Hi Girls, I need to tell this - you don't have to read it, but I need to tell this.... I have a mil, yes, we agreed upon that, right? And mil has a birthday - only once a year, but never mind - which is mostly forgotten by all of the family and she complaines about it... to whom? Her sweet daughter in law... you guess who that is.... This birthday is a bit tricky because it is Erev Pessach, so everybody is busy with anything but birthdaypresents but me.... on the regular calendar date I got a nice cake from the bakery and we went to her, sang happy birthday and wished mazal tov and a good time till 120 which is another good 40 years, so you guessed it, it was number 80! Now, a week or so before Pessach is the Hebrew calender birthday and I had the idea that I would knitt her a vest. So I ordered yarn which came in a week to late, started knitting, finished the first part and than it happened.... a huge black line in the cloth... omg... in the spinning factory they obviously oiled the machine while spinning this ball and I discovered that only when I was done with the back and nackline... :doh! I thought to myself "no problem, that will go out in the washing machine" ... I washed it 4 times and the black line is still visible! So today I tried to give it to the dry-cleaners but all the dry cleaners refused to take on more work! I felt like screaming and crying in the same time :tantrum :tantrum went home and was ready to give up, had a nice little row on the phone with dh about it and than decided to give it another try. I went down to the little drugstore around the corner (which is usually not sooo good) and asked him for something that would remove oily staines and he referred me to one of the tried, tested but not trusted Israeli products.... and than the miracle happened... I stood infront of the cleaning soaps and there it was... my bloved, tried and trusted GALLSEIFE from Germany....... aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa housewife dancing in the isles... German Quality yeah, Posted Image I ran home, applied it, put the half done sweater into the machine and now it will hopefully be clean, I can finish it and surprise mil tonight with a birthday present..... |

I hope your mil appreciates what an an incredible dil she has in you. Can you get hold of a spot-cleaning solvent, maybe from the dry-cleaners? Ordinarily I wouldn't recommend such chemicals, but this is an unusual circumstance. You would need also plenty of nice absorbent rags to draw the grease and solvent out of the yarn, and make sure to wear gloves and work in fresh open air away from flames and hot surfaces. I hereby nominate RivkaS as DIL of the Year! |

I am honored :blush but I will not try the chemicals by myself, I just called dh and asked him if he could ask in the hotel dry cleaning facillity if they would accept to do it. If it is not exactly on her birthday any day before Pessach will be fine, so that she can weare it on Pessach and does not have to wait for Lag Ba Omer and than it will be anyhow to warm.... |

I still consider finding that soap a real blessing but the sweater for mil is still not clean and the hotel-cleaner said she is afraid of cleaning it since they do only linnens and that on very high temperature... *sigh* so my supplier heard that story today and said she would compensate me for the damage, but what do I tell mil? Probably "weare it for the first time on Pessach, so as to be able to use it and than I will take it to the dry cleaners after Pessach" ... what a surprise :( |
