We had a crisis meeting last night with a single topic - Advertising, or lack of it. When we totted up the total of the firm pledges received from our potential advertisers for this May's broadcast we found that we were still Ł2700 short. Long discussion then took place as to the likelihood of making up the shortfall from late placed adverts or any other sources, but the overwhelming feeling of most present was that we would be taking too big a risk without the cash in place and could even bankrupt the station. A vote of the HR main committee members present at the meeting was then taken, with the result that a significant majority voted against going ahead with a broadcast this year. I won't elaborate on who voted for what outcome as I don't want any recriminations or accusations to be bandied about. Suffice to say that it was a carefully considered decision which was made with great reluctance but a realistic stance and only in the best interests of Hastings Rock's survival All is not doom and gloom though as it has been pointed out that Hastings Rock has not broadcast without break in the past and on previous experience there will be renewed enthusiasm and vigour applied to next year - We'll be back, bigger and better than before. *We will be on again in 2010!* Promotion of the station will continue in the meantime. The first event we will be attending with the Hastings Rock stand is the May Day Bike Run. Pop down to Robertson Street on May 4th and say hello - we'll be sharing space with our friends from Norsemen MCC. This station is NOT Hastings Rock, in either it's musical content or its 'community' feel, but it's not a bad way to assist in passing the time til the next broadcast. There is also a forum, only been running a week, but looking for some familiar names to inject some life into the threads that have started. EKR has Hastings Rock connections via some of the presenters inc. Dave Foster, Mark Stafford, Pandora and others. They were sad to hear about the sponsorship problems facing HR this year, and send their best wishes.
