Ok…so what we have here is Animated Prowl. Before I review the actual figure, let us take a peek at the info on the back of his box.
Apparently…he’s an Autobot Spy. He did very little spying in the show. He’s a ninja. Not a spy. His motto?
“Through stillness you will find truth.” Well, now he never actually said that, did he? We’ll take your word for it, Hasbro. Again.
And now there’s this. This part actually made me laugh. ‘Galactic Powers and Abilities’.
Galactic? Seriously? That word just made it into nonsense. Well, let’s see what his galactic powers are:
‘Master of Circuit-Su’
‘Projects holograms for use as camouflage’
‘Can use any object as a weapon.’
Well, I guess that last part explains a certain ‘chain’ weapon, but more on that later.
Galactic….what the hell?
Anyway, before I get bored and stop writing, I’ll go onto the vehicle mode.
Prowl transforms into a black-and-gold police motorcycle. And it’s fairly realistic for a cartoon-based deformity. To put it simply, the vehicle mode is really cool. It even has a little cap on the petrol tank. Nice. Good attention to detail there. I like it. And even the handlebars move. It’s looking pretty good. Nice start to the Animated line here. On the front of the bike is a silver Autobot logo. Although, I always thought the silver insignias were purely movie continuity, and the Animated characters had the red or purple, respectively. Oh well, it doesn’t exactly take away from the figure. Another nice little addition is the kickstand, to stop the bike falling over. I can’t make further comment, because I don’t own any other bike-formers. Oh, it would appear I’ve forgotten a key detail. Police lights on the tail. Translucent red and blue plastic. Looks really, really nice. Other than the headlights, which by the way look awesome, there’s nothing else really to this mode, so it’s time to transform him.
This is one thing I don’t like. The legs becoming the wheels. It makes things really difficult, because my figure’s right leg is fairly loose, and comes off a little too easily for my liking. I’m assuming that this is a one-off, and that it’s a minority of Prowls that have loose right legs. Most have loose left ones.
First thing I have to mention about the robot mode. It’s show-accurate, except for some parts being larger than they are in the show. His wrists and back-panel things, to be exact. If anyone here watches the show, I’m sure you can remember Prowl zooming around with the wheels on his knees. The figure can do this too. My collection is primarily made up of movie-verse toys, so I haven’t had much to comment on regarding accuracy. But now I can. And I have only happy things to say.
Apart from this. This is an unhappy thing. My Prowl has a splodge of black paint on his chin! And his mouth isn’t painted, so it’s hard to see. But, other than that, it’s so awesome.
Onto weapons, now. Prowl the Ninja has three weapons. A pair of shurikens, which are disguised as his hubcaps, and a traffic-light on a string. Obviously this is there to show he can use anything as a weapon. So, yeah, if you see any traffic lights with strings, let him know. Because that’s all he can use. I can’t believe the box had an exclamation mark. As thought here was something exciting about hitting Decepticons or human villains with a traffic light.
The colour scheme here is generally the same as in bike mode, but with this ugly off-white colour on his legs and hands. It just looks unclean.
And finally, articulation. Being a ninja, Prowl has to be very articulated. And he is. Even his feet tilt. Brilliant for Awesome Ninja Poses. Or ANP. You’ll find this phrase used a lot in reviews for any Jazz or Prowl figure, or even anyone beyond that, so make sure you learn it.
And just one last note. There is something genuinely brilliant about the way Prowl can gain extra height from his vehicle mode without making it look like he’s gotten trapped partway through his ANP practices. I can’t describe it very well. Just when you finish the final steps of his transformation, his torso rises up higher, and makes him a bit taller.
Onto the rating! I am going to rate his vehicle mode a 10/10 (Who can really fault it?) and his robot mode an 8/10. Minus a point because Hasbro did a bad job on my figure, and minus another point because he relies on stringed traffic lights to get the job done.
