no point here until the purim junk is all gone! Serious. A week after purim I will have a cleaning crew come in and I will do the kitchen. From purim on because of my dates no more challah for me anyway. They can wash and have challah in the basement, clean off and come upstairs for the meal.

I start after Chanuka.
Just get all the hometz down onto the lower shelves & take inventory of the pantries - so that we do not end up with tons of chametz b4 Pesah.
(we don't sell chomets)

realgood, you should find out what is the minimum that you MUST do and take care of that 1st. Chumros can wait untill you find strength and/or cleaning help!

Also, there is always a possibility of the baby coming a bit earlier, so you got to factor that in. (ds graced the world with his presence 4 weeks b4 we expected him to!!)

You forgot one other answer. The week/month after last Pesah.

Actually, I'm trying to break the major cleaning down into 6 groups so that I can keep the seasonal cleaning manageable. That way when I do my weekly cleaning I should be able to pick up any chometz the cat and dog bring into the bedroom, etc and not have so many problems.

REMINDER (most importantly to me that is :blush ): Pesach cleaning is removing chometz from your home not dust bunnies and the like.

Reminds me of something an Israeli friend told me: "Dirt is not chometz and your family is not the korban pesach!"

Since we go away for Pesach, my husband is very insistent that I not clean for Pesach at all, except one room that he can check for chometz. I sort of listen to him depending on my mood.

AAACK! You're not supposed to say the P-word till after Purim! (And I thought I was compulsive! Ha!)

Well, one thing I know I keep is Lema'an Tizkor Es Yom Tzeischa Me'Eretz Mitzrayim Kol Yemei Chayecha. I make that my personal banner. Dateline, December 15: "Why are there Cheerios in the bedroom? Don't you know it's almost Pesach?" "No stashing nosherei in your closet, I don't want to have to clean that up for Pesach." "You spilled wheat paste on your shirt. Better wash it now so we don't have to worry about it just before Pesach." :ha

Usually some time in January I start dusting and airing bookshelves, the linen closet, ceiling fans, etc. I make it very clear that i am doing spring cleaning, not Pesach cleaning. These jobs do need to be done once in a while, and doing them at this time gives me a psychological lift. (Those of you who do these chores as they "should" be done, namely quarterly if not monthly-- :tongue )
True Pesach cleaning does not begin till after Purim.

Some time ago I read a great article that outlined a year-round regimen for minimizing Pesach cleaning. One of the really good ideas was to always carry with you a few ziplock plastic bags, and never put anything chometz into a pocket, purse, briefcase or backpack without first double-bagging it. This strategy effectively eliminates the need to decrumb your pockets and bags! I regret I have not yet reached that level of self-discipline and organization. :blush.

This is Vilna Gaon's minhag and dh happends to follow the Gra's minhagim.

The idea behind it is that the sale is a bit fake. Nobody really expects a goy not to sell it back to them. Also, some things sold are sooo......... mmm... unmarketable, that in real business deal nobody would pay a penny for them (like crumbs from your pantry or a half of a cake in the freezer)

Gra also didn't eat chomets that was sold, and dh tries not to as well, so after Pesah we stock up from a specific store (non-Jewish owned, & non-Jewish supplied) so that we have enough untill the sold goods are all sold......

This takes a bit arranging, as we don't have an extra freezer nor do we have too much food - friendly storage space.

It also makes eating out a bit complicated, so we have our friends come to us instead. :)
