Well, the tests were done and the results are in and we had the consult yesterday. Blood tests are normal, hormone levels are good. Ultrasound is fine. The bone density scan however showed something interesting. While D1 is 14 and 10 months, the density scan showed her to be a 13 year old. So somehow, her gynocological maturity is almost 2 years behind. She's a late bloomer. The dr. wasn't concerned and said to come back in 6 months. I spoke with D1 and explained what it meant. I also gave her advanced warning that it might be that her sister, younger by just one year, might hit puberty before she does. And if she has any problems with that, or any other questions or concerns, she should come to me. |

I was a late bloomer in the normal range. A girl gets self conscious when everybody is talking and everybody got it and you are still waiting. Getting a period, wearing a bra in some circles turns into a competition. |

Thats wonderful news that everything is okay. How is she taking knowing her sister could hit puberty first? I wonder how common it is though when the kids are close in age. |

My girls have been wearing 'bras' for a couple years now. I decided that it wasn't worth fighting over a $3.00 piece of material. When we go to the States, we get them. When I was there a couple weeks ago, I got them new ones. A whole big 34A and 32A.... They think it's the best. Same was over shaving their legs. Do they need it? Nope. Was it worth saying no every time they begged me for it? Nope. And they also wear deodorant... which is a good habit to get into, even if you don't need it... As to how is she taking the fact that her sister could hit puberty first? I think she's praying that she gets it first. And we'll never know how she'll take it until the time comes. |

There are a number of differing opinions as to why this is happening in our generation, (better nutrition, more hormones in our cow's milk, etc) but nonetheless, the result is that nowadays many kids are hitting puberty at a younger age than used to be 'normal' - I have heard of 9YO girls with a period. Due to this, it is harder on a kid who, like your daughter, is a late-bloomer. It's good that you took her to the doc. It seems like everything is pretty normal, and she just may require a bit more time for these things to happen. Good that you're adresses these issues now, and making her aware that her younger sister may 'get ahead' of her. |

got mine at 12 and wished i didn't get it till i was 15. It is such a hassle. And i remember in my class the girls weren't the most mature and it was a thing to see if you wore a bra by dragging your finger along someone's back...a bit retarded really, but i was so self concious. As you get older you start appreciating your assets, i remember wanting a flat chest as well. |
