem is: http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm

it's either motherboard or memory, in regards to beeping. Most likely it's the ram......

it also depends on how many beeps too............ reseat everything.....if it still doesn't work, try new ram

from what ive looked up online it seems like it is a RAM problem. only thing is i dont remember if i have 64 bit windows or not so i dont know how much ram to get. motherboard only has 2 slots for ram. maybe ill just get 1 4 gig stick just incase i find out my OS can support 8 g. its more expensive that way tho

Well 32bit supports up to 3, 64bit up to kajillion THE SKY IS THE LIMIT.........but it doesn't matter if you have 3+ gigs on 32-bit bc it will only recognize that much. The idea is to see if the comp is working.... I guarantee you it's the ram........ it MIGHT be the mobo, but I highly doubt it..crappy ram goes bad fast.......

and check if your motherboard even supports up to 8gb, seeings it's a q6600 which was like 3-4 gens ago and a generic motherboard....

on the safe side get like 2gb from somewhere that has a great return policy, if it works, it works.... if not theres another problem a foot

this motherboard is 478 socket while you have a 775 socket processor, and this computer takes ddr memory... wont support your quad... and the fsb is 800mhz on ur mobo while processor is 1066 mhz.

and ur power supply is probably too low. sell that processor or build a comp around it those r ur only options

dude...what

if it was a different socket the cpu wouldn't fit.........it's ddr2 memory as well

are you sure you looked up the right model?

NVidia nForce 630i

That's the motherboard and max supported memory is 4gb prof, 2x2.

(one of these have to be your motherboard)

doesn't matter which one, but the main point is you have to get DDR2-800mhz RAM

Idk where you can pick up memory in retail, but heres something you can get online (pretty expensive):

i also notice you didn't build your comp, why (didnt)don't you try acer support before anything? http://secure3.tx.acer.com/FindSystem/FindSystem.aspx?title=Information

most brand pcs have a 1year warranty no matter what, but its probably too late now

dont buy any ram yet. theres models of your computer with ddr and ddr2 memory. what you should really do is pop open your case and see if you can get an idea of what ur ram is...
