I am NOT having a good day. First, someone picked up Noam from school before I got there (she told me she couldn't pick him up tomorrow and I thought she was talking about today) and he was at home sitting in an empty house. And then I came home and found 4 baseball sized holes in the drywall in my older boys' room. Which I'm sure WEREN'T caused by ds, the starting pitcher on the HS baseball team pitching balls at the wall - or so I'm sure he'll attest. Sarcasm there folks, in case you missed it. Yes, he has been caught doing just that and has been asked to stop. Doesn't mean he won't deny vociferously having anything to do with it. WHY oh WHY are teenagers so BRAINDAMAGED? One hole is an accident, FOUR is just stupidity. I'm really trying to calm down and just tell him he has to come up with a plan for getting it fixed. What would you do? |

I know this one so well! We even chose the type of house w/annoying concrete walls instead of dry wall because we were warned that 6 boys wouls wreck the joint in a week. I have 1 kid who I used to get notes from school, Deae Parent, please send 50 sh to fix the hole in the wall..." They are not 100% brain damaged and may be trying to push a button. Sometimes they deny davka because they realize how stupid they were after the fact, thats when they deny the loudest. I would have him fix the walls, drywall is mamash not a big deal to fix. Anyway, :hugs you're gonna be in this stage for a LONG time. |

Oh, you are having a day. It's amazing, my teenage kids seemed to have a lot more common sense 3-4 years ago than they do now. Now, back to that debate on whether or not to send kids away to school...... ;) That option is starting to look more and more appealing. |

Dh and I joke about this almost daily. "Ah, NOW I understand why most of the neighbors send their boys to dorm..." |

We don't have the same kid, do we? We have gotten several phone calls this year about assessing damages at school that we will have to pay to have fixed. They sell drywall patch kits at Target. I guess it will be a learning experience for him. I'd like there to be a "knas" too though - like "I'm sorry, I can't take you to x b/c I had to take time out today to go buy a drywall patch kit and now I"m making up the cleaning time I missed". |

I don't have a teen but I am student teaching them in a high school. It's always interesting to hear things from the perspective of the parents. I like what I am reading here in that you are all taking responsibility for your children AND making them take responsibility too! It's amazing how many parents are in denial here at our secular campus. Oh - and :hugs for those of you having rough days! |

I would make him pay for the patch kit as well or work it off pre-pesach helping out or turning the kitchen back over afterwards. Heck, even babysitting the next so many days so you can work in peace or chol hamoed get a nice nap. |

All I can say is that I was a teenager once (and by once I mean a few years ago ;) ) - though I never caused too much trouble. I save my trouble making for this forum :D |

My husband has informed me that boys between the ages of 14-18 turn stupid. There's no explanation for it except puberty. Chavamom, here's a little something for you :D: Posted Image |

Your dh may be more accurate than he knows. Did I mention that I just read a book about teens and brain development called "Yes, Your Teen is Crazy"? Basic premise is that next time you think to yourself "are all teens brain damaged" the answer is YES. It has to do with brain growth, neuron pruning and the fact that connectionss between areas of the brain - such as btwn. those that control emotion and those that control logic - aren't developed yet. Scary but relieving at the same time. |

Somehow knowing why it happens doesn't comfort me. Only knowing the last has started and the light at the end of the tunnel makes me feel better. Mine are in it from @11 1/2 until 20 and I had one who started at 17 and gave me concentrated madness until he got married. He married the same thing in girl and the 2 of them are amazingingly teen-dense even though they are both 22. |
