I've just heard the sad news of the loss of John Shotton, who died on Saturday 4th of April 2009. His death is not completely unexpected as he has been in very poor health for a long time now.

John was for many years the moving force behind the Black Horse Festival and last year he oversaw the 20th anniversary event. He was a regular visitor to the Hastings Rock studios and a huge supporter of the station. As editor of his own magazine, Ultimate Alternative, he helped to publicise all things HR. He had a contacts book the envy of many lesser mortals and was on first name terms with many famous musicians. Whilst brushing shoulders with the great and the good, he always had time for the rest of us too!

A big man in many ways, he will be sadly missed by all who had the privilege of meeting him and I feel fortunate to count myself among them, having been a friend now for over 10 years. My condolences go to his family at this very sad time.

There's a new star in the sky now..........
