Chapter 1 Mors Posted Image In a far away town called Lordania, there lived a girl named Mors. She was very outgoing with a special gift to making anyone laugh! With her long, brown, curly hair and dark eyes, she busies herself with the planning’s of a party given in her honor by her parents, for she had just turned 16. In her bedroom, Mors is trying to find the perfect dress for this special occasion. She is faced with the dilemma that none of the dresses she has is good enough. “Now, let’s see, what should I wear?” She pulls out a blue, pastel dress, with spaghetti straps, holds it up to her and stands in front of the mirror. “Oh gross, no!” Sets it down and goes back to the closet and pulls out two more dresses. One is a creamed colored chiffon dress that has an iridescent glow to it and the other, a sea foam green, handkerchief dress. “Mmmm…” she says, as she places each up to her as she looks on. Studying herself in the mirror, her Daidein (Father) comes walking in. “If you ask me, I like the cream colored one the best; it brings out the brightness in your eyes!” He loved his daughter; she was the only one who could make him smile when he had, had a bad day at work. “Do you really think so?” She kept on looking at herself, not sure if he was correct in his choice. “I don’t know?” Turning from side to side, examining every angle possible, she decides on the dress her Father had picked. “I guess you’re right after all! It does show off my best feature! You always did know how to pick out what looks good on me! Thanks Daidein!” She wrapped her arms around his neck and gave him a hug. She often did that, for she adored her Father so. “Mors my dear, come here and sit down. We need to talk.” Her Father had a worried look on his face and motioned for her to sit down next to him. He wasn’t very old, but yet he had aged quickly these past few years. His black hair, now graying at the temples and his eyes didn’t have the glow in them anymore. He took her hands in his and spoke seriously now. “Mors, what I have to say to you may come as a surprise, so let me say what I need to, and then you may speak. Listen carefully, for I will not say this again.” “Alright Daidein, I’ll listen.” She was getting concerned for she never had seen her Father as serious as he was that very night. “I’d like to give you your present now, before the party, here…” He handed her a small package, wrapped in silver paper that glistened as the light from her room hit it. Mors taking it from her Father, wondered what it could be and opened it quickly, for she loved presents. Upon unwrapping it, she held a small, blue velvet box. She opened it and inside was a ring, but not just some ordinary ring, for this ring had a power, a power so strong, that only the person receiving it may wear it, for any other person who got hold of it and placed it on his/her finger would die a painful death. The ring was silver, with ornate faces sculpted all around it and placed on top was a stone of the most unusual color. It took on an appearance of a night’s sky, with sparkling pieces of gem stones incased in it. “Oh Daidein this is exquisite, wherever did you find it?” She took it out and started to put it on her finger when her Father stopped her suddenly. “No! Stop! You must not put it on just yet!” “But why not Daidein?” She looked puzzled, for she couldn’t understand why her Father would not allow her to wear her present. What was the purpose of giving it to her if she couldn’t wear it? She was now truly confused at her Father's outburst. “I’m sorry Mors, but you cannot wear this ring just yet, in time, you will come know its power and its purpose, but for now it must remain hidden and in a safe place. No one must wear this but you, for whosoever places this ring on their finger will die very painfully.” He made it very clear to her that she must obey his wishes. “Alright…I promise, but when will I know when I can put it on?” Placing it back into its box, she opened up her drawer on her night stand and placed it inside carefully and with a key, locked it. “When you were born, you were destined for great things. Your birth signified a promised that was given long ago, that a child born in this country would uphold its Royalty and protect it from the Anorthic. You see my dear; you are blessed with the knowledge of that of a seer. I don’t know if you have experienced any of this, but the ring that I have given you works together with this gift of yours. Together you will help our town rid the beast.” “What does this Anorthic creature look like and how am I, a mere girl, handle such a creature?” Mors was becoming more and more frightened as her Father continued on. “This creature is feared by many, for his power is great. He has the ability to take over ones mind and force them to do unspeakable things. Many have died at the hands of him. Our once peaceful town, now lives in fear of one another for no one has trust in their neighbor, for they all don’t know if the Anorthic has taken their mind or not.” His face looked sad as he spoke. “,Daidein ,I ask you, what does this creature look like?” She pleaded to him to continue. With a heavy sigh he went on to say, “His appearance is gruesome, for he only has one eye and ears that are pointy like an elf, with green skin like a lizard. Rough in texture and a smell of rotting meat. I have heard from some that he has a forked tongue which is poisonous, but that is only hearsay.” He walked over to her dresser and picked up a photo of his daughter when she was just a child. Tears welled up in his eyes, for he knew he may never see her again. Wiping his tears away quickly for he did not want to show his daughter, he placed the picture back down and turned around to face her. “But Daidein …why me? Why am I the one to fight this…this beast?” “Because, as I have said, you were born with a gift, and together with that ring you will be able to rid our town of him, for your powers and that of two others, you will be able to save Lordania.” “Two other powers? What do you mean?” She was confused as well as shocked for all this was becoming more than she could bear. “Yes, there are two other girls who have turned 16 today and they themselves have special gifts. Together, you three will be powerful. Tomorrow morning you must leave and meet these girls at the edge of town. You are to meet at the wishing well, down at the bottom of the hill, you know, by the river where the foot bridge is. From there you will meet the other two girls and go to the Forest of Souls to where the Anorthic lives.” Mors now was dreading this even more. The thought of taking on this creature with only a ring and some said power of a seer didn’t seem to comfort her much. She stood up and pleaded with her Father. “Please don’t make me go! I’m too afraid! What if I don’t return? What if this creature kills me?” Her heart was beating faster for she knew she had no choice but to do what was told of her. She sat there, on the edge of her bed and said nothing more. “I’m sorry, but if you don’t, the fate of Lordania will be lost and all who reside here will be too. As it is, our town has already begun to fade. Haven’t you noticed how dark it has begotten lately the sun is hardly out and the flowers have not blossomed, nor their perfumed scent, it has not filled the air. It’ll only get worse as the days, weeks, even months go by.” He was serious and his eyes had shone a sadness that she had never seen. He walked over to his daughter and kissed her lightly on the forehead. Looking down at her, he smiled and said…”I will leave you alone with your thoughts, but know this; I will always be there to help you. Call to me in your thoughts. If there is the slightest bit of trouble I will know it and will send forces of power to aid you in your quest.” He then turned and quietly left the room, shutting the door behind him. She sat there, thinking about all that was said to her that night. The thought of her party had now vanished for she had other things to think about now. Panthorca Chapter 2 Sitting outside on the grounds of the school, about 2 miles outside of Lordania, Panthorca sits and reads her book. She was a very shy girl with not many friends. She was small in size, not very tall, with Dark thick hair, but her best feature was her loyalty. For no better friendship could be found with any other person, but her. Her eyes, liquid in color, soft, as they looked velvety, and lips that looked like that of a rose in color. Wishing the sun would come out; she wrapped her sweater around her shoulders. The wind had picked up a little and was blowing her pages of her book about making it hard to read. Then she noticed for the first time, the birds. Where have they gone too? Every morning she’d awaken to them singing joyfully, but looking back now, she realized that she hadn’t heard anything from her bedroom window as of late. She looked towards the sky and saw no birds were a flight, only a sky that use to be blue, with white fluffy clouds, which now had changed to a swirl of grayness. She went back to her reading when she was struck with a premonition. She lay there stock-still and listened very carefully. Was this her imagination or could it be that her mind was playing tricks on her. She sat up quickly; her heart running wildly for what she had received was of a blood-curdling scream, and the feeling of life suddenly gone in an instant. Quickly she got up and ran back to her dorm, when a Professor greeted her as she came storming into her room. “Oh! Sorry, I wasn’t expecting anyone to be in here! Is there something wrong?” Trying to catch her breath, she closed the door behind her. “Good afternoon, my name is Professor Mungsford, I teach Mythical Beasts here at Yungsferlong College of the Gifted and yes, there is something wrong, you sensed it didn’t you, thus the reason you are in such distress!” “How-how did you know I was distressed?” This shocked her and she now felt as if this day was not going to be a typical one. “My dear, it is not important how I know, only that I was correct and I am in need of your services.” Professor Mungford was a strange looking woman. Tall in stature and lanky in appearance. She wore a long, mid-calf black dress, with rhinestone buttons down the front. Black rimmed glasses adorned her face, with beady steely blue eyes, that bugged out. Her hands and feet are what surprised Pan, for she never saw such large appendages. Her fingers were long and spindly, while her feet, wearing pointy shoes, reminded her of gondolas. Her pasty skin gave her an appearance of one that is sick, but this was not so, for she was in perfect health. Her hair was neatly drawn back into a bun on top of her head. Making it look like a silken pincushion. Pan was confused. “Services, what services?” She said to herself. Either this lady had confused me with someone else or she is totally out of her mind. She kept her distance as she spoke. “What are you talking about, ‘services’? I don’t understand!” “Of course you don’t, why would you! Your reaction is quite normal. You see dear child, you are at the school for a reason. You are gifted, but none here are as gifted as you. You, Panthorca, are special!” Taking off her glasses, she sat down and crossed her legs. Draping her arms, crossly over her leg, she continued. “Did you or did you not receive a premonition?” “Why, yes, I did! It was most awful, infact; I’m still not over it! But again, how did you know?” Panthorca was curious now, for here is a Professor she knew nothing about, who knows of what she had experienced even before she had said a single word about it. “I was told at the beginning of the school year that we would be getting a student with highly gifted powers and one that could help our town rid us of the…”and she fell quiet and started up again in a whisper… “Anorthic.” “The what? Anor…” she bellowed. “Shhh…not so loud, it’ll hear you. Come closer and I’ll tell you more.” She motioned Pan to move in, with her crooked finger. Professor Mngsford told Pan of the horrors that this creature had brought to their town, and how they prayed for the day when victory would be there’s. “Is it not your birthday today?” She asked calmly. “Why, yes it is, why do you ask?” Pan was even more puzzled. “Because if was told to us, that on your 16th birthday. I was to give you this…” and hands Pan a small gift wrapped box, it too was wrapped in silver paper. Upon receiving it, Pan thanked her, and opened it. It was a small blue velvet box and inside was a ring also. This ring was of the purest gold. Adorned on her ring were sculpted birds and flowers and the stone shone like the sun. Its amber color beamed when light hit it. “Oh my, how beautiful! Where did you ever find such a ring?” “It was given to me by your Father. Seeing how he was not here to give it to you, he entrusted me with it.” A smile seemed to creep across her face as she watched Pan taking it out. “Listen well now, for what I am going to tell you is of the utmost importance. You must pack your things tonight, for tomorrow you will be met by two other girls, all of whose birthday was of this day. You will meet at the wishing well down at the bottom of the hill, from there you will go to the Forest of Souls, that is where the Anorthic resides. May I ask what special gift you possess?” Placing her glasses back onto her face. She sat quizzically as she awaited Panthorcas answer. “Well, from what my Daiden has told me I am gifted with telepathy and that I can also change time if I need too.” Not afraid anymore, she was quite pleased to tell the Professor of her talents. “Hold then!” The Professor shouted, which startled Pan immensely. “Be it as it may, you must be wearing the ring to enhance what natural powers you already possess and only you may wear it. For anyone else, his or her life will be altered drastically. Trust me you will keep this ring safe and well hidden.” The room took on an eerie stillness, not a sound was heard. “I-I promise. You have my word on it.” “Good, then I will leave you, for you have much to do. Good luck to you and your endeavors.” With that she glided across the room to the door and with the ease of her movements, opened it and left, leaving Pan in a most confused state. She went to her closet and placed the box on her shelf, way in the back and behind some old books. Her thoughts were that of what the next few days will bring. Searsha Chapter 3 Lounging on her couch, Searsha reads a book. She lives in the remote area of Lordania in a small brick house with her Father. He wasn’t very old, infact, he looked quite young for his age many would say, but with his illness, it had aged him quite fast and he had lost a lot of weight as well as his strength. In his time, he was a good looking man, very strong and a Flyer in the Lordania Dragon Corp. As Searsha looked at him earlier that morning, all she could see was a shell of a man that he once was, his face was shallow and his cheek bones sunken. His eyes, still blue, but the whites had now turned yellow. Gray was his hair now, no longer the dark brown of his youth, but Searsha could still see him as he was before his illness. Tears welled up in her eyes, but she quickly wiped them off with her hand. “He must not see tears, I must be strong for him!”She had said to herself. Searsha just turned 16 today, but for her, her Father was very ill, and so her special day was spent taking care of him. She was an outgoing girl who loved to dance and to read books. Her long ambition was to become a ballerina, for she loved the way she felt when she danced. The music always seemed to set her free and her heart soared everytime she heard the music. She was an ordinary looking girl. Her brown hair was cut short and sassy. While her green eyes were like liquid jade that twinkled when you looked at them. Although she was well liked in her town, she had no friends, for most of her growing up she had to take care of her Father who was always ill, but this didn’t matter to her, she loved her Father dearly. Yes, there were times where she wished she did have friends. She longed to be amongst her own kind, to laugh and play. To go out and shop like all the other girls do, but her loyalties were set at home and she accepted that fact graciously. Reading quietly as she laid there, she heard her Father faintly call out to her. She quickly got up and walked into his bedroom. It was dark, for the curtains were never drawn and the smell of medicines filled the room with its’ bitter, sour stench. “Yes Daiden, you want me?” She walked towards the bed and sat on the stool that was there. “Come closer Searsha, I need to give you your birthday present, for I fear my time is very near.” He held out his feeble hand for her to take. She held it gently and the bones of his hand could be felt. “Daiden I don’t need a present, besides how could you afford it? We have no money to spend on such stuff!” “I did not buy this, it has been in our family for many years and…”he paused to take a breath, talking lately seemed to tire him quickly. “On your sixteenth birthday I was to give it to you, so here breith la’ sona duit (Happy Birthday).” His gaelic was a bit rusty, but Searsha still could make it out and gave him a kiss on the cheek. She took the silver wrapped box and opened it. Inside she too found a ring, but her band was white gold, made to look like branches of a tree. Her stone was made of Jade, with a carved picture of a tree on it. “Oh thankyou Daiden! Its so lovely! I’ll cherish it always!” She held the ring up and saw that when light hit it, it had tiny pieces of diamond chips incased in its band. “Now Searsha, this is not no ordinary ring mind you, for it holds a power that only you can release. No one should put it on, for if they do then death will certainly befall them. Searsha…” Her Father takes another deep breath before he continues, closes his eyes for a moment and then starts to talk again. “You must hide this ring, put it in a s-safe…place…” his talking started to become strained and his coloring was that of an off yellow haze. “Daiden you need your rest. Please no more talking.” Searsha wipes his forehead off with a wet, cool cloth. She knew he had very little time left, but she kept pushing it aside. Telling herself that it wasn’t true that he would be alright and by tomorrow he’d be up and walking about with her like they use too, but deep down she knew this was not so, and so the hard reality had crept in. “No…I have to tell you more…it’s most important that you hear this. You are a very special girl, in that I mean you have a rare gift. Have you ever notice anything strange about you occurring?” He closed his eyes once more and waited for her reply. “Well, now that you mention it, yes, I have. I wanted something off the top shelf in the kitchen but couldn’t reach it. As I struggled for it, all of a sudden it just came into my hand, as if, as if someone placed it there! Is this the power you are speaking of Daiden?” She sat there looking lovingly at her Father. “Yes Searsha, you have the gift of telekinesis. The ability to move objects by looking at them. Together with the ring, your power will greatly increase. Not only will you be able to move small objects, but objects that are twice your size, but only if you wear the ring! Remember that.” He started to gasp for breath little and held her hand tighter. “Oh Father, please no more talk. You must save what strength you have to get better!” She tucked his hand back under the covers and made sure that his pillows were placed just right under his head. “One more thing, for my time is at its end.” Searsha started to quietly weep and tears streamed down her face. She didn’t want to let go, not now, not on her birthday especially. “Please…you must leave in the morning. There are two other girls who have the same birthday as you and both have been given a special ring too. The three of you will meet by the wishing well and then together you will make your way to the Forest of Souls. The Anorthic lives there, he is the one creature that has begun to destroy our town and its way of life. Soon, Lordania will no longer be and life as we know it will no longer exist here. “But I can’t leave you, not now, you need me Daiden! Who will take care of you when you need your medicines, or prepare your meals? Daiden, can’t you see you need me here? You’re more important to me than this small town!” The tears were coming down her face now; she no longer could control them. “Shhh…don’t cry for me. Searsha…I’m not afraid to go, I’ve dreamt of this for so long. It has been a long time waiting and I wish this to be over. I will be happy; no longer will I feel this pain. A pain that makes me weak and makes me want to die everyday just so that I don’t have to feel it anymore. Be happy for me.” He gave her hand a squeeze and with a wink of his eye, he let her know that it was ok and that he needed to rest. She nodded, and got up quietly. Searsha knew that by morning her Father would be gone and there was nothing she could do to stop it. Walking through the darkened living room, out into the day, she stood there in the doorway looking out onto the countryside. A void had already started and despair, coupled with sadness, crept into her soul. A tear stain left its mark upon her face. THE MEETING Chapter 4 The next day the skies were quite dark and the wind had made it feel like fall instead of mid-summer. Summer had definitely had a new look about it, for even the leaves on the trees had starated to change and what once were beautiful golden yellow mums, were now brown, wilty, petal shreds that adorned the flower beds of Searsha’s garden. Stretching the nights drowiness from her body, she stepped onto the rough wooden floor and made her way to her Father’s bedroom. He appeared to be comfortable and resting soundly, so she leaned down and kissed him gently on the cheek so as to not wake him. She hated to leave him and decided that she would forego this journey and take care of him for as long as he was still around, for he was more important to her than fighting some big old creature. A knock was heard on the door and so Searsha went to see who would be calling so early in the morning. As she opened the door, she found no one standing there. Then an eerie silence had loomed across the land. Not a sound was heard and the dismal skies, like a a thick woolen blanket, laid there, not moving. Searsha’s heart took a sudden drop when an icy breezy came sweeping across her, chilling her to the bone and then as quick as it came, it was gone, but oh, the emptiness it had left. A void so big that loneliness had taken her very heart and she knew then what had happened. Running back into her Father’s bedroom , he laid there, still and unmoving and pale as the moon on a cold winters night. “DAIDEN! Oh, my Daiden, no!” She took his hand, it was still warm, but fading fast. Placing it on her cheek she started to cry. “There is no way out of this dark place.” She thought to herself. “What am I going to do now? No more will I see you or talk with you. Oh, how I will miss you! Sla’n agat daiden (Goodbye Father).” And with those words, she walked out. Upon turning her back, her Fathers body then evaporated and an empty bed was all that was left.. Picking the blue velvet box and what provisions she packed for herself, she looked around her house , with all its memories, for one last time. Sighing she opened the door and walked out to start her new journey. A journey with two other girls her age, who she had never met or seen before. “How am I going to know who they are?” she said to herself. “What if I don’t meet up with them? Will I have to face this Anorthic all by myself?” She started to worry. Walking through the town, it seemed so quiet and empty, almost as if no one lived there anymore. Every once in awhile she’d see eyes peeking through the windows of shops and houses, but no one was on the streets, they were barren. She remembered how life was in Lordania. The streets would be filled with people and children, shopping for things they needed. Tradesmen and all different kinds of markets filled the town, selling their wears and goods, but not anymore. Now the streets were empty as if life had stopped for good. The cobble stone streets, dusty with the red clay dirt , left her footprints as she walked down the hill towards the wishing well. As she neared it, she saw in the distance, two other girls approaching, one coming from the West and the other coming from the East. She quicken her pace. Finally meeting them, they all stood there looking at one another and not speaking. An awkward silence laid there. Mors couldn’t stand the silence anymore and spoke first. “Maidin mhaith…cad is ainm duit?” (Good morning…What is your name?) Searsha and Pan just stood there for a moment. Then Searsha spoke. “Searsha, tu’?” (Searsha, you?) She answered back in Gaelic. “Mors!” And smiled. Panthorca still shy as ever, didn’t say anything, for she was still feeling awkward. “Conas de’arfa’ e’ sin as Gaeileg?” (Do you speak gaelic?) Mors asked her. Pan answered her back , “sea,ta’.” (yes) Mors was growing out of patience and yelled. “Well? Say something? For if you don’t I will call you…I will call you…well…I don’t know, but if you are coming with us, we will need to know your name! So, again I will ask you, but in English this time, what is your name?” She stood there, with her arms crossed and tapped her foot. “Alright, alright, my name is.. Panthorca, but everyone calls me Pan for short.” “See, now that wasn’t that hard now, was it?” asked Mors. “No…it wasn’t.” Panthorca felt her face flush and looked down at the ground. “Um, from what my Daiden has told me, we all have the same birthday!” Searsha tried to break the ice more by getting a conversation going, for if they were to be together for any length of time, they might as well start to know alittle about one another. “Yes!” Mors and Pan both said. “My Daiden gave me this..” Searsha took out her blue velvet box from her bag and opened it. “Oh, how pretty! Here is what mine looks like!” Pan quickly got her out and showed them. “Yours is different than mine!” Mors got hers and opened the lid of the box. “Well ,were given different rings and from the looks of them mine has to deal with the earth, for my band looks like tree branches and its stone has a carved tree on it. While your ring Mos, looks like the nights sky, so it must have to deal with the heavens. Pan, yours looks like the sun and nature, so I’m thinking your ring has to deal with those two elements.” They stood there studying each others rings when Searsha continued. “He also told me, now don’t laugh, but he said that this ring will enhance my power! We ‘re you told that too about your rings?” Pan and Mors slowly looked at each other, not sure what to say, but they knew that they were told exactly the same thing that Searsha’s Father had said. “Um, well my Daiden did say that to me too, said I also a gift! And with this ring, it was suppose to make it more powerful!” Mors looked over at Pan and wondered if she too was told about her ring. “Well, my Daiden didn’t tell me about my ring, infact it was a Professor at my school for the gifted. She was entrusted with it and had given it to me yesterday.” “If we all have powers, lets tell each other what they are, I’ll go first. My power, well, my first power is Telepathy and that I can change time whenever I feel the need too!” Pan stood there. She smiled for she felt very proud of her gifts. “You have two powers? I only have one and that is Telekenisis. I can move things just by looking at them.” Said Searsha. “Well, my power is that of a Seer! I’ve never had experienced it yet, but that is what my Daiden had told me. Say! Why don’t we put our rings on and see what happens?” Mors quickly took hers out and placed it on her finger, along with the other girls. Suddenly a warm, toasty, feeling came upon them and whatever fears they had deep inside of them disappeared. A dream like state set upon them and everything seemed to go into a haze as if a cloud had come down around them. Power surged through them, and a courage that none of them had possessed came flowing in and their powers were felt deep within as if it had now come to life. As their power came to be, the reality of life around them came back slowly. Steading herself, Searsha and the other girls stood there, motionless, waiting to get their composure back. Looking at one another, they were all imbued with their new powers and felt as if no harm could come to them. “A-are you alright Mors?” Searsha asked, for she looked quite mystified and very unsteady on her legs. “Ah, I think so! But, whoa, I don’t know about you, but I feel like I could conquer that, that Anorthic all by myself if I had too!” She strutted around , looking like a very capable soldier on its way to victory. “Good! But do me a favor though will you? Stay with us. W’re suppose to defeat this thing together remember? And yeah, I know what you mean, I’ve never felt so in control before. These rings are amazing!” Panthorca on the other hand stood there , still very quiet and motionless. Mors walked up to her and shook her, hoping that, that would knock her back to reality. “PAN! Snap out of it!” she yelled. “I’AM! No need to shake me like that!” she said rather haughtily. “I was just thinking that’s all and I’ve come to the conclusion that we must not take these rings off ever! I mean, if perhaps we should ever meet with any dangers along the way and our rings are off, we’d be toast.!” Stating matter-of-factly. Both Searsha and Mors agreed. After a small discussion, they agreed ti was time to head off for the Forest of Souls, for it would take them at least 2 days to get there. They wanted to arrive at the next village before night fall, and so with their bags, full of provisions and their rings securely in place on their fingers, they head off towards the village of Ganthican. Ganthican Chapter 5 The day wore on long and hard. Emotionally the girls were skittish, for not really knowing each other and being thrown into a life without a parents guidance to help them along, was quite scary. No one said a word as they drudged along the dirt road. Just up ahead in the distance, Panthorca saw an elderly lady walking towards them. She was small and fragile. As she came closer, her wrinkled face showed her years, but her eyes did not, for they gleamed so brightly. She wore an old, torn, red scarf upon her head and strands of gray hair, poked its way out from the sides. Her dress was not much to be desired, plain and simple, with a frayed hem that had threads hanging loosely from its edges. She carried on her arm a basket full of fruit and breads. The girls forgetting about lunch, had seen what she had, and were now getting very, very, hungry. "Dis dhuit tra’thno’na! An labharann tu’ Gaeilge?” (Good afternoon! Do you speak Gaelic?) Mors asked the old woman. The old woman just smiled and said not a word to them. The girls feeling quite awkward and speechless, didn’t quite know if she had understood what was said to her or not. Just then the old woman pointed to a bush over to the left of them and walked away. Panthorca looked to where she had pointed and made her way through the dense thicket. The other two trailed behind her. They all were curious as to what could be in that bush or what they were suppose to find!. The bush was fairly large, with red plump berries hanging on their branches . Their sweet smell made their mouths water and they began to eat. Happily feasting on them, Panthorca noticed something hidden inside. “Hang on! Look what I’ve found!” She reached in and pulled out a box. It was very ornate with different gem stones upon its lid with the word “SLIABH” (mountain) engraved into the wood. It had no lock on it and so they proceeded to open it. Inside they found a blue amulet. It’s size was that of an apricot and appeared to glow an auror of light. “What is this thing?” Searsha asked. She took it out of its box and all at once a beam of light shot out and cast a dome like haze around them. Within that haze, all around them floating, was a map. It showed them their town of Lordania, as well as the other surrounding villages. It also showed the Forest of Souls and other places of their country. Mors stood up and slowly touched the spot where the Forest of Souls laid floating, and immediately another picture came into view. The Anorthics dwelling place. “Look! There it is! That’s where we need to go. But, how did that old woman know what we were up too? How did she know that we are suppose to fight this thing?” They all looked at each other, puzzling within their own minds. “I don’t know, but she did and she knew that we needed this. You know what this is don’t you? It’s a virtual map. I’ve heard of these, but never really thought they existed, but I guess I was wrong!” said Mors. Searsha placed it back into the box, and with that, the map was gone. “This is one amulet we must keep safely hidden. For if gotten into the wrong hands, like the Anorthic, I’d hate to think what he could do with this. This I do know though. It was meant to help us rid that creature.”said Searsha. After eating their fill of the berries, the girls got back on the road and after a few miles they saw the entrance to the town of Ganthican. Large stone walls were built up around it, as if its were a fortress and a guard blocked the gates, leading into the town. “Ok, whatever you do, do not, I repeat, do not get this guard riled or let them know what are true purpose for being there!” Mors said. She was trying to instill in the girls that by no means was she going to sleep outside, in the cold grass, like a common animal. “Well, what exactly is our true purpose for being here, other than to rest before we head into the Forest of Souls?” Pan rolled her eyes at Mors. She always felt that Mors was alittle extreme at times and Pan wasn’t use to such people as such. “Nothing else….it’s just that I will not sleep outside. Its so…primitive! I need a roof over my head and something soft to lay on. Not an open sky, and wet, cold grass to lay down upon. I’ll catch my death of cold if we do!” She turned around brought her attention back to the guard. “Besides, if we act all nervous and everything that guard will think were up to no good and it’ll ruin everything. Do you want that to happen?” Mors asked of Pan. “Well, no…” Pan replied quietly. Searsha seeing that standing here and arguing wasn’t going to get things done and took it into her own hands. “Let’s just go, shall we? We don’t need to bring anymore attention to ourselves than we have already.” She started to walk towards him. The other two followed closely behind Searsha, as they came and stood right in front of him. His spear thrusted out in front of them, as he stopped them from continuing any further. “Hold there! What means of business do you have here?” He balked at them. Mors finding the courage to show him that they simply wanted to stay and rest spoke up. “Well, if you must know, we’ve come along way and are quite tired. We saw your city and thought we could rest in one of your Inns.” She had hoped that this would satisfy him and looked at the girls for some reassurance. “You may not enter! Only those who reside here may, strangers are forbidden! Leave for you are not welcome!” He looked down at them, for he towered above them and his eyes were glaring. His hostile reply shook the girls, especially Panthorca, but Mors was determine to get in. The guard, a rather large man, with eyes glinting ferociously at them, showed that he was not to be dealt with in any sort of manner. He was arrogant, thin-lipped, with a big nose and a stoney chin. Craggy looking face and simply not very pleasing to the eye. “Look, whatever or whoever you are, we’ve been on the road walking for hours now. We are very tired and our patience is well spent. So, I suggest that if you do not let us in, we will make you!” Mors was defiant and stood her ground well. Pan and Searsha thought she just blew it and pulled her aside. “Ah…will you excuse us a moment, our friend here has had a relapse. Just…pardon her ok?” Searsha was pulling Mors by the arm and grinning at the guard as she spoke. “What are you trying to do? Get us killed? Now we shall sleep outside, especially after that lovely speech you just displayed there. Nice job! Remind me to never vote for you in any election.” Searsha was exasperated and very tired. “Well, I’m sorry, but I’ll be darned if I’m going to sleep outside tonight! What do you propose we do then?” asked Mors. “Watch me and you’ll see! I’m going to get rid of his spear first by using my power and then…I don’t know…but we’ve got to get rid of that first.” Searsha turned around and drew her attention towards his spear. Thinking hard, drawing her power towards it, it started to quiver. The guard looked down at his spear with wonder. Pan kept on and thought harder. Suddenly, it flew out of his hand and into the air, landing in a nearby creek. He then looked at the girls with a vengenance. “I will get you for that!” He started to walk towards the girls, which by then, started to panic. “Mors do something quick!” Searsha bellowed out in fear. “Me? Pan you're the one with 2 powers, you do something!” Then it hit her. “Quick put our rings together!” Mors said hurriedly. The girls looked at her. “Are you nuts? We don’t have time! Look at him…he is 10 times bigger than us put together and you want us to stand here with our rings together?” Pan was not about to get herself killed. “Come on! Something inside of me says to do this!” The girls put their rings together like Mors had said. All at once, a peaceful, calming effect came over them and a power shield appeared, enclosing them inside. The guard seeing this, thought nothing of it and tried to get to them still. As he reached out and touched the glowing shield, he suddenly screamed out in pain and froze, stock still. Mors saw what had happened and motioned the other two girls to see. With that, they brought their hands down and the shield was gone. “Wow! Will you look at that! He is frozen stiff! These rings are amazing! Well, seeing how we are in no more danger, lets go into town and find us a place to sleep!” said Searsha. As they walked past the guard, Mors spoke out loud and with a voice of defiancey, “Fillean mealaran meallaire!” (Evil returns to the evil doer). A smiled laid across her face as they walked on into the town. Chapter 6 “Teehan” Walking through the gates they noticed that the town was empty, and it sort of reminded them of Lordania. The streets were dirty and cluttered with garbage. “Oh gross! How can people live like this? Wait, hang on. The Anorthic, he is doing the same thing to this town as he is doing to ours. It all fits! Look! Empty streets, empty shops and no one is out and about! It’s just like our town! The Anorthic has to be stopped, otherwise all the villages wil no longer exist!” Searsha said. “Come on it’s getting dark and we need to find a place to rest. Look over there!” Pan saw a wooden sign, hanging above the door saying, “Sra’id ceamo’g Inn” (Street square Inn). They walked into a large room with a fireplace at the far end, crackling and snapping with the logs that were inside. A few tables and chairs were out in the center, with a brass candle chandlier hung from the celing, making an orange glow above. A young man, about the same age as the girls, was busy sweeping the floors. He looked up as they approached him and said, “Cad e’ mar ata’tu’?” (Good evening! How are you?) “Maith!” An labharann tu’ be’arla?” (Good! Do you speak English?) Mors asked. He smiled and said; “Yes, I speak fluent English. What can I do for you?” “Well, for starters we would like a room for we’ve been walking all day, and “ Mors was stopped abruptly by Pan, for she had placed her hand over her mouth. Smiling, bashfully at the young man, Pan went on to say how sorry she was for her friends rudeness and if there was a room available may they have it. He smiled back at Pan and said; “Why, of course there is. I’m sure by now, you’ve noticed that our town isn’t too lively!” He walked over to the wooden staircase and led them up the rickety old steps. The wallpaper was falling off and ripped in certain places and the curtains that hung on the window by the landing was old and dingy, not to mention that they too were torn. As the girls ascended the steps, a gloomy feeling came over them and Searsha was the first to notice it. She found it hard to continue following them and her legs felt like spaghetti. He let them into a room…not very big….with 2 double beds and a side table with an old lamp on top of it. The walls were a pale sea foam green and cob webs hung in the corners by the ceiling. “I know this may not be much….but at least you aren’t outside…if you need anything I’m right downstairs! Sleep well ladies.” And closed the door behind him. Mors looked around, her face showed digust. “Will you look at this place, its disgusting! I mean, cobwebs and …and its just filfthy!” “Shhh!” Pan scorned her, “Do you want him to hear you? I would think you would be more appreciative, he could of kicked us out!” She gave Mors a look. “Well, I’m sorry, but I’m not use to this, I didn’t want any of this, it was like just thrown in my face! Daiden didn’t give me a choice I had to to this!” “And you think we didn’t? We all are in the same boat as you, remember? So I suggest we make the best of things.” Mors sat on the bed closest to the door. Bounced alittle and then laid down. “Well, I guess its ok. The bed is comfortable and…” she closed her eyes and was out like a light. Searsha on the other hand had beat Mors to it. She was already fast asleep on the other bed. Pan left the room and descended the staircase and saw that Teehan was still up and cleaning off the tables. She walked over to him and shyly sat down at one of the tables. “What can I do for you?” Teehan asked. Seeing that she seemed distraught, he sat down with her and started a conversation. “I was wondering, if its not too much trouble, if I could have some hot tea please.” She was being shy as usual, but she desparately wanted to talk to someone. “Sure, not a problem. I’ll be right back!” He smiled at her and went into the kitchen. He was only gone for a few minutes when he came back with a tea cup, brimming with hot tea that smelled like spiced apple. “Here you go, I hope you like it! So, something tells me you just didn’t come down here for tea, there’s something else, right?” He sat himself back down and waited for her to begin. Pan sipped her tea. Its warm, sweet taste warmed her and she started to feel alittle more comfortable. She looked up over at him and said; “Yes, there is something I wish to speak to you about, but how did you know?” She said puzzled. “I knew you would be coming and that one of you would need some questions answered.” He sat there as calm as could be, as if, this was nothing strange or odd. “You knew? But how? I mean, I never knew about this until I turned 16! How is it that you expected us? Who told you of our coming?” This scared Pan, for she never met this person, yet he was expecting them! She continued to drink her tea, as she listened to him. “Um, it was written in a book. Here, I’ll show you!” Teehan got up and walked over to the cabinet over by the fireplace and took down an old black leather book, with gold lettering on its cover. The words written on it read; “Fa’nnes” (rings) Teehan walked over to her and set it down on the table. Sitting down he opened it up to its first page. It was written in Gaelic, but Teehan had no problem reading it. As he read, Pan listened attentively for she found this all very interesting. Every word he spoke, bit a core deep within her, as if he were reading about her life. “It is is written that the year of the Gealach-an-abachaidh (Harvest moon) that 3 babies will be born and on that day a cold, darkened, forboding fog will cover the ground and fear, along with depression will over tke the land. Life once teaming with enthusiasm and joy will fade, like that of the sun, never to appear again. A hideous creature, the Anorthic whose only purpose in life is to suck the life out of the towns he seeks, making him grow in power and strength. He’ll take over the Forest of Souls and make it his lair. Then on the 16th year of these births the Seoids of Lordania will be given to them and they will seek out the Anorthic and end his reing, for with their birth, each was given a power.” Teehan stopped and looked at Pan. She had stopped drinking her tea and was staring blankly at him. “Are you alright?” he asked her. “I’m just stunned that all, that in a book our lives, my life, was written and I just heard about it yesterday! Yet you’ve known abouthis for years! “ She looked down at her tea and pushed it aside. “Whats wrong? Have I upset you in anyway?” He noticed that she had pushed her teacup away and was staring at the table. Her eyes didn’t have that glow in them that was there earlier and he sensed a deep sadness. “No, its not you. It’s just that everyone else, those of whom I know and total strangers, know of my life, but me! That’s all. Its’ so unfair!” She folds her hands together and looks up at him. He touches her hand and says; “I’m sorry. I know this must seem like a lot for you to take in, but I thought you should know!” I know you three will be alright. I have this feeling way dep inside me, sort of like a glimmer of hope, that our town will once again be as it was, happy, beautiful and full of life. “Do you really have that much faith in us? Right now I just don’t feel that way. I’m sort of lost and not quite sure of what I should be doing. Well, we all feel that way actually.” She smiled at teehan and her smile let him know that she appreciated his thoughfulness. He loved the way she looked. So innocent and pure. She reminded him of an angel, with her ivory skin and soft eyes. “I don’t even know your name! What is it?” he asked. “Oh! Its Panthorca, but everyone calls me Pan for short. What is your name?” “My name is Teehan, I run this place.” But she noticed that he now had a sad look about him. “Where are your parents?” Pan looked all around the room, but did not see them anywhere. “The Anorthics army captured them and they are now his prisoners. The only reason why I’m still here is because they hid me in the basement in a secret compartment.” I’ll never forget the horrific sounds as I heard them storm into our INN and take them.” He shuddered at the memory, for it was still as fresh as the day it had happened. “I’m so sorry, I had not idea. It must be very hard on you! Is there anything I can do for you?” “Yes, get rid of that creature!” He stood up and walked over to the fireplace. Pan sensing his loss, went over and stood next to him. She was starting to have feelings for him and she wanted desparately to help him out. Teehan looked at Pan and took her hand in his, “Ta’im I ngra’ leat Pan” (I’m in love with you Pan) and bent down and kissed her gently on the lips. Pan didn’t move, nor did she say anything, for she was surprised at what he had said to her. She looked deep into his eyes, and smiled, and said, “ gra’ mo chroi” (Love of my heart) and with that kissed him. Chapter 7 The Return of Ganthica Morning came with its gloominess and depression, but something was different though, Mors noticed it right away as soon as she awoke. She went over to the window and looked out, snow. “Oh, this is just great!” she said sarcastically. “W-Whats great?” yawned Pan “We’ve got snow! None of us have coats or boots to keep us warm. This just keeps getting better and better doesn’t it?” “Did someone say snow? Yippie!!! Oh I love the snow. Its so white and pretty..” but before she could continue Mors cut her off. “AND COLD, need I remind you of that?” she looked at Searsha as if she were mad. “But you have to look at it in a different way. Sure its cold, but it beats how it has been, gray deslote and just really depressing. This way, with the snow and all, at least it covers all that up!” Mors looked at Pan, then back to Searsha. “Are you stark raving mad? Wake up! We have to journey through all this “pretty” snow by foot, freezing as we go, how fun is that may I ask? I’m going downstairs, I can’t stand all this happiness.” And stormed out. “Searsha, Mors is right. I know snow is pretty and it does beat looking at all this gloomy countryside, but we’re going to freeze!!!!!” She busied herself as she continued to talk. “I don’t know where we are going to get coats or boots and the thought scares me, what if we don’t get anything? How are we to continue? We can’t stop now, everyone is counting on us!” “Everyone? How do you know that everyone even knows what we are doing?” She got herself dressed and gave Pan a silly look. “I know this to be true, because last night I went downstairs to get some hot tea. Teehan showed me this book, a book about us!” “You what? A book? Who is Teehan?”This caught her attention and went over to where Pan stood. “Teehan is that boy, downstairs and the book its called “Fainnes” (Rings). It tells of our life, well, not all of it, only the part where it is written about 3 babies who would help rid Lordania of the Anorthic, or something to that effect.” She looked at Searsha for any kind of a response. “There’s a book about us? Why we’re we not told then? How is it that for years, people knew of our coming, but us?” She sat on the edge of the bed, completely stunned. “I don’t know, maybe because if we ever found out, we wouldn’t be here today,we’d probably would have run away, I mean, would you have wanted to do this if you read about this?” I know I wouldn’t have!” “No, I wouldn’t.” Searsha felt tricked, tricked into something she had no say so in. She was hurt and very mad. Meanwhile Mors came bounding back in; “LOOK WHAT I FOUND? COATS!!!! And downstairs are boots, OH! And hats, scarves, mittens…who died?” She saw both Pan and searsha sitting on the far bed with looks of great sadness on their faces. “Oh, hey listen guys, I’m sorry if I upset you, but I’m over that really!” “Oh, do be quiet Mors! “ said Searsha and sighed heavily. “Did you know that there was a book about our coming?” Searsha said as she turned to look at Mors. “A book? What book? What are you talking about?” She placed the coats on the bed. “Come, both of you, follow me downstairs and I’ll show you!” Pan went out of the room and downstairs, the girls followed. Searsha already knowing about it was curious to see it. Mors on the other hand was in wonderment. Panthorca took them to the cabinet and opened its rickety doors. They squeeked as she tried her best to be quiet. Reaching in she pulled out the black leather book and handed it to Mors. “Go ahead, open it!” she nudged Mors. Mors opened the book slowly, noting the pages as she turned each one carefully. They were very old and faded, with the texture of that of an onions skin. It had been 5 to 10 minutes into it when Mors looked at Pan and then Searsha. “We’re in a book, someone knew of us way before we were ever born. Why were we not told of this?” She looked at the both of them for answers. “This is what I’d like to know! I said the same thing as you just did! Why weren’t we told?” Searsha went over to the fireplace for a warm. “The question now isn’t why weren’t we told, the question now is, how are we going to achieve what everyone expects from us? Do you realize what an undertaking this is?” Pan sat herself down on the hearth. Teehan came walking in and spotted Pan and smiled at her. “morning ladies, anyone hungry?” He walked over to Pan and touched her cheek. Searsha took note and singnaled to Mors to have her look also, but without much luck. She kept on trying to get her attention. “What the bloody hell is wrong with you? Whats with the faces? If you’re trying to make me laugh, its’ not working!” and walked away. Searsha in complete embarrassment, plopped her head down on the table. “Oh, did I come at a bad moment?” Teehan sensed the tension between them. “No, its just that Mors and Searsha just found out about the book, so , they are alittle bit in shock.” She stood up and walked over to Mors. “Oh, I see, well, I can understand how you all must feel…” before another word could be said, Mors cut in quick. “Do you now ? Tell me how does it feel? How could you possibly know how we feel? Oh, is it written in that book?” and stormed over to it and started turning the pages, pretending to be looking for such information. “Tell me, is it? We’ve been taken away from our homes and family, having no say so in this matter, we had no bloody choice in!!!” Pan was mortified at her explosive behavior. “Mors stope that! She went over to her and took the book away. “No I won’t, I’m tired of people knowing about us, and that our lives have already been planned out for us. What if I wanted to get married or make something of myself, is that written in that stupid book? If so, I want to know, I want to make sure I”ll be ready for it!” “Stop it!” and shook her senseless. Searsha, sitting there started to cry. “I WANT TO GO HOME!!!” she bellowed. The girls stopped and looked at Searsha and started to laugh. STILL MORE OF CHAPTER 7 COMING>>>>> :D Posted Image :D :D |
