So, I've been using the computer a lot lately - an hour in the morning for school and as much as two or three in the afternoon writing and on here and one other forum. My dad wants to drastically cut this down - as I do! - so he removed my account from the computer where I have internet access so I have to get my mom to log in so I can use the internet. Therefore, I am quite bored all afternoon!
<_< I think the reason I use the comp so much is because I don't like writing by hand - my arm starts to cramp up; I don't like to read as much anymore because my eyes hurt a lot when I do :(; and my closest geographically friend is ten minutes by car - I only see people for co-op classes and on Sunday. I can't find any other pastimes I enjoy - suggestions in any area mentioned? Computer/boredom/anything at all you think I may benefit from? |

You could explain to your parents that the computer might be good for you. Since you dont get much other contact with people say"This is good for my people skills" Show them the sites and that your not giving out a lot of info. And if it is info, then that we are great ppl to be with. And if they wont let you on then then try reading for like 5 min every hour. Just a little and then raise the amount as you can endure it better. OR if they refuse to let you online say ,Then can you drive over to so and sos house and get her for me. I need someoe to talk to and everyone else is online."They will have to give in to something. Oh andyou could take up something like cross stich. Its not hard at all. Just get the patterns with the ink that marks where the Xs go. it can be fun. Also you can start watching some TV. People, not ppl, net speak is no longer allowed |

Well, I'm one to talk about getting too much computer usage (up until 3 in the morning on average using it!) but I do have a lot of reasons you can give your parent to keep your computer access:
Should they still refuse, you can always read (not the most appealing of suggestions)! I can give you book suggestions! I read a lot so whatever you're into, I'll have a suggestion of sorts. You can also take up some sports. When my parents took away my computer (I eventually got it back since I needed it for school), I joined the hockey team which really filled up my time! |

I know I am considerably old than your mother, and I spend a lot of time here too. Would it help your mother to know that a lot of the 'lessons' that you do here have a lot to do with the 'real world'? That it takes 'real study' to find the answers. The ones that are 'fantasy' related encourage self-expression and imagination. I know that as a mother, I might be more inclined to understand it from that perspective. :) . |

Yeah! You could show her all the great people and show that some people are younger and some people are older but you are gettin better people skills and it shows responsiblity to juggle school, internet, and other stuff. and try to compromise. Be like, for every hour Im online I'll read half that much. and then work the amount up. Does any of this help....probably not, but it makes me feel good **Edited for netspeak.

Maybe you can get your parents to give you an hour,or two every day on the computer. That day, if you only get on for an hour, you could take the hour that you didn't use and use it tomorrow. That way, you could have three hours on the computer tomorrow! You could also tell you're parents talking to people on the net helps with you're typing skills. I have gotten to be a way better typer by being on this site. { I still peck at the keys, but I can type way faster!} |
