Skyrays; Worth it?

I had an idea for a Tau army themed around a Pirate force (saw this one your boards and wanted to flesh it out. Needless to say the idea of Skyrays seems VERY pirate-ish. They can be used to cripple an enemy from cover in the first turn. Cron's? No problem. two of these bad boys will wipe out whole squads of heavy destroyers and destroyers, forcing them to forgoe their will-be-back saves. Watching players, it seem that most of them have their "favorite" unit. Killing it with a barrage of missiles from a pair of these guys would be just about the most evil thing you can do to their morale.

And then you get two mobile markerlight platforms.

Just a thought.

I also like the idea of Tau Martial Artists, and considering that is not very Tau-ish at all, they would fit into a renegade army well I think.

Thanks!

On the Skyray issue i'll stick to what i said on the "most important unit" thread  :)

I like the idea of Tau martial artists! You could almost have a Tau assasian! [Similiar to the imperial one's]

It can! Pretty crazy huh B) ... I'd use it if it had 12 and could only fire 2 each turn [so it works out as it's ussually a 6 turn game  ] or you could fire 2 a turn and if for some reason you didnt fire other the two last turn, you could fire 4 in your current turn :D

Nope, you's need 4 other marker light's, and even then they'd all have to hit...

not according to what some other people have said, It seems like the whole point of the vehicle is to be able to do a "missiles away" maneuver. Networked markerlights should let you do that, right?

The Networked markrer lights only edge is that it can be fired by a squad/veichle and then the squad/veichle can shoot using it's effects. :D

I just had a thought!!!!!!!!!

What if you include 3 Skyrays! That's 18 missiles and 6 Markerlights to fire them with!

This sound any good?

Would it maybe be better to just get 3 hammerheads using submunitions?

That's a lot of missiles though...

submunitions are low-quality ordinance. That Config you mentiones will rock Crons and Marines by killing 4-6 per turn, no context.

the sky ray is powerful, but you need pathfinders to use it. Trust me, 4 seekers slamming into destroyers first turn is a great sight. Remembver that WBB doesn't apply if the squad is dead :D
Cheers!
