| Paul George | Jan 27 2013, 02:20 AM Post #678 |
|
The only ways that Miami does not come out of the East. -Rose comes back better than he was and he gels right into what they have been doing with Noah, Boozer, Deng and Butler (most importantly as he is "new" piece that wasnt there when Miami housed Chicago in 2011). Also, any team that plays defense like Chicago will have a shot in every game regardless of whether or not they are full strength. -New York manages to get hot from 3 point range and maintain it for at least 4 games in a 7 game series. (The "At least" because Miami can probably still win games where NY is on fire) Melo has taken it up another level this year and if Smith/Chandler/Felton play well, it will be tough for Miami. -Granger comes back and Paul George doesnt fall off the face of the earth when this happens. Even a shell of Granger (15 ppg) with the same defense/rebounding would give them a shot because they are the only team that can match up with Miami at every position. Also allows Stephenson to go to the bench and provide a spark there that is badly needed. btw its worth mentioning, that I called Paul George becoming a stud when he was drafted. No one plays a better overall offensive and defensive game and he's still developing on both ends. Offensively, just watch him now compared to the beginning of the year and defensively, last year to this year. Amazing |

memphis should have at least let this core wait out the year to see what they could do. short term, ed davis is just gonna sit on the bench and prince/daye won't make up for a lack of rudy gay |

Thank you Jesus. Prince is finally out of Detroit and he took that scrub Daye with him. Cleared some cap space and got Calderon. Dumars hasn't done anything good for the team in recent years but this is positive. |

They've actually won their last 3 games (utah, Okc, NO). Kobe had 39 assists through those games. If he continues to play like that (doubtful because it's kobe afterall) than I could see them making the playoffs as a 7 or 8 seed. |

man hollinger is already looking like a good hire. i have to think that he was involved with getting Gay out. this is simply addition by subtraction. memphis got better with this trade. |

i didnt think the trade was an enormous deal, ed davis will be good along side the other big men in memphis, calderon will help detroit definitely though they still need help with more shooters on the perimeter seemed like all of the teams kind of got something good out of it and was a pretty even trade overall imo Edited by low, Jan 31 2013, 03:25 AM.

toronto got screwed i dont know what youre talking about. they're near the lux tax next year if they pay someone like 2-3 mil iirc they're over featuring a ross/derozan/gay/bargs core. that's maybe a 6 or 7 seed. |

no way they're keeping bargnani, and don't forget they've both kyle lowry to help em out, but i agree with this core they won't win more than 47 or 48 games. but who knows, maybe rudy will finally realize his potential when he's the unquestioned #1 option ;o why would you wish they would have given lowry away? he's younger, better, and cheaper than calderon, who was basically just a very poor man's version of steve nash anyway Edited by connybear, Jan 31 2013, 08:48 AM.

cmon dude. Gay isn't going to have any sort of breakout in Toronto in his 7th season, he already had 23-25% USG in Memphis with much better options around him, and was still nowhere near the player he needed to be to get that usage. Just to give you an idea of how horrible he's been, his best season in memphis was at 55%TS 18/6/2.6 taking 16 shots a game (108 ORTG, 105 DRTG). for your comparison to work, we need to look at players who were in third option roles (technically Gay was taking enough shots to be the second option here but if we look at second options it looks even worse) who later broke out as clearly being first option players all along. off the top of my head i immediately think of Steve Nash and James Harden. let's look at Harden's third season in OKC. 17/5/4 on 66%TS with 21.6 USG%(that's +11TS%...aka absurdly more efficient) taking only 10 shots a game (125 ORTG, 105 DTRG) ...and obviously we all know how good he's doing in Houston now. also worthy mentioning that Gay was playing 9 more minutes than Harden was for worse production (40 vs 31) . it's pretty obvious that Harden could've been doing more. let's look at Nash's 02-03 season with the Mavs because A.) he was taking the highest amount of shots he took while we was with Dallas, and B.) he was clearly established behind both Dirk and Finley since he arrived at Dallas. 17.7/3/7.7 on 58%TS with 24.4% USG (this would be Gay's fourth highest of his career) taking 13.6 shots a game (118 ORTG, 106 DRTG). this is actually the season where Nash had career highs in both FGA, USG, FTA, and PPG. What really stands out to me there, was how Nash was able to scale back basically everything, anchor his team's offense, and still improve his team's offense, 6 of them into the 10 greatest offenses of all time (for comparisons sake Magic had 1) , very clearly establishing Nash having a case for being one of the greatest of all time at offense. obviously these cases are outliers as for them being third options, which is what im trying to point out here con. do you really believe Gay is capable of doing anything remotely close? that right there is Gay's best season and he's taking 16 shots to get 18 points, and he only played 55 games that year. it wouldn't surprise me at all for him to regress back to his mean if he played those last 28 games. speaking to Toronto's season, i doubt they break 35 wins. you'd be a fool to think these Raptors are a near 50 win team. they were a 47 win team when Bosh was their first option, and Gay isn't sniffing Bosh as a first option, and Toronto's supporting cast was better.
