Maybe Chavamom would know.
How many % of 2 year olds are still nursing?

I told my mother that out of those kids who nursed past 2-3 months, about 7%-10% are still nursing by 2 years. She thinks it's more like 0.0000001%

(Again, disregarding the mothers that never nursed or stopped by 2-3 months.)

Who's right?

I don't think there are any studies done on past 2 years. But according to this link, the CDC study says in the USA 5.7% of babies are still getting some breastmilk at 18 mos old. And that is of ALL babies. Interesting that there is not so much of a drop from 12 mos. to 18 mos as there is from hospital discharge to 6 mos. You might be closer to correct than your mother!

It's hard to tell from that. It would be interesting to actually see numbers for 24 months. t's very hard to extrapolate from the data.

Sure it's hard to extrapolate, but 5.7% is a lot closer to 7 -10% (and she specifically said 'those who nursed past 2 -3 mos', not of all babies) than 0.0000001%

Found this which is just more an interesting bit, but not scientific.

That's true. But, I suspect that the numbers drop down very sharply at that point.

See my second link. From those women polled, it doesn't appear so.

Yes, but the poll is so unrepresentative, that it is meaningless, in my opinion.

Not really. Do you think that only moms who nurse for a long time voted? It doesn't represent all of US, but a fraction of all types of people, which I assume is pretty accurate. Wouldn't use it as info for a study, but the general idea is right.
