^You mean like a joke on how people get them confused? possibly but that is just dumb and way too subtle for the majority of people to get and laugh.

i kind of agree, but at the same time this whole hip ironic 'intellectual' affectation has become so widespread that i don't think it's necessarily a sign of intelligence anymore.

idk. kind of ambivalent re how to feel about it. want to be all celebratory but i also want to be 2 cool 2 celebrate something ultimately meaningless ;_;
True... it's not really directly equated to intelligence but more about just informing oneself about world affairs and staying current. A lot of these people celebrating don't really know/understand the big picture (I am generalizing but I think I am right here).

Just celebrate it for what it is... we caught a war criminal/terrorist who was responsible for orchestrating attacks on innocent people and "justice" has been delivered.

Will this change the dynamics of Al Qaeda? Def not imo.

Regardless, I will admit the sudden onset of renewed patriotism which will most definitely be prevalent in the coming week is great for the moral of the troops.

Obama said it himself...this is not the end, we have more work to do, etc

The sad part is that this is what will win him the election most likely. Showcasing victories like this one while there's a shitload of negative things already happening in our country, of which people won't carry equal weight to this event.

I was watching the news watching the video of how Americans are taking the news.

I personally think it is absolutely disgusting how thousands of people are running around chanting USA because of the apparent claim of someones death.

Also, there hasn't been much evidence of Osama actually being dead, which leaves the possibility of a political stunt.

My two cents..

my friends and i were talking about the recent incident where the pastor burned the Qur'an, and muslims in the middle east were rioting in the streets because of it...then we said something like that would never happen here

I don't think you're generalizing. Making a national festival of bin Laden's death is a polarizing association in my opinion. Chanting "USA" and other displays of 'ironic patriotism' sure to come (fireworks on frat row woohoo) seem like an excuse for certain types to flex nuts and vent some negative energy. I'm not sure if such a symbolic victory better serves our domestic sheep or the bastards for whom bin Laden is now emblazoned in martyrdom... though Obama certainly milked it for the sake of the ballot.
