While looking at Memory Lane (toddler forum) I thought of a tip I got that saved tons of time. I put every toy that could stand it in the washing machine. Duplos and Legos were my favorite because my ex brought tons of them for the kids when he came to visit. Soap, cold water, shortest cycle and no spin. Put them in a laundry basket and out in the yard to dry in the sun. Also small plastic action figures and such. The place for everything else was the tub. Riding toys were done by them with the garden hose and gone over by me. I'll try to think of other super fast ideas. I was alone when they were small and didn't have spare time on my hands for wasting. |

why do u need to wash them??? I just go through them to make sure there isn't any food on them. But it's a great idea for spring cleaning! |

when i had less toys and more time, i would wipe each with a clorox wipe and soak in cold water overnight to get out the bleach. my friend who sold discovery toys told me that is what she did after each show. now, i sorted them and checked for dirt. most never come in contact with food. the only ones that did are a few of my dd's that got thrown in the washing machine and the plastics will get washed by hand. it's snowing here too!!! |

yeah, most of the toys don't come into contact with food- thats why I can do the clorox thing. I don't let food into the basement. |

For me it was the sheer amt. We had a HUGE box of small legos, a box of duplo and tons of small people, animals, cars, etc. As a working single parent of 4 I didn't have tons of time. Also in my day there was no such thing as clorox wipes, they must have been invented for Pesach. Too bad I've never seen them here. I don't have a basement so the kids play throughout the house. |

No snow here, even on the mountain. Yesterday Israel has been hit by a mini hurricane. The weather has been awful and its freezing and raining. I'm heating in the house. This is very unusual in Israel this time of year. |

yeah, the weather is NUTS in Israel right now- heck, all over! The clorox wipes are maybe 2 or 3 years old. We have duplos (when legos come you better believe I am going to use your suggestion!) but those are not allowed anywhere where food is! After last year having to clean them all out. AHHH! My one demand when we were looking at houses was that it had to have a finished basement that I could turn into a playroom. We only keep a small box of toys on the first floor and another in their room. |
