I am awesome.
i dropped the walking dead, i agree completely with opeth about it. not that particular episode but in general but the series itself is madly inconsistent and frustrating

i'm in s3 of boardwalk empire now though, really good show.

that episode was soooooooo BORING! also, there has to be at least one episode that was more 'dark'. considering dropping the show though. i don't know if i want to keep gambling in the hopes of seeing a good episode when i just lose every time i watch.

but back to cosmos, i just watched episode 2. great stuff. i'm going to make a evo simulation/intelligent design game where you can control all kinds of different elements(weather, species, time, environment, element abundance/shortage, etc..) and see how things affect each other.

I disagree with you so hard.
It could be due to my lack of interest in those characters that resulted in little reaction. It could have also been because I found some of that writing to really exaggerated for shock value to the point that it was more fictitious/superficial. I imagine if it seemed more realistic, I'd maybe care more. I can't think of too much right now, but some of the episodes with The Governor had, in my opinion, more of a dark side than this recent episode. For instance, him keeping his zombie daughter locked up in a closet where he talked to her and gave her attention (with a fish tank of heads right next to him, but that was maybe kind of lols too). Also, one episode made it seem like The Governor was about to rape Maggie., which wasn't pleasant. I'm sure there are other things though. And that episode had a strong soap opera feel to it. Ugh.

Anyway,

Everyone simply has different interests and opinions. I'm a fan of TWD and GoT, but honestly, I don't see how everyone claims GoT is the greatest show on television. Very predictable storyline with too much dialogue. The only time serious shit actually goes down is episode 9 of every season.

In response to your last bit,

GoT is so good because of its meticulous storytelling. A show doesn't need shit to happen in every episode in order to be good. But in TWDs case the plot developed really slow in s2/3. I'm mad at myself for watching that show as long as I did tbh.

I stopped watching twd about that time. Forget if it was the end of season 2 or the early ones in season 3. The show just blows, especially in comparison to what it is based on.

Because I like the acting and wanted to see why everyone liked it so much. Jersey Shore? Really?

I never said that's all I think the show is about.

I don't know how a show with millions of viewers and continuously increasing ratings can blow.

Because its mainstream. I wonder the same thing about Big Bang Theory, HIMYM and when it did air.. Jersey Shore was the only thing anyone ever talked about. Something that a large number of people like isn't necessarily good.

It's not necessarily bad either, which you just implied because it's "mainstream"

@ Skyson-> I like that idea about The Walking Dead. I bet you're right.

Truth might have a point though about it being mainstream. That's somewhat the reason I think some shows are inaccurately rated. A generally intelligent group might have a stronger tendency to rate something based off of logic, and thus might give a great show 4 stars, while tons of over-emotional noobs incapable of thought might just instantly throw fives around. Not everybody has strong values (and I mean great writing, cast, creativity, etc..). You can see this as an example in popular music. Disregarding attention span, do you ever hear Dream Theater on the radio? Aesop Rock? People love shitty things for some reason.

e* and yeah, shitty relative to the things i appreciate. bougy bougy pretentious stuck up condescending blabla

I'm just saying that assuming something is bad because of it's popularity is unfair.

I never said that, I was just saying that if something is popular doesn't mean its necessarily good. Another thing too is that The Walking Dead is on AMC which is a lot more accessible than HBO. Here we get AMC with our cable plan, we have to pay an extra $8/mth for HBO which is why Game of Thrones is the most pirated show. It'll probably get cut down this season cause of HBO go even though its not available in Canada yet.

This review on imdb by someone pretty much sums up every reason I dislike this show fairly eloquently.

Its not that magnificent that people praise TWD. People were praising Transformers and Avatar as genius flicks with great dialog and huge character development. So I wasn't surprised when I saw TWD had a 9/10 rating on IMDb before I pressed play on the pilot.

Really, it sucked. I loved the concept, I loved the core and I have been waiting for a zombie TV show for a long time. But lets be real. Lets remove the love we have for the genre and just see TWD for what it is.

Braindead action packed with melodrama. The post apocalyptic intro is the same intro we have seen a lot of times. You know, protagonist wakes up at the hospital without knowing why there are tons of dead bodies out there and no single human being is around (28 days later, Resident Evil is what comes to mind when I see Rick waking up).

And so it carry's on with plot holes, like when Rick rides into Atlanta and the shot of him riding the horse on a empty road into the city while the road that leads out of the city is packed with cars crashed. Yeah, because not even a zombie apocalypse could make Americans disobey the traffic laws, nobody said "hey guys.. maybe we can try the road that leads out of the town since its.. you know, empty?"

In town, he easily strolls around until he rides into a horde of zombies. When they chase him, Rick is suddenly sealed off and has no where to go. Thats good writing.

I could spend an hour writing about the plot holes, but you probably know them by now. Lets talk about the characters. Is anyone developing? It seems Season 2 is all about character development since they have been doing nothing for 4 episodes except from talking about God, looking for Sophia and it seems Darryl is getting some development since he went from racist redneck to botanical poet in a couple of days of the show.

Strange how the group talks about the zombies being attracted by sound and yet Darryl is the badass outsider who is allowed to ride around in that very, very loud HD.

Andrea has been learning how to handle a gun for quite some time now. Obviously the writers made the women of the show useless and almost retarded, since their obligation is to wash clothes and talk about emotions. Sophia tops the uselessness list by being lost for so long, and the way she got lost is another great touch of amazing writing (sarcasm).

Conclusion:

The show is not what you think it is. Remove the love goggles of your eyes, break the show down into separate parts where you look at the writing, the action, the characters and the plot and you will see that it's very badly written and for sure not a masterpiece. Unless you like soap operas, that is. If you enjoy the melodrama of the show, well then you aren't really looking for a post apocalyptic show, you just want Days of our Lives set in an alternate location.

Game of Thrones is so underground and edgy.
Game of thrones appeals to people who like Lord of the Rings and similar fantasy books.

Do you like LoTR? If not I can understand why you wouldn't enjoy GoT. Thing is books like LoTR tend to have endings where the protagonist wins in the end after overwhelming odds and many challenges. Realistically the underdog rarely wins the NCAA tourney and so GoT is appealing because it is more realistic of that setting. GoT is about power and what it does to people and how it can be used. If you read the books you would understand a bit more because you could read what the characters are thinking/reasoning behind their actions. If you just watch for mindless violence and the sex scenes I can see why it wouldn't be your thing.

edit: Btw Game of thrones is a 9.5 on IMDB while TWD is 8.7. Not that ratings like those are really indicative but if you were using one, even that system points to GoT being > TWD.

no doubt GoT > TWD. Im surprised the difference in rating is that little. soREyy Skyson I watch both TWD and GoT but TWD's story is kinda shitty as fuck and no where near when compared to GoT. People would rather watch gossip with hot chicks than watch people slashing zombies' heads off. margeary was soooo hot omg.

wire is pretty good too but i haven't watched much of it. Sherlock was quite nice as well but they come out with like 3 episode seasons every 4 yrs so u lose interest in the big gap.
