We had our CPSE meeting today and she qualifies for PT. (whew!!) They were more than reluctant to give it to her over the summer until they realized she is starting K in the fall. Then THEY added to my anxiety that she won't be able to get on/off a bus, she'll need a separate evacuation plan for fire drills... But even though they made me anxious, it's OK bc I feel confortable that she'll get the help she needs so one day she won't need it anymore...

The PT eval person also said that it is all (most likely.. ) related to her hip dysplasia from birth. It's a relief to me that it is only physical and not psychological, or sensory related. Not that I was thrilled signing a paper that says she's a child with a disability, but at least now she'll get the help she needs to have fun with her friends.

Me too. I'm terrified for her if something happens and she can't help herself.

mazal tov! It's hard to have to sign that your kid has a dissability, but thank g-d it's something she is able to get help with and IS getting all the possible therapy to overcome it, that itself is a major accomplishment as well! give yourself a pat on the back! :clap :hugs

thanks. It wasn't easy convicing the committee about needing Summer PT, but I guess something clicked with them when they realized she will not be physically prepared for K without it. I can't believe I cried in front of strangers. I never do that.

I'll have to take her to an office bc she needs the gym facilities. I wish we could start today but I have to wait until the meeting on 5/29 and then she'll start after that.

Hooray - very happy for you!!!

This is so important to get help on time! We saw great improvement in Gabriel as well, and it wouldn't have happened without his great threapists. He still is going at least until 3, and then they'll evaluate and let us know what he needs and what can we do.

Very glad Hailey got PT and hopefully that will help her and get her ready for school!

I call this the "mama-bear" phenomenon. The things we do that are sometimes out-of-character to protect and care for our children at any cost. Mama-bears are very protective, y'know.

Mazal tov on successfully getting her the help she needs. May the therapy help her overcome her challenges and go into kindergarten full speed ahead!!
