thanks for all your encouragement. last night i felt as if from 9-12 i was nursing non stop. but i think it was b/c of poor latch and stress from my 2 yr ool. if it is painful it is only at the beginning. and thena fter a feeding. lipsticked means that the nipple comes out after af eeding looking like the top of a lipstick. |

realgood- mine always came out that way. I was told it was just how my nipple was. Also he could be cluster feeding. My boys always did that at night. They would just nurse and nurse and nurse. Its pretty normal from what I was told at some point during the evening for them to cluster feed. |

Zun, you took the words out of my mouth. I had a baby who would nurse nightly from 10 pm--2 am STRAIGHT. I had no idea about cluster feeding, but I called a LC and she told me it was totally normal |

I remember with Zu calling a LC crying thinking something was wrong! Thats when I learned to lay down and nurse... made those cluster feedings so much easier to deal with! |

Yup, those later part of the evenings were cluster feeds. I'd feel as if every time I put the baby down, he wanted to nurse again. Also, sometimes the baby wants comfort and nursing is the only comfort he knows. Try putting the baby in a sling, and walk around (when you wear a sling, it's good to keep moving), to soothe the baby down. Also, if you feel ready for it, you can try nursing IN the sling, so this way you can learn to nurse and do other things at the same time, without feeling so tied down. I remember the first time I nursed while grocery-shopping (walking around the store, not sitting on a bench) while wearing my son in the sling. it felt so good to be able to do something else while nursing! |
