Hey i currently have a macbook pro retina(2012) that I'm going to be giving to my sister so I'm looking for a new laptop. Budget is around 1200-1500 dollars but cheaper would be preferred. I'm looking for something that is powerful. I would like be able to run the best games with highest settings as well as video editing with no problems. The macbook while not bad was a let down especially for the price i paid when it came to video editing. It was basically maxed out except with 8gb ram instead of 16. I've been out of the game when it comes to tech so I'm not sure what laptops are recommended these days. I've never been an alienware fanboy but I'm definitely liking the alienware 14. I'd really rather not spend 1500-1700 though(max budget-->over). I would get the 1300 dollar base set along with the 765m graphics and 16 gb ram instead of 8 which comes out to $1549(tax not included). Do you guys know of any laptops that have the same specs but are cheaper. Please respond as soon as possible I need to make a decision this week. Thanks. |

just get something with at least a 760m or higher graphics card and you will have no problems. |

Do think 16 gb of ram would be necessary for a video editor? http://www.dell.com/us/p/alienware-14/pd.aspx#overrides=dkcwg01h:6~GT7652|dkcwg09h:6~GT7652 I'm thinking of getting the build on the left with a 765m. The only thing i don't like is that i can't upgrade the ram past 8 and i5 instead of i7. |

Well if you plan on rendering a lot of stuff then yes more ram is better, as well as making sure you go i7 for those hyperthreads. this is gonna be a pretty... high temperature deal |
