The spiritual significance of Zacchaeus and the Sycomore tree

Luk 19:2 And, behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich.

We are all Zacchaeus, and we must see in ourselves that we are the chief of sinners. We are rich in the goods of the church.

Luk 19:3 And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature.

In the church we are seeking to see Jesus, and we can not because of the many, and because we are the nobodys (little of stature).
1Co 1:26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:

Luk 19:4 And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way.
Sycomore tree is from Strongs 4809 and is from the greek word sukomoraia, which is a Fig tree. The Fig tree is symbolic of Isreal or the (church).

So we climb up (works) into the (church) trying to see Jesus.

Luk 19:5 And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.

We hear the voice of the true shepperd and he says come out of her my people.
Joh 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
Rev 18:4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.
Jesus calls Zecchaeus out of the Sycomore tree, and says, for he must abide at thy house.
We are the house (temple) that Jesus abides in.
Luk 19:6 And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully.

Luk 19:7 And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner.
When we are in the church we can not see ourselves as sinners. We are rich and increased in goods and in need of nothing. So those in the church see Zecchaeus as a sinner and murmur against the one that He has elected to abide in his house.

Luk 19:8 And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.

When Jesus comes into us we see the need for justice and the urgency to make things right. To put away sin.

Luk 19:9 And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham.

When Jesus comes into our house (ye are the temple) the process of salvation begins. It is the day of the Lord.

Luk 19:10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

Jesus seeks us. We only seek him as we are drawn of the Father.
Joh 6:44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

i remember when i was like 8 years old or something hearing the story of zacchaeus at a religious instruction class or something like that and being intrigued, absolutely enthralled.

it's great after all these years to be intrigued yet again

the Word is just so amazing, so unutterably amazing, though i continue trying to say so

whether i'm 8 or 44 or at any other stage God has me at, always the Word is perfect

Psa 119:140 Thy word is very pure: therefore thy servant loveth it.

Psa 119:50 This is my comfort in my affliction: for thy word hath quickened me.

may God continue to bless us richly in all His Word

Psa 12:5 For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise, saith the LORD; I will set him in safety from him that puffeth at him.
Psa 12:6 The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.

God this is an exciting journey at times, even as it is daunting at other times

but to think of the former things passing away quickens my pulse
