INCONCIEVEABLE

We Were Soldiers (2002) 10/10 for attempted realism...[Vietnam War]
:SPOILER ALERT:
the movie ended differently than the truth, according to the book
of the same name. In the movie the battle in the Ia Drang (yah drang) Valley seems to end. In reality
a column (a vulnerable formation) is formed to march away and is decimated. That column might have been
the artillery support element. can't remember.

also, crap.

I did. Looks alright.

Saw Evil Dead. Didn't like it too much. Original was more enjoyable to me.

5/10

Waiting patiently for a good horror movie :\

Following is the first pics of the next X-men movie: days of future past,
which is a potential masterpiece for the genre.
following that is that one guy (Django?) in full make up as Electro in the next spider man.

Marvel has done pretty well porting their comics to movies the last 15 years or so.
Spider-man 2 was perfect. Fantastic Four, Ghost rider and spider man 3 were ok or bad.
Iron-man was good. Wolverine was good. Hulk 2 was ok.
The earlier x-men were ok.
X-men: first class was perfect. Avengers was ok. I liked what they did with the heli-carrier.
Thor was ok.

The ulitmate (90s) Marvel comic i know of is called The Infinity Gauntlet, which includes
all of these characters and more. (Thanos was in the teaser at the end of Avengers.)

The Great Gatsby - 10/10 masterpiece of literature and film.
Yes. The Great Gatsby is definitely a 10/10, greatest movie this year thus far. Leonardo and Tobey Maguire had some pretty gay moments. The way they looked at each other in some scenes, you just got the vibe that they wanted to fuck each other on set cameras rolling.

Pain and Game 5/10- fucking weird, even though its a true story this movie got WEIRD and stupid.

Oblivion 6/10 - Just another Tom Cruise movie. It was as if I was a director that vomited a sci-fi movie and added cool graphics and told everyone to see it.

The Iron Man 3 8/10- Classic Marvel movie, best marvel film in awhile in my opinion.

G.I Joe Retaliation 2/10- Painful experience, I ended up arguing with my girlfriend to leave in the middle of the film. This movie is what a five year old would call cool and is the age a person wouldn't be able catch the many story-holes that this fucking retarded ass movie had. Literally there was like 5 people in the theater on the night of its release.

Olympus Has Fallen 6/10- Underrated, an okay movie. Shit was intense and fucking creative at times but blew at certain parts. Could have been better, but entertaining

The Croods 9/10 - On the level with "Despicable me", loved it I ended up debating to see it again. One of my favorite animations.

Oz The Great and Powerful 8/10 - The child in me liked the adventurous storyline of the Oz, I'm sure there could be many reasons to hate it but its a classic. Good family movie.

the place beyond the pines: 8/10

it was a little predictable at times but still very well done

iron man 3: 7/10. another fun comic book movie, but nothing crazy outstanding.

Everyone i've talked to says gatsby is pretty disappointing, but i'll still check it out at some point. It should have tried to stay true to the time era instead of adding modern music to sell tickets. Just another case of pixarification, I suppose.

What is all the hype about Gatsby? It seems everybody is so excited to see it. I don't know if that is because the book was on the middle school / high school reading lists or if it is because it has Leonardo Dicaprio.. (?) The trailers don't spark my attention at all though.

I'd also give Iron Man a 7/10. It was a pretty entertaining movie, but it seemed like it may have been missing something. Mmm. Oz was a 5 IMO. I love Rachel Weisz but for the most part that movie was bad.

I'm really looking forward to Monsters University and Despicable Me 2.

If you're a fan of the comics, Iron Man 3 would have made you very upset. They completely ruined the Mandarin character.

I heard Gatsby was bad. The book was good though.

I don't understand why motherfuckers care if modern music was used. It was a nice touch, no one wants to hear fucking swing music or whatever the fuck they listened to a century ago. Geez, and it wasn't like it was fucking soulja boy. The soundtrack was modern to highlight the paralleling relationships between the lives within that era and our time. Niggas like to party, throw in music that people could bump to. Simple. No one talks about *Spoiler Alert* Nevermind.

Mmm, I haven't read the book or anything but for the most part, I like being immersed in the movie. The soundtrack can obviously be a key ingredient in that. Since I haven't read the book and I've paid no interest to the movie, I don't know from what time period the movie is supposed to portray, but I can really appreciate consistency. Look at O' Brother Where art Thou, for instance, where the soundtrack gives you that feeling of time and location.

Just my personal opinion. I think some modern music can work, like one of the songs that was in Django Unchained, but for the most part I think it makes a movie much better when the soundtrack actually fits the setting. If I'm watching a movie from the 1930's on gangsters and prohibition, I'd like some jazz (I prob can't distinguish the diff between old and new) but it is relevant music.

O'Brother was a good example. The music should be play into the aesthetics of the movie. This is also the kind of view Tarantino takes with his soundtracks. He chose the Rick Ross song largely because it was prominent, proud, and largely out of place, much like the "nigga on a horse" in that scene.

I'm almost positive that Gatsby's sound track was selected more to sell tickets than contribute to the atmosphere, but I haven't seen it yet. Back to Black may have been the most fitting song, and they opted to put beyonce and andre 3000 on it. Winehouse already had the perfect style for this movie. Again, I haven't seen this movie yet and I still hope its good, but I have low expectations now.

why not film it with period cameras and effects then?

That might tie in with quality rather than style. The picture on some of the much older cameras looked pretty shitty IMO. Have you seen Apollo18? I don't know if that is what they were aiming for when they made the movie, but the shakey camera, on top of the poor quality, made that movie obnoxious. In the scenario we're talking, the sound quality would be just fine with older style music. It would really only hurt the movie if your values are different (can't appreciate the style) or if your taste in music is a bit more limited when it comes to the particular type of music.

k now you re missing the point altogether like usual.

the story was expertly woven and the music is irrelevant by comparison. only thing the critics could find to cry about i guess.

Spoiler: click to toggle

edit:
also that is a good point skyson. i forgot about about that. but they sure did. kind of a spoiler though, as if anyone cares.
