On Sunday I have a big meeting w/all of the soc svc people to decide whether the govt will pay for my nephews rehabilitave yeshiva, where he gets help in learning skills and counseling. Collel Chabad just okayed him 4 hours a week of big brother to help him spiritually. The place is prohibitively expensive and the govt pays at least 75% of all of the kids because they are not there if they don't need it. We recently found that there is precedent for illegal immigrants like him.

The bigger news is that my Rachmiel has honored us by agreeing to go to a yeshiva. They very understand my prob and are dead set on taking him if he acts like a ben adam at all because its easier to convince him to switch than getting him in in the 1st place. It is also very likely that my 12 yr old will run to school when he realizes he will be the only one at home. Even his spoiled little highness may agree to go to a place in a moshav in the Galil, sleeping in tzimmers and the country's major streams, parks and hiking trails (not to mention Rabi Shimon) within walking distance.

I would like all of your combined 'Think good, it will be good' on Sunday.

Thanx everybody.

The meeting with soc svcs went great, B"H.

The visit to the yeshiva was put off until Wed. (all delays for the good?) In the meanwhile he is making a royal deal about having to go in a white shirt. Unfortunately he is being encouraged by the chevre and even some disgusting adults.

Encouraged to what?... When I just saw one of "these" kids strolling down the street today I so thought about you...

Gee, do we have the same kid? My son refuses to be a "penguin" ("I'm not going to be a hypocrite. Plenty of people that look so frum are doing all kinds of things! What color shirt you wear has nothing to do with what's on the inside....") And he is egged on by his chevre here.

Can it be expressed as a uniform that he only has to wear in school? My DS's school does not require white shirts and 90% of the kids wear it voluntarily (you can't wear any shirt, it does have to be button down and white, blue, grey, or a white - blue, white - grey stripe). But DS only wants white.

DH told him its like being in the army. They already said he can wear his hat and jacket only for davening and he can wear cotton pants and not suit pants. The white shirt is the only thing they stand on. The prob is many of his friends are going to yeshivas where you can wear nearly anything you want. He is not interested in those yeshivas, he just doesn't want someone telling him what to do. In his last TT he also made a big deal about having a white shirt for special days, which the other kids have no prob with.

What he is being encouraged in is that right now there is a faction within the yishuv, part of a larger faction in Yesha, who are not happy that Lubavitch does not have the traditional Charedi attitudes towards yishuvim. Just as their kids influence mine, we influence theirs. They have made life really hard for Lubavitchers in a few of the yishuvim. This group do all they can to encourage boy/girl socializing and keeping our kids out of L schools.

What can I say? I hope for you that it turns out to your liking and for the good of the kids.
