Professor AG walked into the classroom and turned to look at her students. They had all taken out their charts and books getting ready for a lesson of problems. She then told them to put their charts away and turn to the section in their books devoted to the history of Arithmancy. "Today class will be fairly short, in that we will be studying the history of what you have been learning in this class so far. Please hold all questions and comments until I'm finished with my lecture." She lifted and piece of chalk to the board and began to write key facts while she spoke, hoping that everyone was at least paying attention, if not taking notes too. "The origin of numerology is unknown, although it has been around for thousands of years. Many different cultures of people recognized the power of numbers including the Egyptians, Chinese, Greeks, Romans and Babylonians. Numerology has been known by different names such as numeromancy or arithomancy, which is probably the prelude to our modern Arithmancy. As taught in this class, it is also been long known that if you find the number value of a word you can then find its true meaning. Numbers have also been involved with measuring time and space for thousands of years. Pythagoras, a Greek philosopher and mathematician from around 500 B.C., was the man who gave us our modern day number system. He didn't write down anything in record form, so therefore we just go by what later philosophers knew of him. He believed in future lives, or more commonly known as the afterlife, and he had a theory that our knowledge would go with us wherever we turned up. Numerology links together time, space, living and non-living matter, and is set up on energy vibrations. It is said that in each life there is a different set of numbers for which we should follow. The stars that construct our astrological signs are based also on a set of numbers that determines a kind of divination by birth date according to certain days of the month. If you look at horoscopes they tell you certain people with compatible signs and also what to look out for in life." When she finished she then put the assignment on the board. Assignment(3 points each): 1. Who gave us our modern day number system? 2. How did we get the information he had from his studies? 3. What four things does Numerology link together? 4. What are astrological signs? 5. What is the origin of Numerology? 6. Name the earliest cultures that were effected by Numerology. 7. What are two other names for numerology? 8. If you find the number value of a word what else can you find? 9. What two things have numbers been involved with measuring? 10.What was Pythagoras's theory on the afterlife? RP(10 points): Ask questions, which I will answer, and add anything to the lesson that you wish. Below I have added an Astrology Chart, which you must list what your sign is and research what you think it says about you. Astrological Signs Aries (Ram): March 21–April 19 Taurus (Bull): April 20–May 20 Gemini (Twins): May 21–June 20 Cancer (Crab): June 21–July 22 Leo (Lion): July 23–Aug. 22 Virgo (Virgin): Aug. 23–Sept. 22 Libra (Scales): Sept. 23–Oct. 22 Scorpio (Scorpion): Oct. 23–Nov. 21 Sagittarius (Archer): Nov. 22–Dec. 21 Capricorn (Goat): Dec. 22–Jan. 19 Aquarius (Water Bearer): Jan. 20–Feb. 18 Pisces (Fish): Feb. 19–March 20 |

Elsbeth Gryffindor Elsbeth ponders the final question, puzzled by a possible second meaning. Tenatively she raises her hand. When Prof. AG, recognises her she asks "Professor do you really think Pythagoras was referring to the afterlife when he said future lives? Or do you think he could have meant re-incarnation, and how some people just seem to 'know things'? Libra The traditional traits of a libran are, diplomatic and urbane, romantic and charming, easygoing and sociable, idealistic and peaceable. On the darker side librans are also indecisive and changeable, gullible and easily influenced, flirtatious and self-indulgent. Libra is the only sign not represented by a human or animal form. Regarded as the most desirable of zodiac types according to modern astrologers, as it represents the zenith of the year. The high point of the seasons when the harvest of all the hard work of the spring is reaped. Librans are the most civilised of the twelve characters of the odiac. They posses elegance, charm and good taste. Gentle, naturally kind, lovers of beauty & harmony in all things and the pleasure that they bring. Impartial judges, librans can stand back and judge fairly, but do not tolerate challenge to their judgement or opinions. One of their flaws is an impatience of criticism and a greed for approval. This being said, their character on the whole, is well balanced and even tempered. Librans are sensitive to the needs of others, and they have an almost psychic understanding of the emotional needs of their companions. It is often said that their friends feel better just by being with them. They loathe cruelty, viciousness, and vulgarity, conflict is abhorent to them. Artistic rather than intellectual, they have good perception and observation and view their own work with the same integrity that they apply to others. In personal relationships they show understanding for other people's views even at their own expense, as they will back down rather than spoil the relationship. Wow, there are an awful lot of contradictions in there, but I can see how it applies to me. I see many sides of my personality and personal feelings here. In short for the most part, it is me. Source. www.astrology.com "Excellent question Elsbeth I think that is a very important fact, and although we can't really know what Pythagoras meant we can draw conclusions. I believe he may just have well meant reincarnation and there are people who have natural instincts and knowledge. For those of us who aren't so sure about reincarnation, we may also believe that it is an afterlife either as a ghost or with a higher being." Great 40 points to Gryffindor!!! |

Spellbook Gryffindor CANCER www.astrology-online.com Traditional cancer traits Emotional and loving Intuitive and imaginative Shrewed and cautious Protective and Sympathetic Dark Side Changeable and moody Over emotional and touchy Clinging and unable to let go. Question: To continue the discussion of the Pythagoras and the afterlife, I truly think after doing some additional reading that he did indeed mean reincarnation for literature states that he believed that the soul of humans could enter plants, animals, and other humans. He felt that all earthly creations were equal. http://www.wsu.edu/~hughesc/quiz_student_responses.htm Excellent 40 points to Gryffindor!!! Very nice addition to the discussion and thanks for you extra research to add. |

Libra-(Sept 23-Oct 22) Smiling, chatting and socializing are all part of the plan today. Even if you're just sitting around the gym, a party will somehow spring up around you. This was the horoscope I got off of gurl.com and I believe it was correct. As soon as I got online all my friends talked to me for a long time. It was like an online party. ALSO Libras, the scales, balance things out. They like order in their lives. I am like this. I hate stress, and I like to find the best solution for htings. QUES- How is astrology sometimes correct and sometimes wrong? Well, for me anyway. I was born on Sept 23 , a cusp, when the sun was moving from sign to sign. How do I know if Im a Libra or a Virgo? I mean I know it has something to do with the time of day I was born but when I entered that in to astrology.com it never would tell me, SO I was born at around 9:30 AM. Which sign am I? Excellent 40 points to Ravenclaw!!! I will do my best to answer you're question later, but I have to go for now. |

samantha malfoy slytherin (i am so sorry this is late, i hope you'll still accept this) 1.Pythagoras, a Greek philosopher and mathematician 2.he never wrote anything down so we we go by what later philosophers knew of him 3.numerology links together time, space, living and non-living matter. 4.The stars that construct our astrological signs are based also on a set of numbers that determines a kind of divination by birth date based on certain days in the month. 5.It is unknown 6.Egyptians, Chinese, Greeks, Romans and Babylonians 7.numeromancy and arithomancy 8.you can find its true meaning 9.time and space 10.He believed in a future life, or after life, and that our knowoledge wolud go with us where ever we went. RP~ I listened intently to the professor's words, understanding what she meant, and taking notes. But I had a question about Pythagoras."So Professor AG,your saying that Pythagoras had no idea, or no belief in weather he would go on to another life, or hte afterworld?" Pisces------ Imaginative and sensitive Compassionate and kind Selfless and unworldly Intuitive and sympathetic On the dark side.... Escapist and idealistic Secretive and vague Weak-willed and easily led yup, that about covers me... Posted Image Excellent 40 points to Slytherin! Pythagoras really didn't know what to expect as far as an afterlife but he believed that knowledge went with the person, like said in the lesson. It's hard for us to know exactly what he believed in, but he seemed to have some sense of there being something more after death. |

Once again I know I'm late, but I just wanted the practise. 1.Pythagoras. 2.From what later philosophers knew of him. 3.Time, space, living and non-living matter. 4.They are a set of numbers that determines a kind of divination by birth date according to certain days of the month. 5.It is unknown, although it has been around for thousands of years. 6.Egyptians, Chinese, Greeks, Romans and Babylonians. 7.Numeromancy and arithomancy. 8.You can then find its true meaning. 9.Time and space. 10.That our knowledge would go with us wherever we turned up. RP: Tenya paused on number nine and thought for a moment before raising her hand. "Um Professor, when you said that number have been used in measuring time and space, do you mean by distance and and what not, or by it's value and meaning?" Pisces (Fish): Feb. 19–March 20 Yours is a personality which is a combination of all the zodiac. You may be gifted musically or artisticly, and creativeness is inherent in you. You are a great empathiser, always knowing how someone else is feeling. This makes you a good councellor and a sensitive lover. You enjoy solitude occasionally and like to get away from it all and be along in order to regain your senses. Yup, that's me alright! Great job 40 points to Slytherin! Measuring in time and space it has to do with value and meaning when dealing with Arithmancy, whereas it may go by distance in a different subject. |
