Stop with the Anthony Bennett hate. He's not out of shape and he was probably the closest player in this draft to being a sure thing. If he pans out, you've got a Luol Deng type player with better strength. He was the best frosh in the country on a team that was filled with ball hogs. The whole "draft was weak this year, next year will be amazing" is so dumb. You know what they said about the Kyrie Irving draft? They said Irving would be a marginal starter, Leonard would be nothing special, guys like Valanciunas were unknown, Klay Thompson was a pothead, Kemba was too small, etc. That draft was looked at as being pitiful and look at it now. It's easy to downgrade the talent in a draft when you have almost 3 months to break down and explore every player's weaknesses. In the middle of last season, McLemore was the consensus #1 and by the time the draft rolled around, everyone thought he was a one trick pony/bum with no real future. On the other side, before the college season started it was "Shabazz is the next Kobe, Noel is the next Mutombo, Goodwin kind of resembles a young Jordan, McAdoo can be a top 3 pick since he came back, Alex Poythress a top 3 pick?, etc." Let the damn guys play a college season first. Wiggins is really the only sure thing with Parker and Randle on the next level. After that, no one is close to a sure thing. McAdoo won't be a top pick because he has no position, Bennett was/is twice the player that McAdoo is. Hairston can shoot but he can't go off the dribble. Smart's good though and who knows about Austin, the dude needs to put on serious muscle. Honestly, on UK's current roster, the only players that have stud potential are Randle obviously, Andrew Harrison, and Cauley-Stein. @havock, Derozan has been "practicing" his jumpshot since the end of his rookie season :/. As long as his form is the way it is, I doubt we will see any real improvement. |

I guess at the end of the day you'll never truly know who will be a consistently good player at the next level, there will always be players who were projected to be busts who surprise you and vice versa. McAdoos draft stock severely plummeted and I'm not entirely sure why but he was a projected lottery pick in January or February. I agree that Austin desperately needs to add muscle if he wants to have any longevity in the NBA (he will get drafted initially), he will eventually get to a point where he just can't keep up with some of the premier centers and he'll be sent to the d-league or just cut completely. The dude is rail thin. PJ Hairston is underrated and in my opinion a more consistent shooter and more athletic than former teammate reggie bullock who is with the clippers now, he'll be a solid pick and a great player to come off the bench and score. He just needs to stay out of trouble and change the crowd he associates himself with, he's currently under investigation by the NCAA and he definitely screwed up. Coming back to UK, I guess it's all up in the air but what a great recruiting effort and landing so much talent in Lexington. These kids aren't dumb and know that Coach Cal will get them to the NBA the quickest and unfortunately that's ultimately what they want. I think there should be some sort of regulation and cooperation between the NBA and NCAA, draftees who only spend one or two years in college should be forced to go to the dleague or something for a at least a year..I guess similar to what baseball and the mlb does. I can't bash Calipari for what he's doing though, it's the system thats flawed..he's just working with it. Edited by grinch, Jul 3 2013, 12:16 AM.

josh smith will fit in perfectly with the houstons pick and roll offense. I just hope that there's not too much fight for the ball between him, howard, and harden |

Just getting Dwight doesn't make Houston a title contender. It's not like Asik was average last year. 11p/12r per game on 54% shooting while playing in all 88 games for the Rox. Howard is much better but not enough to take the Rockets from an 8th seed to title contender. I don't even think flipping Dwight and Roy Hibbert would make a team as good as the Pacers title contenders. The fact that Hakeem can "train him" in Houston is an amateur, uninformed comment because Dwight has already worked with Hakeem in the past and he has refused to actually use anything he has been taught. Getting Dwight puts the Rockets in a large group of quality teams like the Warriors, Clippers, Spurs, Thunder, and the Nuggs if they get Ellis. That's also assuming that he stays healthy which is a huge "IF". Also, why would Atlanta want Asik? They just paid Millsap 19m/2y so why would they bench him to get Asik and eat up more dollars? The first round pick is terrible too considering that it would be at the end of the first which is infinitely worse than an early 2nd rounder because of the quality/guaranteed contracts. I just don't see it with Atlanta. They won't want Lin either when they have a better, younger point guard in Teague. Makes no sense for any team with space to waste it this offseason if you're not getting Dwight. Be bad, get a high pick and have space next summer for a better crop. And let's not act like Smith makes any team a contender. I'd take Greg Smith over Josh Smith all things equal for the Rockets. Let's overpay a guy who can't shoot at all to the point where his home fans booed everytime he got the ball open on the perimeter and when he loses position inside, he gives up and settles for these low percentage jumpshots. With Howard, you need guys to spread the floor, which is not Smith's strength. He might increase your team's talent level, but he's too much of a headcase to really help. And he's also not a good fit in a pick and roll offense so I'm not sure where that came from. Good midrange shooters or big guys who can flash to the basket quickly are good fits for a pick and roll. Smith is neither. Howard isn't a good fit in PnR either. The only PnR guy that Houston has is Harden. If you move Asik/Lin/etc, it needs to be to get more bench help. Guys like Garcia and Delfino would do more to help the Rockets than Smith. |

i love when teams get a good player and people like grinch come out of the woodwork saying things like "we" like they've been huge fans of that team for years and years. It's really just highlighted by how you think Josh Smith is a good fit. # of Rocket games you saw last year: 0. You don't know anything about the team in reality, you're just jumping on the bandwagon because they got Howard. |
