If I am not mistaken, that is pshat in the gemara (that a nursing woman's breast is not erva). I believe that where Ashkenazi and Sephardi poskim differ is that Ashkenazim say that means only for her own husband saying devarim shebekedusha and Sephardim saying that it applies to all. (and yes, I know there are those who say that a husband can't say devarim shebekedusha in front of their nursing wife). |

Neither would I (though I have in front of other women - like my mom and MIL, I am not as careful with the shirt...in my own house!). In general, I don't do the blanket thing, but i am very careful about being covered when i NIP. |

Guarana613: I didn't think you were saying this in regard to yourself. I just was replying to your statement with another one that I heard. I wish I remembered where I heard or saw it, but I don't. At home I also don't cover up completely. Interesting about not being erva- so if it applies, and for those who follow this view, can a woman's husband see her nurse uncovered while she is Nida? Probably not, I'd assume. |

I was thinking the same thing. Not really "allergies" anymore! But it's definitely taken an interesting turn. Update on my friend: she is nursing far more now than before. She will not give the baby 2 formula bottles in a row and tries for only one a day in the middle of the night so her husband can do it. On top of that, she will try pumping again during the day to see if THAT can be the bottle he receives at night. We'll see! I've always stood that I support her no matter what she does. She was telling me that her husband really wants her to stop nursing altogether. I don't really want to go off on him, but supportive, he's not. The baby is still throwing up on zantac and will go to the dr. tomorrow. We'll see! As far as BF in public, depending on what public means, I will do it. Public meaning at a friends house... I've even done it once at a restaurant when we were seated in the corner away from others. I also get more descrete as I become better at it. In the beginning I barely covered because it was easier that way, but I stayed in my daughters room. Once I was a pro no one knew I was doing it. Barbie |

Yaakov threw up a ton on the zantac, but on the prevacid he is barely spitting up at all, which is amazing. My Ped GI said that zantac doesn't really work at all on the severe cases. Tell her she should also find out about giving the baby maalox/mylanta in addition to the Prevacid, when the baby is really screaming. Oh- and they sell head incliners for babies for the crib and those really help. As far as NIP- I will nurse in front of my close friends, if I am very covered up. I nurse in front of my husband when not in niddah, and always in front of my daughter, but again- I try and stay as covered as possible. |

thanks, Design.. I gave my friend the info. She's been using the incline for his crib, but he is still sleeping in a carseat sitting up more. I'll see how tomorrow's dr's appointment goes. Kinda bummed that she can't go and has to send her husband, but I hope the dr. gets all the info he needs and can help the baby! |

My baby was spitting up on Zantac, and they increased the dose. He still always spit up, but less than without it. |

Funny. My soon to be 14 year-old and 12 year-old boys are totally unphased. Probably b/c they can hardly remember a time I wasn't nursing. |

Barbie, that's great that your friend is giving it another shot and trying to give the baby more breastmilk. Kol Hakavod (kudos) for her efforts. As you said, you won't rant about the husband's lack of support, but it stinks and doesn't help the situation! As for NIPing, I agree with you Barbie, that as I got more experienced, I was more comfortable with NIP. When you're dealing with your first, and still a newborn, you're still learning the ropes and need to pay attention to the latch, etc, you still need privacy. Like you, once we were both experienced, I had no problem nursing at a bench in the mall, in the pizza store, a bus, etc. Somtimes the best way to NIp is to turn a chair to face a wall. People may not even realize what you're doing. |

I can bet that this was not a full quote. Way too many times have I seen ppl take quotes out of context to prove thier opinon. Divorce is not treated lightly by the Jewish law!! I'm pretty sure that it was about a woman who goes ahead and bares her brests regardless of where she is. Not about a woman who needs to nurse and, lets say, the blanket fell off b/c of strong wind. Would you file a divorce if Dh's kippa fell off in the wind? Or if Dh went out of the house in a t-shirt? Gemara itself reccomends babies be nursed till 3 (or 4?) and weak ones till 5! Guarana613,
I don't think it's an encouragement to nurse in public. I think it's more along the lines of others not giving any looks to a woman whose child is hungry. Posted Image After all, when they're hungry, they don't hide in a bathroom stall with their snack, do they?
So let HIM look away!!!!! :mad Some husbands need to go through preg. & nursing in order to get it. I want to see him being locked in his room nursing every 2 hrs for at least 30 minutes. I'm taking bets on how long you think a man would last. (Sorry, it turned into a vent........ thank you 4 listening) |

same here. My kids (though, much younger) tell me that I better nurse that baby when she asks! We once were at a bris, and when a baby cried my kids couldn't figure out why the mother won't nurse the baby! It's the most natural thing in our house. T-shirts w/ button shirts do the trick. |
