I thought that after the embarressment that is Bailey spouting his blips, farts, whistles and shite all over the good name of electronic music, it was my duty as a synthesist (if not a particularly good one) to at the very least offer up 11 good reasons why not to judge us all on his 11 somewhat pathetic efforts....

1. JEAN MICHELLE JARRE, Oxygene 2

What can I really say, other than the fact that this proves that you don't need a crappy PC program to really dish out proper synth music. What you need, amazingly, is a synth...

2. ELP, Hoedown

A bloody amazing keyboard run from the synthesizer god that is Keith Emerson. It's not long, not too weird and not really that pretentious, just very skillfull, very electronic playing.

3. NEW ORDER, Blue Monday

What 80's music should have sounded like. Beats Bailey on his home ground and has a kick arse video to boot.

4. RADIOHEAD, Idioteque

Modern electronics from the Kid A album, combining jazz, rock and dance into a frantic, buzzing blast of energy. Fantastic stuff from a fantastic album.

5. PINK FLOYD, Any Colour You Like

Nice soloing from Rick Wright on Dark Side of the Moon's least renowned track, complete with a Hendrix-y guitar from Gilmour.

6. TANGERINE DREAM, Cyclone
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kzqg7K87GJU
German pioneers Tangerine Dream in a length, space based wank-fest. Well, at least they have a stack of talent to back it up, and its pretty clever stuff.

7. RANDY GEORGE, Theme of Legend of Zelda Performed on Theremin

Bizzare. Amature. Better than Bailey. Period.

8. KRAFTWERK, The Robots

Not exactly Keith Emerson style, but cold and metallic kraut-rock at what some consider its best.

9. BILL BAILEY, Drum and Bush
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TqDl491ORqM
Legendary stuff from a Bailey with a difference. Hillarious.

10. THE SCREAMERS, 122 Hours of Fear
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eyQZVfQEKcI
Who says Punk can't be played on a Moog? Punk? Yes. Electronic? Yes.

11. MARILLION, Forgotten Sons

Not exactly electronic, but with a great synth line. Irish civil war blended with anti-religious pseudo-prog. Oh yeah....
