I know what it is - Apache Bench with a graphical interface. I was asking you what's scalable about your application. Besides, it has a good deal to do with the application language since every hit is invoking the PHP interpreter. Edited by Btcc22, Sep 27 2011, 10:06 PM.

lol I'm not using Apache niggersauce. + Apache Bench spews a gay log file, not a pretty graph. Apache sure as hell can't handle over a million users/day on the small VPS I'm running. As for scalability, I'm working with MongoDB and it's sharding capabilities. Other than that, there's not too much to brag since truly scalable applications NEED to cut back on a few things I find essential. E.g, notice how Google/Youtube don't give you true total results, and their pagination is not done via an offset - I think Haloindex doesn't need to be as scalable as Youtube, since I'm looking to make a place where people can easily find oldschool shit or look at everything/anything on a single page. And you didn't read my initial post right, get @ blitz.io - not for scalable apps, rather a scalable web server. Edited by HPT--1, Sep 27 2011, 10:13 PM.

I don't know the specs of your VPS but I'm sure Apache and PHP could handle 11.5 requests/sec just fine. You could probably have your site serving thousands of requests/sec (provided the bandwidth is there) with zero compromise. What's the real difference between a scalable app and a scalable webserver exactly? I'd say they go hand in hand. Sure, you have technologies such as Memcached and MongoDB but they're not a lot of good unless you've taken the more forward facing services into account when building your app. I'd rather have a more efficient app and avoid the need to scale in the first place, if it can be helped. You know the adage - don't throw hardware at a software problem. Edited by Btcc22, Sep 27 2011, 10:45 PM.

My current setup handles nearly 100req/sec (improved on a few more things since those benchmarks above). Also simply testing req/sec will not impede on bandwidth (just 14mb for a 100 request/sec test), it's all about how fast the web server processes requests and handles RAM allocation. All these tests were done with all caching turned off, btw. http://blog.martinfjordvald.com/2010/09/12000-requests-per-second-with-nginx-php-and-memcached/ 12,000 requests/second, 6GB RAM 2.8ghz quad core, caching turned on I'm running @ 2GB RAM, 1.8ghz dual core (only 1 core and 512MB for nginx, the rest of minecraft). Scalability usually implies cutting down on unnecessary requests and smart cacheing - basically the idea of "only use the cpu/bandwidth for what you need, cache everything else". So in reality, you can create beautifully scalable applications, but without a scalable server they are pretty much pointless. They do go hand-in-hand, but there is a huge difference between web servers and application programming. Your app == forward facing service, thus scalable apps must take advantage of caching/sharding/etc. Scalable applications are pretty easy to make, thats why I got bored with the web development - then I realized I could improve so much on the server level, so I ran with that and bought my own VPS to test all kinds of web servers. And that adage has nothing to do with the issue at hand, lol. edit: gotta hit up court early tomorrow morning, ttyl babe <3 Edited by HPT--1, Sep 27 2011, 11:12 PM.
