use a tiny dot of toothpaste and if they swallow that it is no big deal.

i try to get a turn in after they brush themselves but it doesn't always happen.

let him watch you do it! Two year olds think spitting is fun, My son loves brushing his teeth.....sometimes he wants to do it 10 times a day! Just make sure you have toddler toothpaste! :P

I brush my 13MO son's teeth - no toothpase. I usually do it when he's in the bath, as it's easiest then.

When i brush my teeth i give my son his toothbrush to brush and he brushes with me. Yes he also sucks on it as well, but as the toothpaste on it is minute it doesn't make a difference. I give him the adults one because there is no flouride in the water here and i prefer to give him it through the toothpaste than have the dentist giving him flouride drops.
I also give his teeth a once over myself just to get to the places he can't really do and he doesn't mind so much.
Oh and when he does it with me he likes to spit in the sink too and wash his toothbrush with water and use it with the water on it. I would deff get an electric one for him, but only when he is a bit older.

Most dentists agree that you don't need toothpaste to clean teeth, just water and two minutes of brushing.
