I've bought half a dozen laptops over the last few years and the only brand that ever gave me problems was asus :\ maybe things have changed recently but between the battery/charger/mic/webcam etc. going bad after 3-6 months to the shitty cooling when they advertised quality cooling, asus bl0ws. Panda's right, msi/lenovo* give you the best bang for your buck. The g60/y50 respectively are super solid and that's usually my first recommendation when people are in the market for a casual gaming laptop. If you don't mind lugging around a massive 10+ lb "gaming" laptop and want an alternative to asus ROGs, you should look into sager/clevo laptops. Insanely good value and great cooling at the cost of looking awful and being heavier than average. Also, what trapt said has a lot of truth in it, 2015 is a good time to buy if you haven't bought in already. The new nvidia architecture (fall 2014 / 2nd gen maxwells) is absolutely nuts, it's been the biggest jump in performance between sequential generations in years. I actually just bought a 2014 blade because the price dropped so much after the 2nd gen maxwells came out and proceeded to buy another msi (gs60ghostpro-064), the difference was huge. I'm still keeping the blade to travel with because its beautiful but performance/efficiency wise, the new maxwells (9 series nvidia mobile gpus) are amazing and will be amazing for a long while. __ *I've never bought an acer or gigabyte laptop, they're still relatively new to the laptop scene and it's hard to trust new people xD. |

^good post thank you. I'm still playing the waiting game as of now. Ideally I would love to purchase a laptop with a 970m series gpu. Performance wise there seems to be a huge step up from the 800m series cards. However, as of now the laptops that feature this card (ASUS ROG and MSI) are out of my price range (1499$ is the lowest priced system that features this card). Realistically 1000$ would be my ideal price for a laptop. At this time that price tag would likely land me either a lenovo y50 or acer aspire v17 nitro black edition both of which come with the 860m. Today, MSI released the Apache GS62 which features the brand new 965m and is being sold for (1299$). From what I have heard this card has about a 40-50% increase in performance over the 860m.(I don't know how accurate these numbers actually are) However, it still lags far behind the 970m and 980m. I was hoping with the release of the 965m the price on the 970m would perhaps lower but now it seems it may work against me. Now I should point out that I have nothing against laptops that have the 860m. That card can clearly play most games at solid frame rates with medium to high settings. I just want to give myself more flexibility moving forward since most laptop gpus cannot be replaced. So my question to you guys. What should I do? Should I wait and see what lenovo and asus release later on this year? Perhaps a new laptop series will come out with either the 965m or 970m at a much more affordable price (or current prices will lower)? Should I try and spend the extra few hundred dollars now and get myself the msi apache ge62? Or should I go the more affordable route and purchase a lenovo y50 or acer aspire V17 nitro? Decisions...decisions..All I know is that I'm bored as fuck at night without a computer to game on. If i wait it out I may just go and buy an xbox one to hold me over. Also are the new radeon mobile gpus coming? If so, will they be competitive with the nvidia cards? Edited by Trapt, Jan 14 2015, 05:19 PM.

I would also like to add to my review that the wireless card on here has significantly gotten worse since I've had it. All the other devices in my room are connected perfectly fine but this thing keeps losing connection. It started with me getting really bad lag in CSGO but now I have no internet access at all. I'm plugged into my MacBook right now and using it as a hotspot.

Does yours use the Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 card too? I had the same issue for a while but eventually found a fix. |

I'm keeping my blade to travel with, returning the 2015 gs60, and buying a sager clevo (http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np8652-clevo-p650sg-p-7795.html) to have as my main "home" laptop. Incredible value and apparently this series clevos has a new, significantly lighter (5.5 lbs vs 7+ lbs) chassis and runs cooler than almost all other laptops in the same class. The 9 series GPUs are seriously worth it so my advice would be to save up a bit and buy a new maxwell laptop. Will let you know how the clevo (980M) is when I come back from colorado in Feb ^_^ |

yep, don't really need anything fancy for the bios though imo anyway i haven't had much time to play but I left my laptop on/spectating in league and CSGO for a couple hours while I was at work, some quick notes: http://i.imgur.com/F85HJCe.jpg a couple lbs heavier than my blade (obviously) but not overwhelmingly heavy like I was expecting (asus ROG's) runs cooler than any laptop i've ever owned WITHOUT a cooler (haven't seen gaming temps over ~79c) 1080p csgo on high/2x AA: capped at ~288 fps 1080p league on high: ~81 fps (leagues poorly optimized imo so bad example) I can finally buy a 120/144hz monitor again because this shit has displayport jack xD w e g a m i n b o y s |
