Definitely deserves a 9 due to visuals alone midnight premier was epic in imax.
i thought the general mystery was great visual effects were amazing as well
but so many details pissed me off lol could have been much better still
What details pissed you off?
A lot of people got mad about movie because they were too stupid to understand that the Engineers hated humans due to human creation being a mistake in the first place which is shown in the beginning of the movie.
edit: also the ending was a huge sl@p in the face to everyone who didn't think this would be a prequel, ending definitely also explains the main story of the first Alien.
SPOILER ALERT
well how come the crew members didn't know each other?
some of the crew members were so unprofessional...touching everything, being scared at anything they don't bring weapons into the caves (fuck the fact that its a scientific expedition), they open their helmets...wtf? its an other planet, with a cave made by an intelligence specie
i mean you en hire people to go to a space journey..cmon
i didnt like how easily the girl convinced the pilot to commit suicide... i mean the 3 guys in the ship didnt argue and just were YEAH LETS DO IT there could have been a scene battle to take control of the ship or something
how come the pilot (black dude) didnt tell the girl about his boyfriend killing everybody
also this
These are better than most questions posted on reviews, some dumb ass actually asked how they found the facility so quickly as if there wasn't a giant fucking line of like 10+ shown along the planet.
anyways some crew members did know each other, some were hand picked out of groups to go on the exploration (maybe there wasn't a lot of people that wanted to go millions of miles on some exploration shit who knows) they did bring weapons do you not remember the guy talking about keeping the mission safe and such? Also him opening his helmet was indeed stupid but then again he was more of an explorer than a scientist, but who can honestly say how clouded his judgement and thinking was with the hype of finding the human race creators and the alien planet.
Also she didn't convince him to commit suicide if you remember back in a previous conversation he said he would do whatever it took to stop them from getting back to earth, I can only assume the other 2 pilots also realized that, although yeah a fight might have been cool.
What do you mean how come the pilot didnt tell the girl about his boyfriend killing everyone? You mean the guy who's mask caved in on him? If so the one thing I hated about that scene was how bad their judgement was to open the door for the guy, one of the few things that really bothered me.
and the ship wasn't a perfect circle as shown in that diagram it did have extensive damage done to it from the Prometheus crashing into it, so I'm sure that affected it's weight, etc. And if you remember right it wasn't a perfect circle it had that small piece where there was no part and on each end of the gap where parts of the ship that were bigger in width than the other part of the circle so that could have pulled it down.
yeah the things i disliked were more acting and actions/decisions made by the actors

true i had forgotten but still i thought the scene was poorly done...but thats just my opinion

woops i thought the guy who killed everybody was the one the robot had infected. Ok so the guy who got the acid in the face killed everybody? Im guessing he was infected like the boyfriend was? because he was in the dark mud all this time...?

yeah true but i still think they should have figured they needed to run in the other direction i would have liked it if they were like big rocks or whatever blocking the way...making it impossible, or at least difficult to run in the other directions.
Also something else i didnt like was the guy who sees this alien monster that looks like a snake...and he wants to touch it? reallyyy
Ive been reading forums about the movie as well and ive seen many people not understanding why the robot would infect an humain ...i thought it was obvious...his creator told him ''try harder'' so he did. Also if they had seen the first alien movie they would know the robot didnt care about humain lives and just wanted to get the alien for his ''boss''.
Things i want to make sure i understood correctly (id like your opinion), or things i didnt understand:
Ok so the engineers were running away from something...what was it? im guessing the ''black mud'' had infected some of them and they went nuts like the guy who killed half of the crew? or was it those ''snake'' killing them
also the ''snake'' just killed people right? would he insert an alien into them...im guessing not where is the snake from? the black mud infecting some insect from the planet?
also i liked how they explained the origin of the Alien at the end...
but i remember in the first alien movie.... people find the ship (the same?) and they find an engineer whose stomach was open in the main seat of the ship... but when the space ship crashes the engineer leaves his seat.. So maybe some other engineers arrived later on and tried to fly the ship and got raped by the alien?
Drive 9/10 - easily my favourite movie of 2011, soundtrack was way too good.
just watched it again yesterday couldn't agree more.
? The tree of life? A separation? We need to talk about Kevin? Take Shelter? Tyranosaur? Kill list? Melancholia? Senna? Benda Bilili? Le quattro volte?
+So many more
I fell asleep watching the tree of life.
The avengers was ok. A lot of people overrated it because of the comedy/awesome fight scenes. The plot is completely standard and thus pretty uninteresting.
Also I actually got up and left the theater half way through Drive. The movie was pretty boring to me, mostly because the main character had no... character. Everyone else said they loved it tho.
yeah the things i disliked were more acting and actions/decisions made by the actors

Honestly Michael Fassbender was amazing as David but yeah some of the rest of the acting was iffy, the main girl wasn't that bad though.
anyways

No that guy (the main girl's bf) dies when Vickers burns him with the flame thrower when they're trying to get on the ship and he walks towards her telling her to do it. But honestly I'm not sure how he was infected there seemed to be different ones, the little worm things that David gave to the boyfriend (in that red dot) was the same thing you see the Engineer take in the beginning of the movie, there were a lot of biological weapons throughout the movie.

Guy made a dumb decision, but like I said who knows how their judgement was clouded with everything that was happening.

You could tell throughout the movie that David did things to further gain knowledge of the aliens (the space map scene was insane) but yeah a lot of it was because of what his boss was telling him that's why Vickers freaked out so bad because she knew he'd go to further lengths regardless of the crews' safety.

The Engineers were running away because they realized the weapons they had created were turning on them, hence the reason that room was sealed off, and they all abandoned since there were facilities all over the planet, could have infected some of them who knows regardless the ending shows that the squid thing scared the shit out of the Engineer.

Well you see there was a ship in the beginning that left and I'm sure there were more than that but yes one of the Engineers had probably become infected and as shown at the end that creates the alien.

Shoulda watched the whole thing movie really picked up halfway through, also ryan gosling not really having many lines or much of a character, let alone a name even was for the best probably.
yeah the things i disliked were more acting and actions/decisions made by the actors

anyways thanks for the information
Each installation was a ship so who knows where all the ships went one could have crashed on a planet (didn't say they landed on that planet with the moon) who knows what happened since as shown by the holograms they were in a panic and trying to rush out as soon as possible.

I definitely agree with this part.. I fell asleep during the movie. Only one other movie had that effect on me, and that was tron.
@ thiwy: the snake was a mutation of the worms that were living in the chamber. Them opening the door caused the jars to leak and the liquid to pour out, worms got mutated, snake alien formed, keels.
the alien at the end isn't the first nor the alien from Alien, if you pay attention when they open the door to the "tomb" (room with the big head where fifield & millburn die) there's already a statue of the xenomorph that holloway looks at.
@ wicked & thiwy: fifield turns into a 'zombie' because he fell head first into the acid and layed in a pool of it all night long, Holloway only ingested a drop of it and it still manifested the next day. It's still the same acid, it was just a different amount of it. Holloway would have eventually turned into the same thing as Fifield if mah gurl charlize didn't beast mode him.
it's not the same ship they find in alien, it's not even on the same planet. The acid is just a bioweapon, a mutator of sorts, and it created the xenomorph alien that eventually raped everyone (which I presume is what they're running away from on the hologram).
Also I think David goes deeper than his mission. He takes the jar home even before Guy Pearce oldified (seriously? why? why not just hire an old dude for that?) tells him to try harder and talks of disappointment when Holloway tells him he was built because "they could".
Anyways,
Fifth Element 9/10 Prometheus 8/10 Snow White & The Hunter 6/10 Alien 8/10

Yeah I somewhat figured it was from when his mask caved in on him and he fell into the ground, and I meant it looks like the same type of ship obviously it's not the exact same ship from Alien and the GUy Pearce thing a lot of people ask about but if you watched some of the promo specials they made for this movie there is TED talk one I saw awhile ago that has Guy Pearce as David's Boss (Peter Weyland) so they probably figured since they used him as the younger version why not just make up + wig into the old version.
like i said drive is ok but it really has nothing on most 80's thrillers or michael mann's films like heat and thief and manhunter.

The Cabin in the Woods - 3/10 has a decent concept, but so many flaws in the plot. the movie was ridiculously funny, especially the credits. horror movie? lal
Crazy, Stupid, Love. 7/10 - Thought this movie was great, some really unexpected things happen in this movie. The writing is great, you should see it especially if you are either a Ryan Gosling or Steve Carell fan.
Prometheus 8/10 was good, good acting, good visuals, good ideas. I would probably give it a higher rating if i watched it again
