Has anyone lived in an apartment without a bathtub, with kids? Is it feasible? My ds is TERRIFIED of showers... he screams if I even use the showerhead to clean up the bathtub...

We very very rarely give our kids baths. Really- they take showers. Zu hops in with dh every morning and now even enjoys taking one by himself and will ask sometimes if dh didn't take one that morning for whatever reason. He just plays at dh's feet and dh soaps him up or gives him a soap ball thinging and he takes care of it. With Tev he is still scared so dh holds him tight when he goes in. If this baby is a boy than they will also as soon as the umbilical stump comes off is in the shower with dh- a girl with me. I think the only time really our bath is used (we have a stand up shower next to the bath tub) is when I prepare for mikvah.

I don't know, he's 18 months... isn't that a bit big for a baby bath?

If he fits in the container, that's all you need. You can try something like those big Rubbermaid or Sterilite plastic storage containers (the big ones meant for things like out-of-season clothes), or a little inflatable wading pool.

he sits in it, you sit next to it, and that should do the trick

It's not possible for me.. my dd hates the shower. I suppose if you start them early enough you can do it... but dd is 3 and does NOT like it. I hated showers until I was in elementary school, so I'm guessing we are doing the bath thing for a while.

We did the shower thing on a trip. It was Aviva's first shower. She was a little scared at first but then she loved it. I held her the whole time and she just had a big smile on her face.

We still give DS a bath in the kitchen sink. He loves it and it's easier than bending over.

Obviously, you have to be super-careful becaue a 1 YO can move around a lot and grab anything that's nearby, and try to climb, so I am extremely vigilant.

We have also taken DS into the shower with us.

If you're afraid of taking the baby into the shower, I recommend using a baby-carrier. I have a pouch made of solerveil, a fabric that is designed specifically to get wet and not stretch. I have taken DS into the shower with me a number of times and he enjoys it. With the pouch, i am less fearful of dropping a slippery baby.
